I posted on the last thread about my creepy cute DDH-01 girl, and now she finally has a body. Still waiting for clothes/wigs to arrive because corona is fucking up Taobao shipments, but she'll have a grey wig, horns and more band-aids on her face eventually. These clothes/wigs are borrowed from my other dolls, they're fine for placeholders while I'm waiting for all the actual stuff to arrive.

I also make my own resin eyes, I might make a few other designs for her besides the ones she has on in this.

You have some options. You can wrap a thin layer of electrical tape around the neck peg or paint it in clear nail polish or glue (LET IT DRY) to provide more fiction. Check the head for cracks in the hole for the neck, too.

This is my first summer with my Dollfie, will heat damage her? I already keep her out of the sunlight but it can get pretty hot in my house, and especially my room

Haven't been able to find a ready custom head I like enough, so I was wondering how hard it would be to mod my own. I've done some modding on BJD heads before, but idk how you're supposed to handle vinyl heads. Will sandpapers work, what should I use if I plan to open up the mouth? A knife?

You can use most of the same materials as for resin bjd heads. Knives and sandpaper work fine for modding/opening eyeholes and mouths. Just remember to use really fine sandpaper, vinyl gets scratched easily due to being soft and hoarse sandpaper will leave behind scratches/lines.
I'm pretty sure most paints/sealants that work for resin also work on vinyl. I've used the paints and sealants that VOLKS makes and those can be used on both resin and vinyl.

Overall, just remember that vinyl is softer and stains easier. Also post your WIPs and final product here if you want, pretty sure most anons would love to see, at least I do.

To add to this, as far as chemicals go, if you need to do a face wipe, don't use acetone or anything with acetone in it. Use alcohol or non-acetone nail polish remover to protect the vinyl.

He's the kind of guy that says "you just don't get my ART, man." While not being the sculptor or having really any creative input on the dolls at all, on top of being a petty little bastard man that has publicly thrown tantrums over people disagreeing with him and even banned them from his store for finding fault with his brand. Even when he shipped out faulty products, like a doll missing a face mask layer. He's just an insufferable motherfucker, but the dolls themselves are nice in spite of Danny being a motherfucker.

He has an excuse for everything ("it's not defective, it's wabi-sabi!") and cannot take even one ounce of criticism without a massive blow-up. He's just an unfortunate motherfucker to deal with- and god help you if ever you have to replace a broken part, because they aren't available directly. You have to basically ask permission to purchase them, and the fucker can and will tell you "no" if he doesn't like you.

I'd post sources, but just go look at some of his most recent instagram posts. He literally cannot make a post without throwing in a comment like "working in customer service is modern day slavery" and "in spite of the backlash we will continue making this doll" when the only backlash was a few people saying "I'm most excited for this doll," when it was the other one Danny wanted to take off.

tl;dr he's a lolcow that acts like he's a victim when he's the son of a world-famous shoe designer, and benefits directly from his father's business contacts.

Oh yeah, I forgot about some of that. He's promised 1/6 dolls, instead he made 1/2 dolls that literally no one can afford. He promised things like blank heads and spare parts for sale, and those still have not materialized. Not even for the "cortex" (read: plastic) bodies. He said he was going to release a Cocoa (read: brown) skintone boy, we haven't seen him in over a year. I think I'm blocked by Danny because he asked publicly for feedback on his sculpt and I responded. He was going to release plastic hair for people who don't want to style it (think nendroid hair,) but he only sold the one prototype and hasn't done anything since. He routinely discontinues things without warning, and has a "prototype sales garage" where he lists the doll equivalent of beta tests for sale, sometimes for over 200,000 yen. He also routinely changes prices of shit without notification, basically everything in the store got a price increase again the other day. Danny offers free shipping if you order a certain amount (before the DHL-only thing started thanks to corona-chan,) and he sort of min-maxed pricing of everything in the store to be either 100 yen under the "doll+cheap good" free shipping amount, or at least 2000 yen over that amount. It's brilliant, but he is a bastard.

