It's very well known that the US gets bent over and fucked in the ass by internet companies. The most recent article I read in the New York Times said we pay the same price Japan does for speeds that are over 15 times slower. The best example of how we get raped is that the newest technology being installed actually decreases the cost to less than half for service providers and they're going to raise prices to $150 a month. So a service that saves them money will see an increase of over 3 times the cost for service that will still be 10 times slower than other developed countries.

The primary problem in the US market is lack of competition. In my town of 80,000 people we have either comcast or qwest. Either I get raped in the ass with one or raped in the ass by the other. The best thing we could all do is create our own ISPs to compete by lowering our prices and increasing our speeds over the competition.
