Hey /hgg/ I'm sorry for making this post but I've been meaning to find a fun h-game to play during quarantine.
This might sound a bit weird and such games might not even exist but are there any h-games out there which have good gameplay? Think of something like skyrim with sex mods tier.
I've tried AI shoujo but it was a bit disappointing. I have already played games like Kamedori Alchemy Meister but the game only has top down traditional jrpg gameplay. Something that could keep me entertained while having some hentai stuff in it would be nice.
I get that h-games mostly focus on the hentai part and leave gameplay mostly untouched. But I found myself really craving for such a game. Currently playing Trials of Mana and I wish it would be nice if it had h elements.

If you don't mind 2d, try the Repure Aria series and the related game Limulilim(probably also called Rimuririmu by English speakers). The former are Metroidvanias and the latter is a kind of sandbox sidescrolling minecraftish game where you can pick up other people and throw them around. I like the gameplay of "Seinaru no mono e" but the ero is trash. Also by "like the gameplay" I mean "feels like something I would have played on Sega Genesis".

There are some (2d, top down) Monster Hunter parody games. I can't remember what they're called but they're not that good.

For 3D, I can't really think of any that aren't somewhat shit. Rabbit Burn is a good game, but it's short and simple and really goddamn weird. There's a game from a few comikets back, I think it's called Soul Saber 2. It's not porn but you can strip the characters. Although if you want to strip people, you should play the AkibaStrip series even though it's not a erogame series. It's like Yakuza series except you strip people while fighting.

Imo the most fun 3D eroge I've played was Maken Candy, but it's, like the 2D games, retro inspired. In this case it's supposed to be N64ish, so the porn is eh. It has a lot of soul though. Very little ero. Like the 2d games, the retro design with secrets, hidden areas, and some level of difficulty is nostalgic and charming to me. You will most likely look at the game and go "ew, trash" though.

There are probably some western 3D h games with decent gameplay, but you would be better off just modding a game, honestly.

I read Mebae recently (got tricked by the onee-san tag) and I'm pretty sure it used an in-house engine, and pretty cancerous one at that (reminded me of the trash used by Mink, rest in piss). There's a built-in hook in ITHVNR made specifically for that shit, too.

Patvessel anon, are you still here? I'm sorry, but I found a bug in my program you will definitely run into after translating the first few files.
Turns out the $XXX labels in the file are relevant entry points for the engine and their offset has to be recalculated when packing.
That wasn't a problem when I translated my scenario files with text, because there is only a single label in the beginning. When I started changing stuff in other files with multiple labels, the engine would crash because I didn't correct the new offsets in the file header.
When I fixed that, I saw that your scenario files sometimes have multiple labels.
Meaning: please use this version from now on. You don't need to specify options, the script should detect everything automatically.

And another tip: I found out how to tell the EAGLS engine to wrap a line without padding with spaces, thanks to your script. Try using (E) in text. There are also commands for changing color (C=R,G,B)(S=R,G,B) and fontsize (F=0-19), furigana(Y=...) and resetting to default (R).

Also, I don't know if it's the case with the game you're working on, but the config screen in May-Be Soft games is a pop up window (pic related) and I have no idea how to go about translating it since I'm pretty sure it'd require modifying the exe. This isn't me asking you to go out of your way to make tools or whatever to edit it since you've already helped a ton, I'm just wondering if there's perhaps something I'm missing. Worst case scenario I can just include the translations in a readme or take a screenshot of each tab and translate them that way.

Ah, then it's fine. Just try the new version, it should report something like "correcting offset in file..." when packing, then you know that it would have crashed there before because the offset changed. See sc_a04.txt for example:
it has two labels, $start in the beginning, and $Reco_a07u1 after line id 400. If you change the lines, the position where the engine would look up $Reco_a07u1 would change and read garbage. At least in my game, this is a lot of undocumented guesswork...

As I said, I'm not too sure about the labels, this one for example isn't called anywhere directly, but it seems to be used when recording game state (like, what scenes the player has seen or something) in 00Control.txt. I've found many other labels and parts of files that are never called, for example special positions for the character sprites. Maybe they are always there, and it depends on the dev team to use it, idk

You'll also get crashes if you use the apostrophe character in text. The next best choice is using the grave accent `, but I found a way to trick the engine into printing it anyway, I'll try it and report back

Finally it's done, and guess what? VNR doesn't work with games played through DMM Game Player. The client blocks it.
I'm so pissed. Heed my words. If you're going to buy a game that you intend to use a third party machine translation software on, DON'T do it with anything that requires DMM Game player.

That's not the end of the retardation. I'm pretty sure that even with the 18+ patch on, it's still cucked. Like there's a part near the start where the MC sees the loli train's nipples, but in the version I had they were covered with band-aids, or something. I installed a fan patch, that removes the band-aids, but it also broke the H-scenes, so they never trigger when playing the normal game. You can only watch the the H-scenes after unlocking them in the scene viewer.
I played like ~3 hours of the base game, never seeing any sex. Out of frustration I held down the fast forward button until I reached the credits and saw I had a dozen or so unlocked in the scene viewer. It's possible I fucked something up in the patching process, but I'm so frustrated I don't feel like troubleshooting it. This whole situation boggles the mind it's so retarded.

TAHelper is a generic regex-based text replacer that can clean up things like censorship and stuttering and generally rewrite text making it easier for MTL engines to translate.
