I was really looking forward to go for Shizune. I enjoyed the whole Risk scene because, damn it, I like that competitive feeling it gave.

Surely the rest of her route will paint her in a better light, and I know what it is to be that obnoxious class council president type, but that was too much for me.

Shizune is mai waifu. She's obviously got a kind heart lurking beneath that harsh exterior (remember the part where she got you and Misha sodas?), but she needs to be tough because somebody has to enforce the rules, dammit. The Risk scene made me :3, but the scene at the tea shop where she challenges you, and then hands you those notes clinched it for me. Gotta love a strong woman with fire and passion.

I went in already deciding I liked Hanako the most. That was until I met Rin, whose ending I enjoyed the most. Biggest gripe as far as the others go was reading the Shizune/Hisao/Misha interactions was a bit of a chore. I assume they were going for a "lets simulate what talking to a deaf girl through proxy would really be like" feel, but at times it was tricky to follow and came out more annoying than interesting.

Also, is there any reason why Shizune has so much more time dedicated to her than the others? Her "route" definitely felt the longest.

And I think it's the presentation as well. Even though the art is not flawless, it's well above other examples on the non-japanese VN market. Which raises the quality expected. Instead of giving them more slack, people come down harder as they expect more quality from it.

Emi: Eh. Will likely always remain my least favourite heroine for no particular reason.

Lilly: As with Emi, there's not much I can say about Lilly. She's the blind girl of the cast and there isn't much else past that in my mind. It also seems like she has the most to hide, which, in turn, makes her seem unintentionally deceitful.

Shizune: Her personality seems to have changed quite a bit since I last fallowed any sort of character synopsis. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Either way, I'll keep to my original plan of doing her route first when the full version is released.

Hanako: To be honest, I've always felt a certain level of bitterness for this character, if it's at all possible to feel that sort of way about a fictional person. I felt, in the past, that she bodied both the "too moe" and aggravatingly shy character traits (which really isn't a good combination). At the very least, I'm pleasantly surprised to find out that this isn't the case.

Was chatting to a bro earlier this evening about it and basically said what people have said already, VNs in general have way too much excessive verbiage and poor timing, its a product of not having a proper editor cutting things to streamline it.

Callimachus' "keep your muse slender" seems to be quite pertinent in the case of visual novel writing I've found. Theres no shame in cutting and refining things. In the case of VNs I think the language has to be quite simply, especially with analogies and similes, the descriptive elements of the prose should attempt to fill in the gaps for what the art can't as succintly as possible, it doesn't need to describe what you can already see effectively.
