Prove that they do not at least possess some Sue-ish traits.

>> No.2513492

>>2513333
lrn2logic. Burden of proof is on you to tell us how they're Mary Sues.

>> No.2513528 [DELETED]

A Mary Sue is a fan created or manipulated character implanted into a fan work.

For the most part they're representations of a Fanfiction author.

So even without the traits of being perfect and such. THEY CANT BE MARY SUES BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT FAN CREATED CHARACTERS.

>> No.2513533

>>2513528
So what would be the term you use to describe a character who has all the traits of a Mary Sue other than being fan-created (such as Nia from Gurren Lagann)?

>> No.2513536

>>2513528
To be fair, Mary Sues aren't necessarily all fan creations. The main points are that they're a)authorial stand-ins and b)basically perfect. Just look at The Sword of Truth, main character is pretty much a textbook example.

>>2513333
Fail less.

>> No.2513544

>>2513536
You're forgetting the most important point (or possibly the second most important, after being a self-insert), which is that the story revolves completely around them. This is much more important than being perfect.

Which is why you can't make this claim of very many characters in route-based VNs. Arc isn't even THERE in 60% of the game.

>> No.2513550 [DELETED]

>>2513492

Irrelevant. The question is exactly how we are misusing the term.

>>2513533

These are called Canon Sues.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CanonSue

I think you'll find both characters fit the standard quite nicely.

>> No.2513573

>>2513550
>>However, if the character that appears is very obviously an Author Stand In (especially to such a degree that the character's back-story and the author's biography are practically interchangeable), believes in everything the creator believes, does everything the creator does (or wants to do) and is absolutely correct and perfect in both, is over-idealized and perfect to a fault, and/or (most importantly and required) seems as though the story exists only to further this one specific character (most often to the detriment of any other characters present, who simply cannot measure up to the author's clear favourite)

She's not even in 3 of the routes of the game, I don't see how she fits the requirement.

>> No.2513575

>>2513550
...If they fit that term then why not USE that term?

And at that, The question isn't your misuse of the term at all.

It's that you have not provided a basis for your claims. At all.

Give us something here, Arcueid is too pretty or something.

Anything.

I always forget that Easy Modo keeps an archive of deleted posts.

I'm the guy who posted 2513528, I suddenly realized after posting it that it's not really a word I have any claim to or control over, so my argument didn't make much sense or have any real solid ground to be defended on.

Your argument would be correct when speaking of the original meaning.

>> No.2513670

Right, but language is only as useful as the people using it.

If the majority thinks a word means something, there's really not much basis for me to tell them otherwise.
Not to say I think the Majority thinks that, but I can't be assed to go out and poll the internet on their opinions for the subject.
