I imagine FaceRig or a similar analog can probably pick out a face from an image capture and track expression, especially with a better camera.

My own experiments with FR indicate that even with a shitty 720p webcam, I can still get good facial tracking when I'm scooted way back from my computer and my face is like 1/10th of the capture area
