What do you answer when people ask you why you're learning Japanese?
I can't say it's because I fap to loli doujins and "interest in the culture" is not enough of an incentive to learn a language.

>> No.2338072

Second, if you're speaking in Japanese you should say it like you're Japanese. Not like you're a book.
Third, You are wrong by context. I guess you enjoy not seeing the entire picture, because it's obvious you don't understand how language works.
Four, Your examples are poor and wrong. If you want to make a solid argument then you should at least use your own understanding to prove your point rather than use incorrect similar examples that don't apply.
Five, Don't bother trying to argue with someone whose been doing this for longer than you've been alive.

Your advice is wrong, your understanding of Japanese is second-hand and weak, and you don't seem to understand how to use a spoken language.

There's so little context hear that I don't think it matters, if he was asked a question and gives a one line response, it's much different than being in the middle of an in depth conversation. I only googled to show that I am not alone. I understand how to use a spoken language. People say things differently, use different words, and have different beliefs in general about language. Anyone can act like you to make it seem like they are right, yet all you have been doing is saying I am wrong and sound unnatural. If you want to continue arguing, that's fine. wrong.
You can believe whatever the fuck you want to in how to use a language. That doesn't make you right.
Saying the sky is red because red is how you think blue looks is wrong.
Thinking because there are various uses for the same thing and you decide to use an older method for how it normally was used is still wrong.
Thinking because it's technically right makes it fine to use is wrong.
Believing you can try to weasel out of being wrong by making an everyone poops argument is wrong.
Ignoring the reasons why you are wrong and trying to prove you are right still shows you are wrong.
If you want to try to prove a point then take it back later when you are wrong, doesn't mean you aren't wrong. It means now you're just admitting you don't know.
Don't bother arguing when you're wrong. Just go away. Nobody needs your wrong advice. Don't give it. When someone shows you are wrong, admit it.
>I've heard plenty of Japanese people use ために rather than ため.

Wow, it's like you like to intemperate things completely wrong. It doesn't matter if you're learning them in any other way.
If you're relying on flash cards you aren't going to learn a language. There is no test, it's a language.
You aren't learning shit. You have to remind yourself because you aren't using the language. I don't care if you take your Heisig and say "gosh darn, I'm a going to get me one of those geisha girls and become one of them dern samurais." You simply aren't learning.

Flash cards are used for memorization so if I only used flash cards to learn Japanese, then I wouldn't be learning anything. FORTUNATELY, I supplement my education on the matter with OTHER MATERIALS. Just because you're using flash cards doesn't mean you've crossed a line in which it's impossible to learn the language. Also, 'intemperate' is an adjective, not a verb.

>Flash cards are used for memorization so if I only used flash cards to learn Japanese, then I wouldn't be learning anything.
wrong. That you're using flash cards to memorize is the problem with your "study". This isn't a test son. This is a language. You can be stupid with how you go about it all you want. You can feel proud with how much you learn.

Just keep your shit to yourself. Nobody wants you to make opinions on this subject. You are a student, don't try to sound like a teacher.

Also nice catch, it looks like you can look up words you didn't know in an online dictionary. Here I was thinking you'd not even go through that much effort. You've restored my faith in you not being a troll.

I'm sick of your pretentious bullshit. Whether or not you actually know the language as well as you say you do or not is fucking irrelevant. Why are you being suck a fucking prick to this guy? He doesn't know 'colloquial' Japanese. Who the fuck cares? He obviously knows more than the average denizen of /jp/, at least he's actually attempting to learn the language. And by the way, pal, 為に and 為 work both just as well as "I'm Peter," and "I am the one called Peter." Is one of them slightly more awkward? Sure, but whats the big fucking deal? He's a foreigner anyway, it's not like anyone is going to give a flying fuck.

To be honest, I haven't seen any real fucking content to your posts. It's nothing but 'you suck at japanese, i'm not listening to you. Learn english you faggot.' You haven't said anything even slightly productive, despite being pretty well organized. Sorry, organization ≠ content.

And now you're saying flashcards are useless? What the fuck man, I'm starting to wonder whether you've ever learned ANYTHING, language or not. How the hell you do expect to "use" or "practice" anything if you've never learned it? It's like me asking you what my cat's name is, yet you have never had any exposure to it. Are you a fucktard? There's no quick fix or shortcut to learn a language proper. I don't give a shit if you can read 2,500 Kanji. You expect to take in a second language like geography or economics? This isn't high school. It's the computer age, so I don't need to write them. Enough of this bullshit. Someone who relies on flashcards obviously doesn't write them enough. Grinding every character down hundreds of times following stroke order and comprehending radicals by recognition of meaning. You are not Japanese, you can't look at characters and remember how they are "used". You aren't using it as a language. Nor are you surrounded by it. Flash cards? How the fuck could you forget something if you've written it thousands of times already?

Since thread is tl;dr and I don't know if it's been thoroughly trolled yet, I'll give an answer.

On a whim. I wanted to learn a second language simply because I felt "Hey, there's a shitload of exotic cultures and languages out there! How bout getting in on some of that and culturing the fuck up?" "Why not Spanish or German?" you ask? Because, being a pompous prick, I'd get a smug sense of esteem every time I have to read a text comepletely unreadable to others. However, I skipped Chinese seeing as Jap at least has a 'letter' system to complement the Chinese characters. Fluency in Japanese also looks great on a resume. The thing is, other than giant robot cartoons and Japanese food, I'm not too into Japan. Then again, I'm ignorant to most other parts of the culture and I'll probably pick some up in my pursuit of the language. Why I'm on /jp/, then? I thought I'd find threads about asian chicks. Didn't know /a/ had a twin.
