Hadaka was a meme title that traumatized overly sensitive tumblr users after it was fan translated, which might explain why it didn't sell well officially. It didn't really have a fan base despite it's notoriety. BLfags (in the west) seem too squeamish against torture and such. The same could be said of most eroge players, but there's enough people interested to play titles like Euphoria or Maggots Baits that they sell well enough, and extreme content doesn't deter gameplay eroge fans in the slightest (Evenicle and Venus Blood Frontier).
Though, I haven't played Hadaka, so the issue might not be the extreme content and simply due to it being bad. On the other hand, the whole Lucky Dog situation is a clusterfuck; I don't even think that MG has a translator for that title right now since apparently the original fan translator machine translated.

in the past 10 years, BLfags in the west have gone from the kinds of people who shipped shota incest on main and no one gave a shit to being the kinds of people who lose their shit over shit like a three year age gap between two adults and calling stuff incest because the characters said they were like brothers once. Some of the most popular ships in the past are things that you'd get harassed for liking now. It's wild how much things have changed and makes me wonder if edgy BL has a big enough audience in english speaking communities to even bother with any TL in the first place.

The best advice I can give is to just do it. Right now. A lot of people talk about learning or spend several days trying to research how to learn. They procrastinate until they lose motivation. Go start learning kana and radicals right now, seriously right now, then about a week later grab an Anki deck or whatever else and start learning kanji, vocab, and grammar. Harness your anger/frustration/motivation while you still have it. Your initial burst of motivation will fade with time, but by then you will hopefully be studying out of routine more than anything else.

The hardest part is the very beginning. You know nothing and are being bombarded by overwhelming amounts of information from all sides. If you can stick with it for a month or two you should be able to get over the initial hurdle and establish a foundation that makes all future learning easier.

Sol Press hasn't reached Sekai Project or JAST USA tier of stalled projects, but they're getting there. Though more likely, they'll crash and burn before they get to that point unless they shape up. Meanwhile, despite MG having the occasional stalled title, they almost always release something per month while Nekonyan seems to be doing a decent job of releasing a title every few months. Maybe they'll get to the point where they can release something every three months or something like that.

At least for Degica, the yuri VNs from Kogado seem profitable enough. Though to be fair, they sell RPGmaker and various indie games, so if they wanted to sell yuri VNs at a minor loss, they probably could.

I think I remember this project. They were largely going to use the fansub some guy had posted on youtube. The guy in question didn't know kanji. They were going to expand on and edit his existing work.

After years, the editing has been a crawl. My guess is they realize the "translation" was a joke, but don't want to admit it. The fact that even the old "manager" claims not to have a copy of the script makes me suspect he knows it was trash.

Fakku + KaguraGames
While Lune approached MangaGamer first, there is no way that they have deep enough pockets to compete with Fakku. While JAST could outbid Fakku, they are more interested in releasing decade old titles which are already fan-translated and BL stuff. Plus it would take them 5 years to release it too and the Lune guy wanted it released in 2 years or less.
The Lune guy also mentioned multiple times that he wants Lewd Elves to be on steam and Fakku/KaguraGames already managed to release Oral Lessons With Chii-chan on steam together with a Chink translation.

Speaking of FAKKU, I'm surprised at their lack of announced games. I remember early last year someone was live posting things from their panel on twitter and said they had something like 10 unannounced games they were working on.
Also I don't think Chii-chan being on steam matters that much since it's one character who has massive tits, MG also has their big tit nukige on steam. The problem with Sukebe Elf is that a steam employee will take on look at Nol's sprite and decline the game.

As to Kizuna Kirameku Koi Iroha, the publisher went with an all ages build and a seperate R18 patch for their previous release, so it was unlikely to be all that explicit. The official release has censored upskirts, no suit nipples, no nudity/hscenes, cropped CG's, a censored soundtrack with the removal of 2 or 3 tracks for legal reasons and 1 new song added to replace them. The directors cut patch restores H-scenes and nothing else. It doesn't restore the censored upskirts, it doesn't bring back suit nipples, and the soundtrack is still changed. It still has mosaics in the H-scenes because
>if we removed mosaics in the restoration patch we'd have to create a brand new patch to sell in japan because selling titles without mosaics is illegal there and we don't want to spend the time and resources doing this so it'll remain with mosaics
according to Anchor themselves.

