Reading through Rita's route in Maoten, bumpy but enjoyable ride so far. I love how the other heroines and side characters aren't instantly disappear when you enter her route, and actually helping when they're not in comedic scenes. Rita herself is also cute, her confession is kind of out of nowhere (she and MC trapped in the school because there's storm, after both of them reminiscing about their past and how she keeps getting both of them into trouble, then she's just asking him if he likes her out of nowhere, then she's telling him that she loves him since they were just kids), but it feels natural considering her long friendship with MC. She's still having banters with MC and hanging out with her own friends after the confession, but occasionally teases and acts lovey dovey like pic related when alone with MC.
Two things that I don't like though: First, the mood roller coaster is getting worse that Rita gets shot in one scene and then comedic scene on the next day as MC running naked to her house to check if she's okay. I mean, fine, healing magic and stuff, but can't I have something like a few minutes of heartwarming scene like, Rita convincing MC that she's okay before highlighting the fact that he's naked? . And second, the route generously dropping hints that both MC and Rita will get separated at one point near the end of her route, like the fact that MC and her are technically not dating despite confessing that they like each other because all the plot related stuff that happened to MC, a short scene where her (future?)self reminiscing her everyday life with MC and think how she think it'll last forever, etc. Why childhood friend heroines that already loves MC from the start frequently gets into shit like this in her own route? Is it that hard to have childhood friend's route drama that doesn't involve separation/breakup?

Ginharu IS pretty boring. I love winter settings and Yuzuki, but the rest is just too slow and boring. To me every new ToneWork's game gets worse. Ginharu had potential but I just didn't care about most heroines. Very disappointing how they got turned into cows that looked worse after every stage. Going slow is fine when the time frame is tight, not when it's over 5-10 years. They should've at least started during middle school when they looked the best.

The problem is that most VNs don't have that big of a cast, which hinders characters to shine. If you haven't tried them yet:

-Maple Colors is probably the most School Rumble esque VN
-Stuff like Tsuyokiss. The heroine that got added later on, Sunao, would be the candidate. Though due to being added later, she isn't actually benefiting much from the overall cast.
-Pic related is a nice love hate relationship tsundere where the character is genuinely great. Loving hate sex included. No big cast though.

Just finished parfait, and I can't say it's better than chocolat in every way. Chocolat's bgm is better for example. Parfait's just wasn't up to the task on important scenes.

It is greedy since it's a gacha but it's not that bad. You can roll entire characters instead of just pieces at about the same rate as SSRs in other gachas, it's just the pool is so bloated you're super unlikely to get anyone specific unless its a rate up. The real appeal of the game is the character fanservice, which is fantastic.

Yea I see what you mean. The prologue, certain scenes from the common route, the scenes I mentioned in Asuka's route, as well as the last parts of Rikako's route really "come together" in an exciting way. I can see that he is really good is that. And yea his humor is good and it helps a lot with that effect.
I was being slightly inaccurate when I said I hadn't read anything else by Maruto. I actually did read the first two vols of Saekano recently. And almost all of it felt like a slog/weird drama but the mall scene with Megumi in vol 2 had that really "exciting" effect that feels somewhat particular to his style.
So maybe I just have to get over myself and read more from him for those good parts. Perhaps I'll try damekoi sometime. Anyway thanks for talking with me anon.

I think the affection system is also tied to the endings. For example with Akao I could get the normal bad ending without enough training but if I spent every day of the last chapter having sex and increasing the affection I got the grand bad ending where every girl is captured and raped. But I didn't really care enough to explore how the game works because the map events are random and all stats are invisible so I just did the good endings and then put a complete save to see the missed H scenes. And then looking at the CGs I realized that I missed special non-H events that I can't replay.
