Not to mention the tactical advantage. He blends in with his surroundings, and can set up an ambush. Combat in touhou seems geared towards attracting attention to yourself.

The hitbox is only small because touhou bullets move so slow. The touhou has plenty of time to respond. Grazing is when a touhou contorts her body so these slow moving bullets don't hit. Hell, master chief could probably graze danmaku to a limited extent.

What's more, master chief could probably take about ten hits from regular danmaku without even depleting his shield.
