Yes, of course, this is what the human village actually believes. They need to have some sense of safety and normality as they go about, tending to their little plots, having their little squabbles, drinking their little tea, living their little ordinary lives.

Of course, they sleep peacefully at night only because rough miko stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

There hasn't been much of a discussion about it. Seems if the lack of canon goes beyond a certain limit, it actually slows fanon from developing.

Personally I tend to think the Hakurei miko are either foundlings or raised communally by the human village, since the last miko is hardly in any shape to be a mother after a life hunting youkai.

You mean a Game of Thrones/ASoIaF. You don't give the title of a war in the backstory of a work of fiction as reference to the work itself. Not unless you're a dick.

>Big brute characters tend to be rather dumb in fiction, but this isn't the case with touhou oni.
It's not the case with any oni I can name. Oni are actually the source of "ogre magi," for example. "Trickster" is a more common portrayal than anything. In terms of tropes, they may be the Mighty Glacier (more like Lightning Bruiser), but that doesn't make them Dumb Muscle.

Okay, being a bit more elaborate about the reasons for not being a fit mother...

As they grow older, Hakurei miko lose their humanity by the day, being overwhelmed by the youkai they have killed. This culminates in them losing sight of themselves completely and transforming into an amalgamation of different youkai - since they are not a natural youkai breed, most become either mindless, or at best a shadow of their former selves.

Before this happens, the current miko gets her hands on an appropriate male to produce a female heir, who is then raised by the father's family (under unspeakable coersion). The daughter is instructed in the traditional shintou rituals, after which she is sent to live at the shrine as she comes of age. At this point she faces her first trial - surviving and disposing of her mother, is she is still alive.

Most former Hakurei miko are killed off this way, although one particularly nasty one remains sealed away under the shrine itself. Ancient Hakurei miko couldn't kill her, and the current most certainly can't.
What her name was in life is unknown, but in the present she's known as Konngara.

It is this that caused me to draw parallels between Reimu and Robert.
Robert was drunk with the blood of war, and waged campaigns just for the sheer joy of stoving in his opponents' heads with his warhammer.
Reimu terrorizes the youkai and makes such examples out of those that antagonize her that dare not cross her again, and she entertains herself by going out into the forest and hunting them down.

I actually haven't given it a lot of work recently, but that is because I was agonizing over a small story regarding the first Lunar-Earth war.

It gives us a very good snapshot of what the tech was like back then.
Basically, we follow one of the Lunar Assault Gunships as it heads to the human LZ, where the Marines are busily setting up a beachhead and pushing back the local Bunny garrisons.
Our gunship, a heavily armed close air support vehicle/troop transport, has been tasked with dropping a squad of bunnygirls and a Lunarian commando in to help aid the garrison in their defense.

We get to see some Lunarian weaponry, the tactics that the Lunarians use against Earthlings, and so forth.

Also, a tidbit that I'd been discussing with Anonymous, on the strange shape of Lunarian rabbit-ears.

>It's so that their heads can fit into the helmets they use. They allow each bunny to communicate with her squad-mates from afar, receive information from her commander, view her vital statistics and those of her squadmates, and a map of her surrounding terrain, among other things.

>The helmets of Bunny pilots also maintain a connection between her vessel and her brain, enhancing her piloting ability and assisting the weaker rabbit-brain in computational navigations, systems checks, and damage assessments.
