I feel that CiLR does a good job explaining why Youmu is so ignorant, it seems Yuyuko is somewhat at fault.

When Youmu asks Yuyuko whether it's foolish to ask questions about things she doesn't know, Yuyuko gives her a convoluted explanation and summarizes with that she should just figure stuff out herself rather than ask questions. She then says that a life where there is nothing left to learn will only bring unhappiness, then later bashes Youmu for studying a book. Yuyuko clearly have a very lax attitude towards education.

I personally think that Yuyu doesn't care much about Youmu's growth as long as she can have fun with her and have her perform her basic duties, I guess she want's Youmu to remain a child forever...

Very true, she's only ever referred to as a "youkai" but since what happened in the prior chapters that fully confirms that now.

I'm more of the belief that Mei is simply a low/mediocre-tier youkai, who maybe conned her way into SDM, for easy shelter and food after leaving the mainland, by impressing (scamming) Sakuya with her abilities or "perseverance" (as Sakuya puts it in those SCOW reviews).
As before the employment of the hobgoblins, Sakuya was under the impression that Mei wasn't actually supposed to be a "weak" gatekeeper (considering their back and forth quotes in soku) and is most likely a hire by Sakuya, who's in charge of management of those employed at SDM.
Quality employment at the SDM is too lax and they pretty much just lower the bar for anyone, as long as they say they want to work, so Sakuya just gives anyone a job, no matter how suspicious, and literally ends up babysitting a bunch of freeloading fairies.
Nobody really gets fired either but it's most likely planned that way just to make the mansion seem more livelier to entertain the mistresses.

Don't think it really works though especially with novels since they only really do those little pics or a big colour title spread but I just wanted to throw them in anyway.

I don't want to criticize after you did all that work, but I said "images from the first chapter" not "the very first and last page". Due to the way I phrased it, you might have misinterpreted "very first" to mean something other than "I meant only the first fairy manga", which I suppose is both unfair to Matsukura and Hirasaka anyway. My only intention was to compare random pages from the beginnings, the common art, as opposed to the high effort art of the first time drawing a character or the colored setting pages at the beginning of a manga. These comparisons are still nice though.
