The problem with reading Japanese is that you can't just "improve".

To improve in Japanese you need Heisig's RTK to learn the Chinese "alphabet" and then you need the Japanese "alphabet" to be able to read the Kana. And to top this all off you need to know the reading of the Kanji.
This whole thing is unique to Japanese compared to for example French.

For example if you learn French you can already start reading from day one because you already are able to read everything. Japanese requires additional years just to be able to read as good as you can on day one with French.

But after you have finished the Japanese "alphabet" hell (aka two years or more are gone) Japanese is really straight forward. Learn more words, learn more grammar, and then you are basically done.

Overall the reason why 99 % of people quit Japanese is because they try to skip Kanji or want an "easy" way. There is no easy way. Even Heisig's way is hard af and most people will hate it because Heisig more or less used a learning method which has ZERO to do with Japanese (is the fastest way for English speakers). But most beginners want as fast into Japanese as possible that they forget that the fastest way to start with "real" Japanese (without Heisig's sex stories) is also the fastest way to become a dekinai.

I tried to use not so long ago one app to talk with Japanese people while also sharing them my knowledge of my native language, but sincerely, it went pretty bad, my main objective was to make friends and if there was a possibility, to find a gf(low priority since i will be at least for the next 4 years minimum in my country) so anyway long story short, all I ended up finding were people that either weren't interested in talking, or could only follow up plain conversations, I was always the one carrying the themes of conversation, and most of the time I was either used as a tourist guide telling them good places in my country, it was baka kinda helpful because there was a few times where some tried to correct me a few things that I wrote wrong, but that's it, and dudes literally don't say shit to you, and for women like 70-60% of them didn't say shit, and a good amount of them ended the conversation with "wow your Japanese is pretty good, yoroshiku" At some point I couldn't make it to continue pulling the convers all the time, i was a literal bot repeating the same shit in almost every conver

So I recently came back to learning and using Anki and am currently trying to find the "perfect" deck for me and would like some help picking one. I've tried using RTK and liked it because of the stories it had and the order the kanji had but it doesn't have sound/pronunciation help, then tried Tae Kim 2k/6k and liked the way it gives you both the vocabulary and the use of the word in sentences but it doesn't have any kind of backstory or help aside of that, I also tried using VN Core and thought it was great to learn useful everyday kanji but it doesn't go anywhere beyond that. So I'd like to ask if there's any deck that's like RTK (has backstory and orders the kanji from starting from the easiest to hardest) but with sound and/or use of the kanji in sentences?

Hey guys, I'm a long time lurker and mid intermediate learner. At the beginning of the pandemic I got into Animal Crossing New Horizons, and decided to use it as a Japanese learning tool. It's a simple game with little consequence, cute dialogue, and a wide variety of vocab. Due to my own success with it I decided to start streaming it on Twitch with the intent of helping other japanese learners. My intentions are to focus on vocab acquisition with only occasional notes on grammar. More of a casual and interactive practice than a formal lesson format. My original goal was to begin a stream tonight, however, the capture card required for streaming switch was supposed to arrive a few days ago, but has been delayed until further notice. Deliveries in my area have been seeing a lot of delays lately.

In the meantime I will still be streaming in Japanese from my pc library. I chose the horror game Yomawari: Night Alone for tonight. try learning new kanji in vocab context, you can stick with the mnemonic approach and eventually itll become 2nd nature