>>23651174
No it's not. The only censorship the fan TL has is mosaics. Content wise the fan-translation is far superior simply because it has ALL of the content, so if you can live with the heavily outdated engine and rougher translation it is the best version to read for the full muv-luv experience. Whether getting the entirety of the original is worth the lower resolution and notably worse engine is entirely up to the reader. In my case I prefer the version that has the most content, even if it's janky or uglier than the remastered release with less content.

It'll be a coin-flip if that makes it. They judge each game in a vacuum, that's how KnS1 made it just fine but KnS2 was banned. KnS1 released in the early days of their anything goes policy, as did Evenicle. Things are way harsher now that they're banning the all age builds of VNs for having school uniforms like LocaLove 2.

JAST is a really strange one in terms of censorship discussion. They often cut swathes of content out of their titles which requires an unofficial third-party fan-patch, but that "unofficial" fan-patch is (almost) always available on day 1 with no mosaics and no compatibility issues with the official release. This brings discussion of their censorship to a strange place because their censorship is undoubtedly a bad thing since cutting content out of titles is bad. However if you're capable of purchasing said title, then you're also able to acquire a patch that restores everything. I don't think it's something that should be encouraged because it sets a positive precedent for censorship by showing it's okay to censor products at a public level even though you're capable of getting the full experience with an "unofficial" patch that is on the same level of quality as the official title.

However with most modern VN publishing companies being so pro-censorship, it's hard to boycott JAST titles because at the end of the day you end up with a completely uncensored product at the same time the censored product launches which is essentially what customers want. It's an objectively reasonable compromise that provides both parties exactly what they want however I can't help but feel it's a step in the wrong direction and sets a bad tone for the western VN industry as a whole. They shouldn't be praised for doing this but they also shouldn't be boycotted so long as the patches continue to restore every bit of content and continue to be the same release quality as the official title while being released at the same time.

This is a new level in hilarity, so how the fuck does the unpatched steam version work? You start and you already got the girl? Worst yet, only ONE route is available unless patched. Would anyone even think about playing this unpatched?

Some game got put on steam and you literally couldn't play it, if you didn't have an uncensor patch the 'new game' option was unavailable.

Yeah, at least for VNs most of the userbase would probably be aware enough that something is missing.
Imagine if some other game did that kinda shit though. Like a game that has no violence can be "ABACABB'd" by using a patch, thereby bypassing the ESRB age gates. Mods are one thing (made by 3rd parties), but uncensor patches typically are on the dev's own webpage...

I don't mean to speak of you specifically, just in general. It's just that a few dozen lines gives a general idea but until an actual patch comes out, you could just be cherrypicking your best/most understood lines. So try to avoid drawing any offsite attention until you have something to share. A lot of people have gotten their hopes up about potential translations that never materialize in any capacity despite being announced and the ones that do often tend to be machine quality.

Gin'iro though is actually really good. The romantic progression is amazing. It really takes its time developing the characters and their relationships which is exceptionally rare. A lot of games either throw a bunch of h-scenes at you with nothing in between, or shitty drama that ruins the whole route. It's pretty much the best game if you just want a pure romance game.

When you get to 10% or 25% or some obvious milestone like that put a TBA english translation on vndb, you don't need a release to do that. If you are fantranslating it and aren't doing it through something like patreon you don't really need to do samples, just dump it when you're finished. You can still post dialogue samples in whatever community you frequent and see how people like your translation without actually doing a partial patch.

A little info about Totono. When you pirate the game it comes already pre-installed. Means that every pirate is playing the same choices and events. What? What do you mean? Are the choices randomly generated upon installation or what? Or does the installation itself have options for you to customize when you install it? And if so to what degree does it affect the experience?

The point is that the game generates a random seed upon installing which changes up small variables unless JAST has removed that piece of original code, because it was too hard for them to program without Doddler.

The questions you get basically generate a new and completely unique heroine for every player. When people end up with the same heroine with the same attributes, birthday, age and names (the Kanji are random in the japanese version) you know that they started the game from the same source installation - they pirated it.
