This thread is for sharing things you've recently been interested in that don't have their own thread or even that do have their own thread but you think should be shared with a wider audience. All subjects welcome as long as they're /jp/-related, from entire games and series to one-off images you found in your feed.

Long and autistic essays about why the recent thing was so great are encouraged if said thing was particularly niche and you think more people would appreciate it. Or even non-recent things you're a fan of and haven't found a place to discuss up until now.

>The Shrinking Lolita Fashion Market In Japan Has Business Opportunities In China.
>2018年03月27日
>Lolita fashion, which was common in Shinjuku and Harajuku more than a decade ago, is now almost extinct. Shinjuku Marui ONE, which sell lots of the Lolita brands, was closed on September 25, 2013. “KERA,” a monthly magazine based in Lolita fashion, stopped publishing print magazines after the June 15, 2017 issue, and released only electronic versions. KERA’s sister magazine, “Gothic & Lolita Bible”, which is scheduled to be released on May 24, 2017, has also been cancelled. There are several reasons why Lolita fashion has declined in Japan. First, the so-called “meeting place” disappeared. In the past, there were fewer places to sit and chat like the clearing in front of the gap. Second, Harajuku Fashion is in decline. Harajuku changed from “the streets of the young people” to “adult streets”, and Lolita’s most popular place Takeshita Street has become a tourist destination for foreign tourists. Third, the first generation of Lolita fashion girls got married and went to job, they can no longer continue Lolita fashion. At the same time, the younger generation in Japan cannot offer much money and time on Lolita fashion as the first generation. Lolita is in decline in Japan while rising in China. There are many Chinese students who come to study in Japan because love of Lolita fashion. Recently Lolita fashion girls speaking Chinese can be seen frequently in Shinjuku, Harajuku. Lolita fashion popular in China for the following reasons: Firstly, China’s women fashion was cared about the surrounding views before but today’s China women who effected by global fashion want to show individual character through the clothes fashion. Lolita’s fashion style satisfies this demand and popular among young people. Second, Japan’s ACG culture (animation, manga, games and other subcultures) is well-known all-around China. Besides first-tier cities like Shanghai and Beijing, girls in Lolita dress can also be seen on the streets in second-tier cities such as Wuhan and Hangzhou. With the development of economy, the increase of personal income makes Chinese people have certain economic ability to purchase expensive Lolita clothes. Therefore, Japanese Lolita brand should spare no effort on exploring Chinese market while Japanese market is shrinking. The TIC’s new group, TOKYO business bridge (TBB), supports Japanese companies exploring market in China (Dalian).

Recently found out that Blasterhead probably killed himself in 2013 because he mismanaged the spiritual sequel to the VN ジサツのための101の方法, 末期、少女病 - Lyrical pop World's end-.
Apparently, he went through the budget too fast and couldn't pay the artists and the whole thing went to shit. It's a shame too since the script was complete and most of the voices were already recorded.

I've only known him for his music before now so this whole situation is wild to me. I just thought he lost interest like a lot of doujin artists do.
At some point he tried selling CDs to raise funds. So all that's left of 末期、少女病 are some PVs from before Duke went defunct and Blasterhead took over the project, and a couple of soundtracks for a VN that doesn't exist.

I guess the MMD scene is becoming quite repetitive, uninspiring and not as motivated and adventurous as it was in the early 2010s. It's getting hard to find great content with true effort put to it and not mere bandwagon. Also, it's creators making "great" (subject to debate as anyone has its own definition of "great") and inspired content who typically melt down, go on hiatus and leave pretty early. Showing support to them and leaving them kind words ain't enough (some are really of mentally fragile nature). Series and action videos aren't a thing anymore.

It'a also the same ones having ambitious and interesting projects who tends to cancel them pretty early and hastily hide them under the carpet just as if nobody will notice (too bad, I'm one the rare to watch the Japanese MMD scene pretty carefully) or because of an "unfortunate" accident ("oh noes my HDD crashed I has no backupz sorry i must cancel evrythnig bye").

Here's a selection I made recently of (mostly Touhou) works I consider with effort put to it with no bandwagon: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKgdFr9KN4QV8bSl2DKUc3mcFnb6C3j_h

Also, personal opinion here but I think creation isn't really encouraged when people who make MMD resources (models, stages, etc.) are so fan of locking them down so that only rubbish people with plenty of free time will spent time and effort only to be able to get them.

>>23340298
Yukkuri voice is hardly a sign of a refined work with a high production value. It pretty much kills and dumbs down any production which has no valid justification to feature it (anything that is not even made to be remotely funny). Also irritating overuse (not counting the classics and a good fraction of works which make actual good use of it).

I like the way anime looked in the late 80s/early 90s. I really hate certain artists' late 90s styles. I dislike early 2000s styles but they're quaint in a way. I really hate styles afterwards that aren't based on older manga.
I really hate the megatits obsession nowadays where like F cups are considered normal and a big breasted girl has breasts each larger than her head. I really hate the stick thin but big boobed style of the late 90s, but I like elongated more than short, chubby or SD styles that were more present in the 70s and 80s. The one thing I'm thankful for is that thighs and butts look nice nowadays. Anime girls used to never have asses.

