I was kind of speedreading and might have got something wrong, but by the end of his route Towa can't sustain his body and turns into dark goop(the same demons in Lkyt are made of and apparently all the people in their country have it in their bodies to some degree) with an eye just so that he can finish his business and leave a message for Takeru. It's kind of sad since it says that by the time message reaches him Towa will be dead and he tells his brother not to look for him.

-It's a sort of mixed strategy/dating sim/slave trainer text game, meant to be an otome AU for Touken Ranbu (though you can certainly use it for BL.) The strategy game part is some Risk-type thing, not very interesting since it's very barebones. The meat of the game is indulging your fantasies with the swords. The ero content is nukige-hard, though almost entirely selectable. There's no story to speak of.
-If you've played eraQueen you will find the ero part quite familiar, with three important additions: there's a lot of SOL romance stuff, the POV is switchable (you can get topped and even reverse-trained), and you can engage in debauchery with as many as 8 characters at once. Another big change is that the characters' stats level up automatically, you don't have to grind points and manage them. Mostly you just increase your relationship with the characters and have fun.
-This requires a pretty decent level in Japanese, probably more than eraQueen. If you're struggling in Japanese you might wanna pass on this text game.

Quick guide/tutorial:

-You have a bunch of scenarios to pick from. If you want to try the strategy game just pick 1 or 2. If you just wanna try out the romance and lewd then pick 20 (starts with all swords in the citadel) or 21 (starts with NO swords, but you can go forge the ones you want.)

-Let's go with Scenario 20 since it's the easiest (no strategy game, all swords.) You can make a custom MC or pick one of the premade characters: three saniwa or any of the 79 swords. Anesaniwa (99) is a pretty safe choice. Pick whatever on the next prompt, then you're asked to pick the master of the citadel. Normally you'd pick the saniwa but you can also pick any of the swords (in that case your MC is treated like a regular officer, though that makes more sense if you made yourself a custom MC who is a swordgirl or something.)

-You should be on the citadel map now. Make an initial save. Click config (take a look at the config options while you're at it, in case you want to turn some content off) and then click help for the in-game manual.
Try clicking around the map for the various actions. In particular, the officers' quarters in the upper left has the "meet an officer" button. Focus on dating one or two swords at first. If you see an option to select a cook/secretary/etc on the map, pick it, this opens up more actions at that location. Some options are only available at night.

Various tips:
- Kogitsune and Jiji have the most unique dialog (colored text) I'm pretty sure, the vast majority of swords don't have unique dialog yet sadly.
-You start with little or no money initially but you get some at the end of every day, don't worry about it. The first location on the map leads to the general store. Useful basic items are booze, rope, condom, lotion (guys don't generally get wet) and any toy that catches your fancy. Developing new items often allows you to develop even more in that branch.
-Try to not be too pushy initially when dating, but once they like you a bit you can get very bold. Alternatively, you can give them the initiative and even let them pick the options they like, if you want to be a useless otome protagonist who just goes with the flow.
-Each action has 4 flavors depending on who's the target and who has the initiative: you do something to the character, the character does something to you, you order the character to do something to you, the character orders you to do something to him. Of course, ordering people around and toying with them makes you (or them) more dominant and being ordered around and toyed with makes you (or them) more submissive. Characters will try to take the initiative based on their personality.
-The various SOL interactions on the map are more effective at raising relationship than just meeting the characters initially, but you don't get to pick who you meet in those. You have all the time in the world in scenarios 20 and 21, either way.
-If you went with scenario 21, you have no swordboys at the start, but you have the materials to craft one. Check the bottom location in the garden, first option is the smith (forge yourself a strong sword), second option is a minigame to acquire more crafting materials by grinding, you gacha addict.

