Most likely, they'll be announced in a couple of weeks to coincide with when AX normally would happen (Probably within the timeframe of July 3-5). I expect the same timeframe for both JAST and Mangagamer, though IIRC, the Muv Luv franchise has announcements planned for July 1st. I was expecting Sekai to reduce their presence in the VN scene overtime, but depending on the announcements, that expection could be completely wrong. Though, the announcements could just as easily be only indie games.
It's kind of funny how after all this time, the MG survey results still haven't been released. It would be funny if they were released on the day on the MG announcements just to say "Hey guys, look at these announcements that match with the survey results".

I think the exhibitor page is more of an advertisement for companies that usually go to AX rather than an indication of who will be presented in the 2 12 hour livestreams on July 2nd and 3rd. It's possible though, and it would be funny if the livestream got taken down because either Twitch or Youtube got offended by MG announcing Funbag Fantasy 3 or something like that even if they kept the panel all ages.

Tokyo Babel is a very correct translation. If it sounds boring and rigid at times, it's because of the original (basically a failed literary experiment of mixing the high school setting with angels, demons and the purgatory).

I still don't know why they picked up this super expensive all ages title instead of some older 18+ chuunige which would be much cheaper and probably sold better.

I don't think anything happened between Fakku and Orcsoft, I just think Orcsoft want more of their games translated and reached out to other companies because Fakku were slow at getting Chii-chan out. I don't think anyone but Quof knows what happened between him and Fakku.
>and where are the supposed 10 license announcement from Fakku?
I doubt they dropped them, but maybe they're doing something similar to what (I assume) they do with their manga and only announce it when it's ready or almost ready since both of their current releases were delayed about a year before they actually released.

Maybe not the best place to ask, but here it goes

Is every single VN by Key worth reading? The only one I finished reading is Clannad and I was expecting the same level of quality on their other VNs, but I'm currently reading Kanon and it isn't as good

>> No.24385814

>>24385751
They're all the same thing.

>> No.24386087

>>24385751
I haven't read Kanon or Air, but I know that they aren't quite as well regarded as Clannad. I think I've heard better things about Air, but that just might be it's been in translation hell for the longest time. I haven't read Summer Pockets, but it seems to be popular enough. I'm waiting for the newest version to be translated before I try out the game for myself.

Little Busters has a hilarious common route and while the overall structure was similar to Clannad, I like how it was friendship focused. I like Rewrite a lot, but it's pretty different enough from other Key games for being more action focused. It does have one of my favorite themes in a fictional work: Fuck the Earth; do what's best for humanity and get to fucking space already. Planetarian is short and sweet.

>> No.24386139

>>24385751
I'd consider them each worth reading since Key has the formula down pat. But that comes with a caveat: space them out. Read a few other vns between each Key vn because the formula of characters, pacing, story, etc... is so similar between titles. If you don't, you'll just end up feeling ambivalent and drained and they won't be effective as nakige at all.

Can't really recommend anything since I don't know your tastes.
Do you have a preference for length, genre, content, etc?
If you're unsure, you can skim through vndb's top rated and see what catches your eye.

But to throw some recommendations out there, I really recommend:
Fata Morgana no Yakata
Kara no Shoujo
YU-NO (not the remake)

>> No.24386429

>>24386365
Personally, I wouldn't recommend YU-NO solely because of the mechanics which can put off anyone not really used to adventure games. The story is pretty great though, despite some flaws here ot there.

It's not too bad with the walkthrough. The worst part is some of the pixel hunting that you have to do, but you get used to it. It's still worth giving a shot simply because historically it's one of the most important visual novels.

>> No.24386575

>>24386429
Ah, see, I usually recommend it to beginners just to give them an idea of what vns can offer in terms of mechanics. The point-and-click also tends to keep them interested for longer. Feel it also helps to open them up to the pc98 era. I can see where you're coming from though.

The anime are pale imitations of the VNs which I would only recommend if you have no intentions of ever reading the source material. Especially Clannad as it's ending only makes sense with the multi-route structure of the VN. If you HAVE to watch the animes, make sure to read the VNs first.

Kanon is their first VN and I agree that it feels rather dated now.
Air is an improvement and shares some themes with Clannad later on.
Clannad also has a spin-off game called Tomoyo After, which is like an After Story for Tomoyo's route, and it's very good.
Planetarian is a short sci-fi VN that's worth reading.
Little Busters is another one of their classics like Clannad and you should definitely read it.
Rewrite has a new translation coming out soon so I'd wait on that one -- it's really good but also pretty different from the rest.

