I'm curious, which canon material influenced this rivalry between Patchouli and Alice over Marisa? I know it's been stated that Marisa and Alice are friends and that Marisa constantly steels books from the SDM, but I find nothing on Alice x Pauchouli.

It's different. Get Cirno's obsession with frogs for example. It was clearly influenced by her interview on Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red. Meaning, there was a lead to it. Same with a lot of other trends like Suika being always drunk, etc.

But I can't find anything on Alice x Pauthouli. What I'm asking is if that was completely made up or there is some sort of material that the fandom is basing this on.

I don't feel like sifting through canon material right now, but I'm sure it must be stated that Marisa and Patchouli are reluctant acquaintances somewhere outside of just Witches Tea Party.
