done with the yukinojou games. I picked them up because I like elf and I like boxing, but they frankly dont have much to do with either.

theyre basically bog-standard renaige with everything youd expect such games to contain (a group of "friends", school "events", retardedly contrived drama, etc.).

their most remarkable attribute are probably each games main heroines. neither is extraordinary, theyre just entertaining and somewhat more elaborate renditions of the genki and the kuudere archetype respectively (extraordinary characters wouldnt be out of place as teenage school girls in a grounded setting anyway).

the games felt quite tedious because of their extremely repetitive nature caused by the "immersive" hour-by-hour, day-to-day structure. I must have wasted hours of my life reading about the second games protagonist late wake-ups and breakfasts.

do I recommend these games? not really. but if youre backlog is somehow empty and you feel nostalgic for games of the early 00s, knock yourselves out. stick to the routes of the main heroines in each game though. theres also an epilogue to the second game which youll unlock after clearing everything, maybe theres a savegame on sagaoz for that. also, you cant play the second game without the first, because the second one (haphazardly) integrates a fandisk of the first game into the plot of the second games major routes.

What happens to Shiki in the other routes? Are we supposed to assume she somehow regains her memory on her own and somehow musters the courage to return to the past and save everyone? Because if Shiki doesn't return, everyone on the island would just stop existing. But wasn't the whole point of her route that she needed Hairi's support to muster the strength to actually become an oni and save everyone?

Also what happened in the end? I'd be fine with Shiki being either alive or dead, but the ending was really vague on what happened to her. Did she get spirited away a 3rd time at the same time Hairi returned to the present and she's just waiting to come out of limbo so she can meet him again?

Houkago cinderella is fun so far.

Sometimes I wonder. Could writers just try. Like a little? So it's not 1000% removed from what is actually possible? Do people not get annoyed by this? The ENTIRE drama is ruined just by setting it up in such a completely impossible and lazy way. It's a situation so impossible to exist, how the fuck can you even possibly care? I know especially moege have issues like that, but come on. A LITTLE common sense please? If the entire setup is already pulled out of the deepest reaches of the ass, what do you expect from people reading this shit thinking about it?

Ranting aside, this game is hilariously predictable. You can literally FEEL the checklist. They need to rework the checklist though. It's a common trope in moege to do this kind of drama, but usually it's at least set up in a somewhat more believable way, though that tends to not help in the end. It's a trope that never made a game better.
In other words: This is trash. You can try playing a drinking game. Take a shot whenever some super cliché happens that you can guess a little before the "reveal". Good luck.

So, I finished LovexHolic in preparation for MamaxHolic coming out next (this) month. It's pretty good, but it's not great. It drops the ball on side heroine endings, the idea of heroines getting two routes with different personalities sounds great but in practice there really isn't much difference between the routes and the routes themselves (and the common) are very short and very basic. This is to be expected in a nukige of course, so it's not a demerit, but it stops the game from really standing out in terms of quality. When I finished it I just thought 'that was a pretty good fap, glad I didn't waste my time' and not 'FUCK ME was that a good game' like I did with Aku no Onna Kanbu, Demonion 2, Homestay 1 and other stand out nukige. Hopefully the sequel fixes some of the mistakes of its predecessor but honestly I'm not expecting it to considering the studio, I'm just expecting another pretty good fap.

Now to play something that instead of being just interested like MamaxHolic I was genuinely excited for, Princess Heart Link.