It's a shame, because I like the dolls, and the quality of the wigs and stuff is honestly fantastic (though I believe it was revealed that TTYA makes his clothes for him lmao.) The products are good! The problem everyone has is that the face of the company is a PR nightmare that no one wants to deal with. (And he has a little cult following of people who come after you if you say any of this in public, to boot.)

The biggest trick is getting it all nice and even so the collars of the two robes look right, and tying the obi takes practice, but there are tons of videos intended for humans online. If you are willing to spend an hour of research and practice you should easily be able to get to a picture-ready point!

Try to de-emphasize the protrusion of the mouth area below the nose next time, if you can. It could jsut be the sculpt or lighting, but it really doesn't look good. Google isn't telling me the lines there are called parentheses lines, but who fuckin' knows.

Be a little more specific about what you mean by "making" anon. If you mean physically crafting dolls, there are ways to sculpt and produce your own, usually cast in resin. If you mean customizing existing dolls, there are guides for that as well. As for a club- maybe locally depending on where you live? Online there are forums and places like this. It's fun and ties into a lot of other hobbies. Some people enjoy the crafting side of the hobby like painting their faces or sewing clothes for them. Some enjoy taking photos of them, and others just enjoy having something cute to look at and fiddle with during their day-to-day. Do Obitsu bodies stain less than Dollfie Dreams? I've been wanting a cute doll for a while and I enjoy the look of both Obitsu/DD, but all the horror stories about how easily DDs stain are kind of scaring me off. I don't want to have her in a body stocking all the time and I'd rather she be able to hang out next to me in cute clothing instead of having to take it off after every shoot etc for fear of staining.

Similar staining, it's the nature of vinyl.
I've had a DD for over a year, and I leave her in her outfits for about a month at a time. I've only had one instance of staining, because of a navy colored sleeve, and it wasn't that bad. The horror stories are there as a cautionary, and you really only need to be careful with dark colors. What's nice about DD too is that all the parts are available separately, so if you do get some horrific staining, it's easy to swap out the parts. Not cheap, but easy.
Also, it's easy to do stain guarding without using a body stocking, just by layering the outfit with normal clothes (nylon stockings, undershirts, panties and bras) and some pieces that just cover the areas needed. Don't let staining scare you off, just do basic prevention and research and you'll be fine.

don't worry too much anon. while i've personally accepted that stains are part of the doll experience for me personally, most outfits have never given me any issues. avoid dark/saturated colors and black and you won't have much to worry about -- the pastel aesthetic is practical as well as cute. and if something really does stain, the good thing with obitsu/dd bodies is that you can replace damn near all of them. treat yourself!

this girl of mine is suffering a case of blue arms, but she's on an old body i'm planning to replace anyway, so now i just use it to test for clothing stains in advance. it's all worked out so far.

(as to your question, i wouldn't say either one is more or less likely to stain in my experience-- someone else may have more practical evidence on that front though.

Like other anons have said, staining is not the end of the world. Washing dark outfits before putting them on your doll helps a bit, and body stockings really aren't that bad either. Plus, you can get rid of most stains with RemoveZit if they do appear. Or if you're paranoid, just use light-colored clothing and it will be fine even without any protection.
I've had the same dark blue dress on one of my dolls for five years (holy shit that sounds so fucking long, but I took a break from photographing dolls and they've just been on display in the glass caginer in my living room), and even though the dress touches the bare vinyl in the wrist of the doll where the body stocking doesn't reach, it has never stained.

Pretty much. The face tries to go for the anime style of DDs while at the same time having the big defined nose and lips. The bridge of the nose ends up looking absolutely massive, leaving the eyes looking too far apart, then the nose itself looks too small compared to the size of the bridge, and because of the size of the head there's then barely any room between the nose and mouth and then the mouth and chin.
It feels to me like it's the worst of both worlds rather than the best. I've seen SDs that I liked much more than that.
