I really like this part. It's a nice contrast from his main self who is a total leech who doesn't like to work and just comes up with ridiculous excuses on why he shouldn't. He's really a changed man that went through significant development.

Now it's his formless stories that sustain me.

Tamamori leaned on my shoulder.

The weird part about this one of the possible scenarios is Tamamori giving up and going back to the past to create to kill Minakami and the others, creating the last route. It's really utterly unbelievable the more I read about it, the fact that the author herself never really elaborated past a "they get caught by the army" made me think she never really thought about it much.

Tamamori still act a bit too tsun at times, though he never reject Minakami or anything which is nice. Well, I suppose it is his most defining characteristic.

I think if there was a 10-year epilogue Tamamori might be the kind of partner to lean on Minakami and squeeze him, kiss him quickly when no one's looking, and smile only for him in private moments. But he'd never be one for PDA or typical lovey-dovey stuff.

I never played it before but was very curious when it was popular like 10 years ago in the west so I watched one of the routes back then (I think it was Keisuke's?). I'm having fun so far, it's not a masterpiece but it's entertaining enough. Then again I'm kinda new to visual novels unless we count Ace Attorney as part of the genre.

Konoe was fine from what I remember. He had a personality and motives of his own, and while he wasn't necessarily the most interesting character, he wasn't a total doormat or blank slate either.

The rest of them are just plot devices. They are going to be on the bottom in any relationship, so they can't be too forward or proactive. They are always the victim that gets saved by the love interest, so they aren't self-sufficient either. (We're told they're good at stuff but they are always put in situations where they need rescuing, so it feels kind of meaningless.) To top it off, if you can't think of reasons why a character should like another one (hello Mink you fucking deadbeat), just make them a "naturally caring and empathetic good person" and never worry about why they are falling in love with any character in particular. You can write literal abusive relationships (fuck Mink) and it will work because the protag was written to be a nice person who doesn't think too hard about how they're being treated. See: many Otome protagonists.

In short, shit writing and characterization.

For Hanakisou, I played the voiced PSP version which meant that almost every line (everything except the prologue at the very start I think) was voiced, which was quite strange. Finished Togainu no Chi (I had not read it before). It was good but some of the writing felt a bit amateurish. I had hoped the routes would be a bit more distinct from each other, but they mostly follow the same sort of formula. Some of the fighting was a bit silly, e.g. Shiki being able to block a steel pipe with a katana. Also a bit lame how characters kept getting killed or dying offscreen in other routes, e.g. Keisuke in most routes, Shiki killing Rin, Nano killing Shiki. Favorite routes were Keisuke, Shiki (lol at the endings), and Nano.

Apparently part of it is that JAST outsources most of the programming work to Japan because it's cheaper. Japan in turn treats western releases as low priority. In the case of Nitro+, JAST have said that Nitro+ wants to work on one English project at a time.

Nitro+ likely completed their work on Sweet Pool, then moved to Totono before moving to TnC. Totono has apparently hit some other issue since then.

Mangagamer does almost everything themselves which is more expensive but means they can release stuff faster. Mangagamer needs to do it that way as VNs are their main source of income. JAST is just a small side business for JLIST.

Favourite routes were Motomi and Nano.
Motomi's route was the most satisfying from a storytelling perspective because things were revealed as part of the story not just an info dump at the end.

I watched the movie. Hashihime borrows some general concepts, but the execution ended up being totally different. Particularly the narrative does a much better job with the ambiguity, and you constantly wonder what is real or not. In Hashihime the last route feels like an afterthought

It does borrow some plot points though Hashihime seems to use straight up reincarnation, while the character in Dogra Magra seems to be a slave to his ancestor's memories that act like a curse. Route 5 seems the one that mostly borrow from it though, at least in the first part.
