I think it will take some time for vocaloid producers to adapt to the new tech (just like 2017 vocaloid songs were really simple compared to the later stuff even using Vocaloid 2), and they have to fix the engine since I assume a lot of the problems are people having to work around the engine and the editor current limitations (for example no vibrato)

That would make sense for most voicebanks but not really Miku. The character Miku is much more profitable than the synth software itself (that is a niche product only used by a fraction of the fanbase, and some of those even pirate it), She has concerts, games, licensed songs, all kinds of merch from cheap to expensive, it's used in multiple collabs and commercials. Plus it already gets an extra part of the software earnings thanks to piapro studio anyway. That's probably why Yamaha doesn't really care that much in burning bridges, it's not getting all that Miku money at all.

Now Crypton had to pay at least 3-4 years of a full developer team (and will keep paying because of the continued support) without actually selling anything (and taking a risk that the software will not get anywhere) when they could have released one version of each of their voicebanks on Vocaloid 5 and had gotten the money 2 years ago for a lot less effort.

Honestly, I think coming out later helped Fukase immensely. Piko came out when the Crypton family, characterization, etc. was still very important, which hurt him. I think Piko can sound better than Vocaloid2 Len, but everyone kept forcing him into a shrilly high range that just didn't work at all. The niche for male vocaloids seems to have grown over time as well.

I thought the sentiment was mainly about graphics, but yeah. Animation in the games is 95% mocap anyway, the difference is how much time you spend on small adjustments and polishing.
The motion in that video is ripped from Project Diva, but adapted to work great with that particular model.
So it's entirely possible to get that animation quality in games, the main time-consuming problem is to get every motion to work that well with every model/module (different body proportions, clothes and hair are a pain in the ass).

Because if you take a 192 kbps music file (usually ripped from YouTube, Soundcloud or most streaming sites) and then encode them to 320 kbps, flac etc. It doesn't increases the quality because once the quality is lost you can't get it back. It's not really the act of moving out that I was complaining (everyone has to leave someday), but making songs for which vocaloid only seem like incidental singers, already aiming at replacing them with human singers from start. I feel like the more Vocaloid becomes realistic sounding like a real person (like Yamaha wants), the more that approach makes sense, while Crypton's objective with NT is going back to make their singers more their own thing, which might bring more comparative interest in exploring this non human voices and characters (especially if it's really easy to use).

There's a tradeoff between realism and expressiveness/flexibility. After listening to some SynthV and Neutrino, I've realized that the roboticness of vocaloid is perfectly suited to vocaloid music. There's a reason why the demos for new synths all use slower-than-average Miku originals, anime openings, etc.

Yes, but only to some point. After that, you go past valley and everything gets better and better as you approach human model. I think we are already past it, with for example utaoids being closer to the valley and maybe some old synthesizers. like old windows one, being the most creepy.

Still, I wouldn't focus too much on it. After all, it's just a model and very simplified on top. You can't just reduce everything to one axis and expect it to adequately describe people's reaction to it. For example many peoples here actually enjoy robotic-ness of Miku voice, often more than real human voice, and this just makes no sense in context of uncanny valley.
