I imagine dealing with the technical aspects is one of the biggest hurdles in these projects. I don't know much about it, unfortunately, but SayoOshi is a VisualArts game, and the updated version that you can buy as a download runs on SiglusEngine. That's the same as Angel Beats, Summer Pockets, and the various Toneworks games, so if you tried asking people from Alka or Tsurezure they might be able to help you.

Yeah because their japanese is fucking shit and they didn't realize just how bad it was and they decided to pick a title that was either too complex or too long for them to take the time to properly do and learn from.

But the more you do the more you learn and the better you get at it. If anyone going to get into fan-translating here's some advice. Your first release is probably going to suck. Quite a bit actually. So pick something small and simple so that you can always go back and redo the translation to a better quality once you've gotten better through all this practice. Once you get started on your second fan-translated title, again pick something small and simple. Once you finish and release it, compare the feedback from it to your first fan-translations and if you haven't gotten notably better you should stop translating and work on your fundamentals. If it has gotten better, do a slightly longer or slightly more complex title.

If you're looking for a nukige series to start translating I'd recommend the Prisoner Of Tentacle Hell series. The titles are extremely short and are very simple tentacle fodder but they do have a small handful of complex lines or references which should help sharpen you up a bit. Not to mention the developer has published the sister series on mangagamer, so if you do a good job with your translation you could potentially sell them to Mangagamer which can enable you to flex to an official translator position.

>>25154930
As some other anon implied, it makes for good writing practice and it's not too mentally taxing (or at least not as mentally taxing as writing in itself tends to be). As for why SayoOshi out of all works, mostly because it'd translate well; I'd never wish upon my most hated foes the hellish task of translating shit like SakuUta or Muramasa, but there are certain works that while read you can picture being written in another language and this one in particular didn't seem so annoying as to not even contemplate, or toy with said idea.

Quit your bitching you giant baby, someone fucking up a 45 minute title with a terrible translation who then realizes they have no business translating is not a problem. The only people who know for sure that they can translate something are people who are so heads and shoulders above the common japanese speaker that their proficiency is clear as day. Or the people who try to translate something and realize they do actually know enough or that they don't know enough.

There's also the complexity of the title itself. Something like nekopara, pretty fucking easy due to it using extremely common words for the most part. Translating something like Subahibi, much harder due to the vocabulary not commonly used in any form of modern media or day to day life. Now that Japanese developers are going hands on with personally publishing titles themselves you should expect to see a large drop in 'official' translation quality to the point that fan-translators and official translators are pretty much the same thing in the eye of the public.

I got maybe a few hundred words into the Anki beginner deck and eventually got to a point where nothing was sticking anymore and I'd been clicking again on the same 3 or 4 dozen words for a month. The drive to learn more almost completely evaporated after a while. Most of the native material I could find was too far above my level to learn from. I'm not too surprised since we just got updates, but I guess MG didn't announce their secret projects during the weekend Otakon was supposed to happen. The next convention related time is mid-November for Anime NYC though I personally think MG will reveal their announcements sooner. As for when, who knows? Probably at the same week one of their more important titles goes on preorder. If they correlate the announcement period to one of their titles, my guess would be Musicus or Rance 01. There's stuff there, which is why I continue keeping up with translations, but it's not enough to justify the work (and there isn't any other Japanese media I care about either). Part of it, I think, is reading certain games that I was looking forward to quite a bit, and them not being as good as I was expecting them to be (e.g. Dies Irae and Subahibi). They weren't bad of course, but in hindsight my expectations were too high due to the games being overhyped -- and hype is one of the few things you can look to to see which games are supposedly worthwhile. I guess it caused me to reevaluate my expectations and look at the situation more realistically. If I'd learned Japanese to read one of those games I would be very unhappy about it. Or maybe I'd try to justify it to myself by pretending they were masterpieces, lol.

Nukitashi is basically a comedic parody of nukige that's riddled with Japanese pop culture references to start off with. As you go further along in the story, it starts playing things a bit more seriously, and essentially switches to an odd balance of action-comedy, where it switches rapidfire between silly gags and moments it plays dead serious (I think an analogy would be something like Gintama, maybe). It's a very, very popular game that won a lot of awards in Japan.

The one thing it ISN'T is a nukige.

The translation is guaranteed to be a disaster. Early on we're talking a pop culture reference or typical nukige scenario joke at least once every ten lines, although it does calm down a bit later. It's a brutally hard translation in the best of circumstances. With the guy who gave us 'douzo lad' at the helm, it's going to be an absolute shitshow. I'm so excited, it's a day 1 buy for me just to experience how bad it is.

Sona-nyl isn't exactly a literally-who liar-soft game, though. It's rated 80 on EGS and has a decent number of ratings. It's not as popular as Kusarahime, Forest or Inganock in Japan, but still, keep in mind that popularity in Japan won't matter for translated VNs. Like, The lesbo ghost game sells waaaaaay more than the other liar-soft VNs here, but that's not the case in Japan. I think momentum is the big thing and that isn't going to carry over in translations. Kusarahime or Forest had their popularity and got their momentum in Japan and became household names. Different translated titles become household names based on a different momentum. Is there any real reason to think Kusarahime would sell respectably if translated and Sona-nyl wouldn't, just cus the former is more household in Japan?

That said, I think Rance 01/02 bundle's going to release before it, unless the post beta debug is unreasonably long for 02.

>>25184632
Honestly, Sona-nyl is more likely to do well in the West than Kusarihime, mostly because otomefags are starved for content, and Sona-nyl at least has some appeal for that audience. I do agree that there isn't that strong of a correlation between what's popular in Japan and what's popular overseas. Sure, Alicesoft, Muv Luv, and Key titles are popular enough in both markets, but Subahibi undersold here (with the assistance of a Kickstarter) and I'm pretty sure Nekopara is way more popular in the West than in Japan. Japan and the West are ultimately different markets.

Anyways. Can we discuss something?

Did Edens Ritter fail? The numbers are extremely abyssmal and the game had barely any marketing for itself. Also it was only offered on Steam which already meant disaster, despite it not being censored.

Well it is listed in this weeks updates and also features in this weeks OP picture.

I barely pay attention to the "other" section since it's usually filled with kusoge and I don't think I've paid attention to the OP image since like 2015.

It is censored though and that's why I didn't buy it. Which is why I'm hoping they decide to contact a publisher to handle a proper western release of it.

Anti-MosaicCHAD reporting in?

>> No.25288155

>>25288065
yes? No? I mean it's a pretty big fucking deal when a title that is 75% porn has mosaics and that it's a known fact that the artist for said title does extremely good work on genitals due to his/her previous titles being released uncensored by a different publisher. It's not like ShiraVN's previous titles where only 10-15% of it is adult content so mosaics being there isn't a big deal because the porn isn't the entire point of the title, which the same cannot be said for Eden's Ritter because it's literally all about the porn.

No, not even for free. Touching games don't need translation (JSK is an exception), and there much better untranslated touching games than these.
Female protag games are trash (these are not an exception), doubly so if there's cuckshit involved.
I haven't seen the remaining one, but it looks like it isn't worth $6 anyway. If in doubt, pirate first, then see if you feel like it's worth paying anything for.

Probably. That translator dropped the nevereverest Fortune Arterial just before starting this, so it's an almost guaranteed neverever. I mean, even more of a neverever than fanTL projects usually are, but the news is still news.

Might give it a look later then (I was wondering if it had spoilers or something). Do you have any intention of doing the game itself?

It is a possibility. Though I promise nothing, as I'm not sure I'll have the time. Besides, someone would need to hack the game for a patch to be released, and it doesn't look promising.
