Why does it have to be one or the other? Otome heroines can do more than be career-driven cakes and NPC-tier nobodies who like to cook and clean. They can be princesses learning to rule a kingdom and find a suitor to rule with. They can be witches, magical girls, pop stars, authors, literally anything. And 8/10 times they are demure wallflowers with "domestically inclined" as their key personality trait.

Honestly I think "likes to cook and clean" being the summation of a character's interests means the writers have absolutely no clue what girls actually like to do. Even Japanese girls who aim to be housewives have other interests like reading, some kind of art, following a particular band/music genre, gardening, social clubs, and so on. "Likes to cook and clean" means "girls probably like to do these things, so the protagonist does as well in order to be relatable".

I've finished Neil route in Shingakkou.
Wow. The game is even better than I thought and I had very high expectations.
The story, art and voice acting are superb. I've already run out of favorite lines saving slots. Religious themes are not just for flavor, but actively being discussed, sometimes with unexpected grasp. Neil has appealing personality and great synergy with the MC. The issues about his route are treated seriously and his ending is very touching. Sex scenes are short, but nice and the pre-sex talk is the best part.
Now I've started Leonid route. As for the priest LI (the reason I've became interested in this game), he is really amazing, I can't wait to unlock his route.

If you think about it more, the MC not having a personality makes a lot of sense.
First if the MC had a personality they'd have to spend more time carefully writing the story, since not only do they have another fully fleshed out character, that fully fleshed out character is at the center of the story. This would just be a wasted expense
Also, giving her a personality might make her incompatible with some of the love options, either meaning some routes would be no good, or you'd have to spend more time and money on writing the route to make it satisfactory.
Well a MC with a fully fleshed out character would produce a better story, the effort to do so would most likely outweigh the benefits.

Automata was very different from his previous works when it comes to the "message"/story. The previous games had pretty much in-your-face messages you could get through gameplay (like Drakengard and the reason behind violence) and Replicant was a play on common tropes in the jrpg genre and had its cheesy references. Not saying that Replicant had a simple story but it was very heartfelt and got to the point + you could enjoy digging for more info, everything revolved around the idea "are we actually doing the right thing?".

Automata had some much more convoluted plot elements and felt like a huge ramble and a heap of ideas thrown together. Like, he references some concepts from Beauvoir's work (the three women in love), but does a cringy take on her philosophy where I've even seen fans do huge mental gymnastics to interpret it positively. Same with the other philosophy references, it's like they followed some rule of cool but wanted to be a bit deep. A lot of fans blame the change in tone on his co-writers for the game changing as one of the writers left the series before Automata to write novels.

This happened in 2009/2010 approx.

It all started with an ugly, sad, landwhale chink with a high rank on OD (I think she was a mod) who also happened to have a LJ blog in which she sold some tokuten for otomefags. This chink joined many public and secret/private groups that were popular on the platform back then to sell the merchandise she didn't want. You know, in those years Neromance series got their anime adaptation and Hakuoki series was a new phenomenon and everyone wanted the new releases.

One day, that sad chink joined a group where otomefags shared games they ripped themselves with people who were willing to share other games in exchange. In that group, the chink found some download links for a game that was recently shared on OD and you can imagine what she thought: she came to the brilliant conclusion that some users from LJ were leaking the pirated content chinks had on OD.

From that very moment, this chink started PMing all users from that group and spamming their blogs with messages like 'I have a very high rank in that forum you get the games from, so take down your links or I'll ban you there'. Of course, a lot of users didn't have any idea about what the fuck this stalker was talking about and they just ignored her. The stalking became worse with time and she later PMed the same people with their IPs (remember that some LJ groups showed them by default) and that she was going to ban them from OD in a few more days.

There were some users who concluded that this chink was from OD and they asked her if she was from there by any chance, and they tried to explain to her that they ripped their own games. The chink told them not to play fools and that if they owned the games they should prove her wrong by posting photos. Just to make her STFU, some users took photos, but there were users who refused because her attitude was really nasty up to that point.

The chink, butthurt, insisted that she was going to make all people from otome groups get banned just because there were suspicious people who were sharing games from OD on LJ and didn't want to admit it.

It was a fact that she didn't have any proof, but she kept stalking until she got some IPs that coincided with the IPs of user accounts registered on OD (she lurked many, many secret groups until she got what she needed, not only the specific one where she found the links). Aside from her 'social engineering', she also created some fake accounts (helped by chink friends) and she joined otome groups and filled them with direct links to games that you could download without registering on OD. They did it to sum more 'proofs' so leonnadesiko (owner of OD) could perform herself a mass ban of every foreigner IP.

Some LJ otomefags noticed what the chink was doing and there was a particular one who wrote her in chinknese (using Google Translator) asking her to stop her circus. Nobody expected that the use of Google Translator was going to trigger chinks so much they took that as a proof that the translator was the reason why they got so many westerns in their forum (it still blows my mind, chinks didn't know Google was decent enough to create a sentence in their shitty language).

Once the chink had all the proofs and the story she wanted to tell leonnadesiko she actually made the mass ban possible. What happened next was a massive complaint from non-involved people in the drama who lost their recently bought account through premium pass. Some users paid for the 80USD pass (which was the most expensive back then) and never got their money back. All they got was a reply by leonnadesiko telling them : 'You won't be granted access again until you and your friend delete your sites and files and show me. I don't want a promise by mouth only'.

You can imagine that a lot of people who never knew about the LJ incident or who weren't even involved got the same fucking reply by the bitch. OD was issued by PayPal for fraud, but who cares, they're chinks. They opened a new acc with a new name and kept giving passes to bew members anyway, but they became anal with their registering system thanks to the incident on LJ.

I actually first started to really pick up Japanese (past genki 1 stuff) from listening to situation CDs and reading translations along with them. You have to listen to the Japanese track more closely than with subtitled anime for example to make sure you're keeping up with the translation and I ended up picking up basic spoken Japanese fairly fast.