It doesn't matter, but I think you should watch the adaptations of Kanon, Air, and Clannad at least, which were all done by KyoAni. Clannad has the best adaptation of any VN once you get to After Story. Little Busters does a good job with some of the later aspects of the story as well, but on the whole isn't as good since it was done by a different animation company.

I still have mixed feelings about Tomoyo After. Tomoyo feels like a completely different character even with her voice muted; Tomoya is really off as well, especially in the latter third.
The side characters were annoying and felt really forced. The story structure really needed some work. But somehow, despite all of that, it hit really hard. Years later and I still occasionally find myself thinking back on it with a kind of melancholic nostalgia.

I don't agree with all of your complaints, but I do think Tomoyo and Tomoya felt a bit different. But then again it's technically a separate thing from Clannad (hence no Clannad in the title) and it's trying to communicate something different with its story, so I'm not sure how much I can fault it on that account. It doesn't end happily. I went back and rewatched it just to make sure, since it's been a while, and you're misrepresenting the tone. To put it more clearly, in the bad ending their relationship loses the higher component that it had (I'm not sure how to put this really, but their relationship has this kind of special, selfless quality) and becomes primarily carnal, with Tomoyo dropping out of school and moving in with Tomoya, and Tomoya just wanting to fuck Tomoyo all of the time (the very last line is him complaining that he can't fuck her because Tomo is sleeping nearby). That's basically what happens in Tomoyo's bad ending in Clannad -- she fails to become the student council president, and thus fails to save the sakura trees for Takafumi, and so she decides to drop out of school and move in with Tomoya, and he feels like their relationship has lost something. As promised (unless I say a story was particularly good or bad, I thought it was mediocre)
01. Nagisa - (Nagisa POV) takes place a year before the start of Clannad and is about Nagisa making a friend at school and falling victim to a prank set up by Tomoya and Sunohara - this was a adapted into a special episode for the anime along with story 03
02. Kouko - (Kouko POV) Fuuko's sister keeps a diary about all of the weird shit that Fuuko does (takes place prior to her accident); this was pretty funny and one of the better stories
03. Kyou - (Kyou POV) takes place a year before the start of Clannad and is about Kyou becoming friends with Tomoya and starting to like him - this also adapted into a special episode of the anime with story 01
04. Ryou - (Ryou POV) takes place prior to the start of Clannad and explains why Ryou started to like Tomoya
05. Tomoyo - (Tomoyo POV) takes place during Tomoyo's route while she is dating Tomoya, and she tells him about some stuff that happened when she was a delinquent - cameo of Yukine's brother when he was alive
06. Mei - I don't remember this one at all, which should tell you enough
07. Boton - (Boton POV) I don't really remember much about this one, you get Boton's view of some characters I guess
08. Akio - (Akio POV) Explains how Akio and Sanae started dating, this one was decent
09. Kotomi - (Tomoya POV) Explains how Kotomi got the white dress she wears in the last CG of her route (who gives a fuck?) - I was pretty disappointed here because I wanted to read something from Kotomi's perspective since she was one of my favorite heroines
10. Yukine - (Tomoya POV) Explains why Yukine's magic spells worked it was the spirit of her dead brother doing it
11. Kappei - (Ryou POV) takes place at some point in Kappei's route; some girl tells Ryou some stuff about Kappei back when he was an athlete
12. Misae - don't remember the POV, it's about Yoshino performing a song for Misae back when they were in high school because she was sad about Shima disappearing
13. Koumura - don't remember the POV, Kouko and Fuuko go visit Koumura and he talks about how he was neglectful of his wife or some shit
14. Tomoya 1 - (??? timeline) everyone plays another baseball game like in the baseball ending of the VN
15. Tomoya 2 - (??? timeline) everyone goes to a bathhouse after the baseball game, it's lame
16. Ushio - (Tomoya POV) Here we fucking go. I'm going to put this in spoilers because frankly this is some amazingly terrible shit. It was actually written by Jun Maeda which made me wonder whether he's actually a fucking hack or if he was deliberately trolling people with this. Anyway, this takes place after the true ending of After Story where everyone is alive; Ushio is in like elementary school or something, and she decides that for her summer vacation she would like to go travel around the world ALONE so that she can visit the various tows of the world and see what they're like. Tomoya is like "I dunno sounds kind of dangerous" but everyone else (Nagisa, Akio, Sanae) are perfectly fine with it so they buy her an airplane ticket to France or some shit and she leaves ALONE (Tomoya can't go see her off at the airport because he has to work lol). Then you get some brief scenes of her (again she's like 8) hitchhiking around Europe ALONE and everything is perfectly fine and I bet you thought this story took place in the real world, huh? Well you were wrong, idiot. Thanks for the $20 on Steam ;)