I don't know what it is about modern storytelling either but it feels so empty. More now than ever, I feel I could read/watch some random ero series from more than a decade ago and get more story in a few chapters/episodes than a whole series of anything nowadays. Speaking of, why is everything so pornographic? All this stuff getting aired nowadays, they might as well take some old ero manga and animate them with a little censoring and a decent budget.

Probably in all Japanese media together there's no singular thing I like more than character songs (broadly construed, including all songs sung by characters that might not technically be character songs). There's something heartwarming about imagining the song being sung by its characters, almost independently of whether the show itself was any good, and often they encompass an underlying narrative or else express a character's personality and pride. This isn't to say that a lot of character songs aren't just sort of quickly manufactured gimmick syrup pop, but everything out there is going to be hit or miss.

Some of these songs are objectively great, others are just personal preferences, but some of my favorites off the top of my head are - the heartwarming embrace of My Home Town from Konosuba, the sensitivity and longing in You... and all its character image variants from Higurashi, the burning and falling meteors of FIRST LOVE SONG and distilled character arcs of Ashita no Atashi and Akatsuki no Sora from Symphogear, the whole-hearted pride in the definitely-not-IJN found in Kagamisaki and Hana no Nuisuisen from Kancolle, and countless "spirit of everyday" songs from half a hundred slice-of-life shows.

I've listened to a lot of songs but even now there are plenty of shows I watched long ago where I am only just now going through the character songs (some of which have become rather hard to find). Shows end, but their music continues. Just listening to one can transport you through time.

It was like Vocaloid covers before Vocaloid even existed. All the songs are really performed on a 386-DX PC running Windows 3.1. I'd really like to hear Vocaloid songs covered in this way, with MIDI and an antiquated Japanese speech synthesizer.

there's no real plot to puchimasu so once you have everyone's personality down the show makes as much sense as it's ever going to make, and also everyone's personality is probably turned up to 200% so it comes pretty quickly

i did read it before i watched it and i guess i've listened to some of the discography

I guess this is the best place to ask this.
When i went to Tokyo i was at a random idol group's concert, how come everyone agrees on a color for the penlights, are them smart penlights? The ones i brought just have a button to change color

it has, i'm not super oldfag but i feel like theres more consumption of content with idol and hololive threads instead of touhou theory discussion or anons doing things together. maybe i just have rose tinted glasses from like 6~ years ago.

Necrobumping. /jp/ is fast as hell these days. Slow generals are stunned because of the speed. There are several fake Touhou threads that only serves as bump folder and if you make a thread that they don't like they will simply bump the whole board and kill it.

Penguindrum used the 95 attacks as a motif 16 years later. Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 was probably inspired just as much, if not more, by the Kobe earthquake 13 years before, as it was by the great Kanto earthquake of 1923. I expect we will get doujins of mask-wearing girls within this year, with anime maybe having references a couple of years down the road.

I wish I could like denpa. I've tried it several times because it's an interesting culture and cute songs with darker themes are fun. However, in the end I just don't enjoy how it sounds. While I like Vocaloid voices, human denpa voices leave me cold.

>cute songs with darker themes
I'd say the vast majority of what gets a denpa label lacks anything remotely dark. Rather than "cute and dark" denpa much more often operates with "cute and erotic", though even that is a minority of songs. If I were to say what constitues the biggest part of denpa it would be "cute and funny", meaning the lyrics are quite humorous.

>> No.23446314

>>23445995
I still don't understand what separates denpa from anime music in general. It always just sounds like some anime or VN opening or character song but apparently those aren't denpa themselves.

Sounds like the 2hu fandom, but they don't spend all their time whining about discord drama and trannies and namedropping each other and stalking. They're at that point of a dead /vg/ general where they just post a bot-like post every minute. It's only a matter of time before they start posting cat dicks or something.

though i do wonder why rhythm game generals havent been moved to /vg/. can a general be too retarded even for /vg/?

>> No.23454166 [DELETED]

>>23454136
Well if the majority of people think it doesn't belong, then yes, whether it should be moved is up for discussion. It's not like they have any actual power to move it. Although if anything, the threads should just be deleted due to falling into the dramapile death throes of generals.

If you move to a totalitarian regime because of their lucrative content mines you must do your research and learn to speak carefully. You must learn to think like a dissident and not to let your guard down at any time. Consider every line tapped. Anyone you talk to many report you to the secret police. This is the mindset you need to cultivate to survive Twitter... Or just never post anything in English. That also seems to work.

I am a sucker for every Nico medley of any kind that comes along and this one from last weekish is no exception:

I started compiling the lyrics in an attempt to be able to sing this one from memory. One day I'll get there.

The latest episode of The Reisen is out. It's a series of MMD videos with Reisen as a stoic killer doing jobs for Erin, and it's pretty good.

The story won't make any sense if you start with the 4th one so watch the rest first.