More advanced tips:
-Once a sword starts to like you, you can usually invite them outside on a date. This gives you more rounds of action (I guess because you have a pretext to spend more time with them.) Try to always do this so you have the time to raise the mood and make a move at the end. Also the locations often have unique interactions available, such as bathing.
-If you interact normally, you'll naturally end up developing a loving relationship with the character by default, your advances will succeed or they will make a move on you themselves and then you're boyfriend/girlfriend. It's the easy and vanilla way of winning over a character. There are other ways though: you can give them the initiative, make them addicted to you and keep rejecting their advances until they snap and assault you, which leads to the doS route with the character as your "master" (you can have several of course). You can take the initiative and train captured officers (captured either through battle or inside the citadel, if you have a rope) which leads to the doM route with the character as your slave. These requires a bit more patience and grinding than the love option, make sure the relevant relationship stat is going up, and DON'T confess or accept their confessions or advances until you're safely on that route. Check the in-game manual.
-Booze is very useful. It usually puts them in a good mood, lowers their inhibitions, and if you have a ton of money and bought strong booze you can even try to make them pass out (don't forget to rope them up so they don't run away if they wake up.)
-If you put too much stress on captured characters they might get traumatized and then irreversibly mindbroken, which prevents further relationship progression. Characters who aren't tied up or locked up will generally decide by themselves to leave when they get too angry/sad/etc so it's not a concern for them.
-Once you've gone regular with one or more swords you'll start to see an option to directly call them to your room at night on the map. If you're summoning a lot of characters at once make sure they don't get jealous/angry at being ignored early on. Kissing them is generally a reliable morale-booster. And yes, of course they can play with each others.
-You can eventually get married (to a single sword) and go to your honeymoon mansion retreat with them (purchasable, expensive). You can also friendzone swords you don't wanna fuck with the peach garden sake thing.
-Once they have some experience you can adjust their fetishes and preferences, so they reliably pick specific actions in auto mode, if that's your thing. Or you can just keep deciding what happens.
-Often, a character might not know a specific ero command. Giving the initiative to a more debauched character (typically MC) will allow them to order the character to perform that action, after that they will remember it. If all the characters are too innocent you might need to go on a date in town, go shopping, and buy some erohon for the characters to study. There's also an item in the general store that raises ero knowledge from 4 to 5. Knowledge can also increase naturally, esp at low levels. Some particularly pure characters start at 0 knowledge (mainly some tantou.)
-Another reason a command might not be available is that a body part/orifice is already occupied. Cancel any ongoing commands and see if that helps.
-In the strategy game, swords can get captured and even broken (you can change this in the config.)

Well it's a change from the Hetalia version I've spent an embarrassing amount of time with at least.
The Hetalia one actually has a lot of dialog even though the series itself is peak early 10s cringe. Even for really weird shit I've come across playing around, like turning a character into a girl with a potion and taking 'her' virginity has a special dialogue option for some characters.

Well, if you are expecting a transformative experience that completely upends your expectations of BL novels, then it's going to disappoint.

If you go in expecting two great routes and take-what-you-get for the rest, then it might be fine. At the end of the day it's still a romance story. In the main and second routes it takes it's time to tell the story it wants to tell instead of rushing to the sex, which is much appreciated. It just didn't leave much time for the rest of the routes to say what they needed to (though, in retrospect, the last route was intentionally abrupt and jarring).

There is also a ton of growth for the MC so people bitching about how annoying he is missed the fucking point.

I enjoyed eraQueenA and HetaliaA quite a bit too because of the dialog porn, I especially liked making various anime guys as custom slaves in Queen with all their little verbal tics and such. But once you've made them lewd it just devolves into ahe noises. It's certainly more than two, and most characters work as a secondary characters, they just don't work as routes/love interest. There is nothing particularly wrong with Hanzawa as a villain outside of his route and Naoshi and co make pretty good supporting characters. It's also a very personal story, so the smaller more intimate cast makes sense.
I don't think that's unique to Hashihime for what matters, it's a problem a lot of VN have but it's more visible in Hashihime because the first route is the longest and has pretty much all plot points, while most VN save all the best content for the very last route.

I did pick it up because I was getting back into the hobby after about a 7 year break and it seemed interesting (Taisho era clothing is a huge weakness of mine). I didn't know what to expect, but I'd played all of N+C's games and a few others like Silver Chaos and AkaAka. I know how shitty VNs can get so I go in with low expectations.

For a VN, the main route is extremely well done. and while I was disappointed in the shallowness of Hakase's and Hanazawa's routes, I'm fine with the trade-off they got shafted by. I feel like VNs too often need to sacrifice story quality to make meeting & fucking 5+ different guys possible. Adelta chose to tell two compelling stories regardless of what it did to the rest of the routes, and I can respect that decision. Hakase got robbed but I can live with it.

The main route really is something special. I don't like romance as a genre and only read BL VNs to get my dude-on-dude fix that other types of stories don't deliver on. But Hashishime made me a believer in True Love.

I don't think that's the case. I can read moon so there are plenty of other games I could be playing, but I liked Hashihime a lot. I'm big on its particular flavor and story involvement in early 1900s mystery and surrealist fiction, which is some of my favorite shit. I also don't think the presence of the weaker routes takes away from the enjoyment of the main one.

Nothing much I think. I don't remember the conditions for triggering reverse training but the sword having low dom characteristics and being submissive should prevent that.
The general expectation for M characters is that you'll either date them normally or make them slaves (buy a rope and you'll get an option to "drug them" rather than pushing them down/seducing them at the end of a date, might not be available in all locations so the best way is to go out on a date and then return home, you should end up in their room if they like you a bit. After you do that once you should see a nightcrawling option too in the officers' quarters. and once they're submissive enough you can try to brand them, or "make them swear loyalty" as it's called. After that you can treat them however you like, the slave traits ensures they gain submission naturally.)

