I think that would be something inherently lewd, even if someone is doing for other reasons the outside world would classify it as lewd.
What I don't think that is necessary is to try and live to others expectations, if you do it because it gets you hard do it for yourself, if you do it because it helps to deal with body dysphoria, or just because you like the silky smooth feeling of clothing getting you encased the important part is still doing it for yourself.

So if you have a community that is already in that state, it is either impossible to change it or too hard to try. It likely means the people in leadership who saw it coming have already left, and you are all fucked without them.
