How am I supposed to know this, I only click on ads out of pity when I know the owner really needs it. 4chan gets a couple clicks a day, but I prefer my browsing to be clean.

She certainly needs more than what she has right now. I don't think anyone clicks adsense on their own volition, and she only gets limited attention in digg. Plus, we are anonymous after all. Nobody clicks ads anymore...
Which brings me to this. One must market to the correct demographic. The digg crowd are more technology oriented and not so much on the weeaboo, which would be the most interested population on real news from japan as she markets the blog.
There are two large publishing opportunities in the weeaboo market. And I hate myself for saying this. Sankaku Complex and Danny Choo.
The sort of users that stumble through it are bound to click some flashy ads if it caters their interests. Which means some banners with actual artwork instead of text ads.

Another would be a donation model. A tip jar. Every $10 collected, she uploads a new video from that very day. It rewards the users and impulses them to donate, without feeling like blackmailing or pity donation.

It's hard to capitalize internet attention, that's for sure. Really hope she does fine.

I haven't chimed in on this yet, but this is the only time I shall comment on this and I don't know why.
Saw her wallpaper on /w/. Followed her site. She posted a video diary entry two months ago that she removed immediately where she was talking about how she wants to inspire otakus to become leaders of society. She talks about how 2chan is a hopeless cesspool and how she believes 4chan has *something* special in its userbase. Then she starts talking about how she has fallen in love with the USA and how its breaking her heart that she can't afford to stay there. She got all teary eyed and the video ended abruptly. I saved it the moment she posted it on youtube knowing she'd regret ever putting it up.
Call her what you will but she's not something we've ever seen before. And thatis all I shall say about that.

I'm afraid I'll have to disagree on that. At least the original thread didn't feel that way, with her appearing well over 12 hours after it started. It just doesn't fit the profile of the profiteering camwhore. Also, lack of any service at all, which in the end is what defines a camwhore. Use of body appeal and a webcam for attention/other purposes.

We could assume viral marketing to some degree, but it would be accompanied of more blatant evidence. So, what's more convoluted: an expanding viral marketing campaign with a completely random pattern, or anonymous latching into the flavor of the day.

Well, I was asleep when the last half of the thread was in progress, but it felt kind of forced in a way. I feel as though that bit was a little arrange to make us more sympathetic (With the 4chanish things like ending the sentences with desu. I didn't see that happen before.), but she's fine as is. I like her because she's trying to change and that she's working hard at it, not because 'she's one of us'.

I actually like this blog. I'd take translations of interesting Japanese articles over Sankaku's "look at our so random otaku humor XD" or Danny Choo's "my dad is rich watch me dance around Tokyo dressed as a storm trooper and get free shit" any day. I wish she would add more of her own insight as someone from Japan though.
