I've never heard that take on the story before. Also, I kind of wonder where people would get that idea, since immediately following the battle Shinki talks with Reimu before Reimu leaves Makai. Then, later on in the ending, Shinki comes to Gensokyo and has a brief chat with Reimu before returning to Makai.
