Hello everyone. Just a quick update regarding the incoming Chinaloid CDs: my copies of Jungle Rules and FM40.4 are still in transit, as shipping services have been heavily delayed due to the pandemic. The package is either waiting for a spot on a plane, or waiting to be processed into customs, and I'm unsure which. But while I've been assured it's not lost, I'm also told it could take another month for delivery.

I had hoped things would be back to normal by now, but I guess not. A new album "Queendom" is set to be announced, with vocals from Stardust, Sky, and Chiyu. Maybe by the time my order arrives, it'll be time to order the new one too.

I ordered this acrylic stand because I'm too much of a poorfag to afford normal figures and it's very pretty, but I want the actual image inside of the stand, if that makes sense. Does anyone have it?

Miku NT sounds like Miku but with the choppiness of an old UTAU with CeVIO's engine noise. Piapro Studio crashes a fucking LOT too, but that's something they can realistically fix before release, so I won't hold it against them.
Not a Luka V4X tier blunder or anything, but Miku V4X is still the better option for now in my opinion.

Vocaloid is a 20 years old software by a music and technology multinational, Crypton is a media and recording company with probably less than 100 employees and with 4-5 years at most working on the engine. Vocaloid is a dead end so they have to start somewhere, but the first (finished) version is clearly targeting vocaloid 2 miku with some extras (which is fine since there is a market for that and you can't buy new a vocaloid compatible with that voicebank anymore). With a few years of experience with making the engine, multiple voicebanks supported and more polished interface they'll have a chance to become competitive.

I agree with you, the choppiness and noise are definitely some of the largest issues once the bugs are resolved. I think the choppiness might be improved with the "dynamics & attack speed control", if I understand it correctly, when it comes out of beta (and beyond), but the noise issue might be fundamentally harder. I'm still excited to see where it's going and happy that it didn't become vaporware, crypton is a serious company so I don't expect them to leave it in any bad state and will definitely listen to the feedback.

Basically Yamaha (the creator of the software called Vocaloid) and Crypton (the company who owns the image of Miku and other "cryptonloids" and is responsible for recording and processing the voice of the voice providers like Saki Fujita) broke up because of Vocaloid 5 (as did most other voicebank creators). In order to still release new versions of Miku they were forced to either go to a competidor technology (like 1st place that went to CeVIO) or build their own, and they chose the latter.

But now they have to replace a 20 year old mature software from a large corporation in a fraction of time and with a fraction of the resources (though Yamaha itself was downsizing the Vocaloid team). Which is why even after it's finished it will be a sidegrade instead of a straight upgrade at best (at least until other major revisions/updates).

I think that they imported Miku into V5 and she didn't quite sound like Miku anymore, the engine was too realistic. So Crypton moved to their own engine to preserve Miku's voice. It might be because Miku voicebank wasn't designed with english in mind since Saki Fujita didn't even speak english at that point. After that mistake at the start they couldn't make her sound consistent between languages while still good in english (unlike Luka V2 that they made well from scratch for the two language to the point that it was already arguably better than the V4x version).

I hope they are being careful to create a solid polyglot foundation on NT, even if they still haven't even nailed japanese yet. Especially since they will be able to patch smaller incorrect pronunciations on demand now.
