Well, your japanese knowledge is already higher than that of the average /jp/edo.

Well, you go find a school that teaches Japanese. You will make friends who will motivate you to continue your Japanese learning and possibly find Japanese friends too, they might help you with your Japanese.

>> No.2305991

Try to learn as many kanji as you can, then read read read. After that, try to find japanese programming which contains japanese subtitles, especially with furigana.

And if you can, find a native japanese speaker and practice conversing with them.

Remember to look things up in the dictionary: http://www.edrdg.org/cgi-bin/wwwjdic/wwwjdic?1C

Don't forget to practice verb and adjective conjugations.

good luck aniki

I started with Rosetta Stone, realized that I wasn't really understanding anything after like 1-3 months of use (bad memory, cant recall when I stopped using it) and now I am using various sites to build my vocab and some books for grammar. So far it's much better. I am focusing more on the vocab than the grammar, but I feel like knowing words is more important...since you can puzzle out clues from context.

Oh, yeah, and I learned hiragana and futakana after I quit Rosetta Stone (cause rosetta stone is quite horrible in that respect).

Well, looks like "everyone" needs to learn more about Japanese before opening their mouths. Watashi is NOT feminine. It's the standard, polite way of speaking to complete strangers and superiors.
Atashi, on the other hand, is casual and feminine, sort of a female version of boku.
Finally, ore doesn't make someone look like an idiot or braggart. It's just completely improper to use it around anyone other than friends or family.

Did you even bother reading the post? When did it say it was exclusively dealing with casual speech? In real Japanese, you will NEVER be dealing with just formal or just casual speech. For example, the average Japanese college student will use sonkeigo towards his professors or administrators, keigo towards other employees there (like advisors or counselors) or people he's just meeting for the first time, then casual speech around friends and family. All of these different levels of politeness can and will be used within minutes of each other, and each level requires a different first person pronoun.