Nah, angry/sad will clear up eventually (talk to them to let them blow off steam, or serve them some alcohol to raise the mood.) And if they're permanently mindbroken you can still mess with them (I think more easily, in fact.)
That said, if you have negative favor with a character it makes everything much harder so try not get them to -1000 favor or something.

If your knowledge is below 5 (or you have turned off some content in the settings) you can't perform a lot of the most hardcore commands. Also some require tools to be developed at the store, which takes some time.
But yes it lacks many commands eraQueen or other games had. I think public exposure is the most notable one. I will port them over eventually but adding complex commands is a real pain.

I think it's pretty good for an otome game. Probably my favorite, outside of the Tokimemo games, considering I bought it once on PC and another time on the Vita. Well, I've finished Nie no Machi.

The art style itself is cute, but the anatomy was pretty bad. It was painfully "just okay" story and writingwise, all of the routes had problems, some more serious than others. The routes that I found most interesting to read were Koko's and Naruomi's. The bad endings did deliver, as promised, my favorites being Mio's and Naruomi's because they were the nastiest. I never would've imagined that out of all the boys Naruomi (Mio not included on account of being a literal monster) would end up being the one doing the eating. The sex scenes were fine aside from them being pulled out of nowhere at times, I didn't care for them very much except for in the bad ends. I can't rank the boys very well because I like them all for very different reasons, but, ignoring the actual contents of the routes, I think I like Asuku the best. I was always happiest to see him when I was going around doing the other routes.

I think Hisora was a fun protagonist. He was oblivious in a cute way, and though he was stubborn and hotheaded sometimes, he was always ready to jump into action instead of standing at the sidelines. He was extremely virgin-y and naive, but he wasn't a prude and was also perfectly fine with the idea of having sex with men. It wasn't like "Oh no, we can't do this, we're both men" or anything like that. Big points for having a deep voice, too.

On the note of actual voice work, I enjoyed Irakusa doing Mio's everyday silly voice, but thought he was too hammy during the serious parts. I thought Hisora and Naruomi's VAs also did a nice job, massive points to Hisora's for sounding very natural and being good at moaning cutely. Akari was actually disgusting, but I liked how hammy he was. I also really, really liked Sata's voice. It was really calming. I don't remember seeing his VA listed anywhere, does anyone know who he is?

Went to look it up right now and man that is a deep voice, from the way people described him here I expected him to sound much younger and shriller.
This kind of gap is good, too.

Cleared Oni no Kamen—has a lot of the plot developments you’d expect to see from this circle’s other games, feels a bit short. I’m not sure if I’d recommend it if you’re not into the circle’s usual “exploitative older villainous man x unlucky younger girl”, but the cute romance scenes are very nice while they last and the creepier scenes with Kurokou get very kimoi (despite being R-15). Kurokou himself has a lot of gap moe to him: normally quiet and serious, but is very self-conscious about his age and loves junk food. I love the way this circle draws a character’s more warped expressions, really adds a lot to the experience when you see a CG of the protagonist in absolute despair or a CG of the main guy making an absolutely lewd face while going on about how cute the MC’s tearstained face is. This game has no absence of CGs like that. I wish the game had H scenes, some of those scenes were too lewd to just leave it as being R-15. Highly appreciated the shower scene with Kurokou and all of the creepy faces he makes throughout the game. I didn't self-insert, but I sympathized with Shimeji who is a cute and honest girl who just got stuck in a shitty situation. Overall, enjoyed it for the suspense and cute scenes but I wish it were longer.

The author likes to write a good chunk of her serious games like this: cute, romantic slice of life scenes with hints that something is off turning point where shit goes down, everything starts to go downhill ends with a bittersweet/merry bad end. You come to expect these types of developments after reading their games for a while, but how the author does it hits the exact spot for me. It’s the mix of cute, fluffy elements and gradually escalating darker shit that really pushes the feeling of “why did this have to happen?” onto the reader, culminating in an ending with an unpleasant aftertaste. Also, I enjoy how the guys are drawn: a slightly feminine face with a toned body. The one major point of criticism I have about this circle is that some of their games feel too short and you start to want to see more of the characters interacting.

The most recent game I cleared from the circle, Kokuzai wo Ukerubeki Mono, left a large impression on me, so maybe I just got my hopes too high for a game as short as this one after reading something that good. Kokuzai isn’t very /blog/, but it has a delinquent female protagonist who’s explicitly not a good person, lots of female-oriented rape scenes, and lots of cool old people characters. While it's through and through an utsuge, the ending is refreshing in a bittersweet way (unlike Majo, which mostly left me feeling some mixture of frustration and despair). It’s a very unorthodox and flawed work that I can wholeheartedly recommend for people willing to stomach lots of depressing shit and how clumsy some of the plot developments feel. Out of all the games I’ve played from them so far, this is probably my favorite and something you can feel the author poured their soul into.
