First of all, I hope everyone realizes by now that while there is one big central mystery that has probably been there from the beginning waiting to be solved, practically everything else is made up bullshit used to mess with us. That includes any possible human culprits. THe fact is, the scenarios themselves are magical, and the murders are magic as shown, and the only way Battler is able to deny them at all is resorting to completely absurd but theoretically possible arguments. For instance, his answer to how 6 eople died in a closed room with no possible way to interfere from the inside or outside: SMALL TIMED EPLOSIVES IN THEIR DRINKS!!! Even Beatrice was rolling on the floor on that one -- but she couldn't deny it directly. Is the anti-fantasy side REALLY satisfied with bs like that?

As for why Ange would deny magic....well, her family had all died and she felt Eva was responsible. She had very little reason to feel any of the 'love' that makes magic possible. In fact, she only begins to feel that again when she reads Maria's diary as it offers her the slim hope that her family isn't entirely lost to her.
