So I was looking through some fan made games, and I seen tons of Flash games. Why are there so many flash games? If all these people used something other than the bottom-of-the-barrel program, we'd have more Super Marisa Worlds and Megamaris.

Creating flash games is easy, so you will see a ton of bad ones. There are probably good ones too, but the people who don't put effort into game design aren't going to try to learn how to make real games.

Flash is better because the file size is significantly lower. I'd much rather play a 2 MB game than a 200 MB game.

Flash gets a bad rep in the same reason other highly popular things do. Flash isn't "bad"; it's just that 99% of the people who use it are underage b&, and therefore suck. I've seen some things in Flash that no other game making device can emulate.
