Once you've read a few VNs, you'll adapt to them. That means a few things:

-You'll love ctrl. The mentally of "never skipping unread text" won't last long, given the padding issues the medium is known for.
-You learn to skim through text. Stuff isn't that interesting? Speed up. Some go so far to even completely ignore narration in some games, where narration padding is particularly bad.
-You'll skip most ero scenes, and only read those you "use". This will make routes a lot shorter. Main exception would be ero heavy plot games, where that can go wrong.
-You won't even read all routes. In many games it's just not worth it, even regardless of potential route enforcement. (->ctrl is your friend) Enforcement is rarely well done and necessary. Way too many games enforce a route last, because you are supposed to read it last. But you don't need to know anything about the previous routes whatsoever.

All of this is basically entirely necessary if you wanna be a little experimental, which you should be. That way you'll find the best things.
Of course, the games will still be long. It's easy to underestimate how long they are, given how many get released. They are usually full games, that'll last you a while.

>> No.22968700

>>22968504
When does that start happening? I've been reading VNs for three years now and I don't do any of that, nor do I ever intend on doing it.
If I find some content boring or not worth reading I'd rather just drop the entire game, skipping through everything and pretending you actually finished the game sounds pretty retarded, might as well drop the entire medium if that's how you feel about the majority of eroge.

>> No.22968836

>>22968504
Well that's a bit silly. I've played way too many games with the "it'll probably get much better later on" mindset and suffered from that when they've failed to meet even that expectation, skip or no skip. Games that have most of their content being light-hearted SoL with maybe minor foreshadowing in the mix, finally ending with a shorter and more serious real deal part are usually the worst offenders in that regard. Especially if the former isn't good enough to beat a good moege, and you already know beforehand shit's gonna go down, so you'd just prefer the plot to get on with it. Nowadays I try to prevent myself from indulging in sunk cost fallacy and just drop boring games altogether. Much better to just play stuff you'd enjoy instead rather than power through a game in the hopes it'll become good.

>> No.22968859

I read about 20 times faster than most of the rest of you - with the exception of a few bibliophiles. What is a true chore, taking up tens of hours for you, might very well only be a short eight to ten hours for me. Reading that fast - whether in English or Japanese - gives me a greatly different perspective than a lot of the others here.
My stamina for reading in general and reading VNs in particular is far higher than the rest of you. Fundamentally, the idea of breaking a VN up over the course of weeks or months is alien to me, since even the longest ones will only take me about thirty hours (even in a busy week, I can usually manage to squeeze that in during breaks and meals).
Because VNs aren't drawn out for me, I don't suffer through the slice of life and daily scenes like some of you do. I can sit back and enjoy what I'm reading without feeling any stress whatsoever from the reading itself, as long as the VN isn't too bad. In addition, even scenes too difficult to read for the average VN-player are relatively simple for me to read, so i don't get significantly stressed out by that factor either.
One of the reasons people tend to get tired of VNs is a lack of stimulation due to low reading speed. I read fast enough that a good VN's stimulation will be close to constant, whereas a slow reader will sometimes come to feel 'in-between' scenes that are meant to be short and informative as painful and long.
The act of reading in itself can bring me something close to sexual pleasure if what I'm reading is interesting. The reason I like chuunige is because to me, the stimulation from a good chuunige is actually better than sex. There is always something going on and that something is usually meant to shake up the emotions or engage the intellect. Since, for me, reading something like this really does give me so much pleasure, I can honestly say that concerns about length don't bother me at all, lol.

My computer is fine and surprisingly the game performs fine in spite of this, although I feel sorry for any poor fool who tries to run this on a laptop.
Minimum requirements Pentium 4 my ass
Somehow every other game doesn't have these symptoms, the worst aside from this I've ran into is a game that simply resets its window resizing after unlocking the screen.
Just a "special" game that decides to say "fuck power efficiency, unused cpu is wasted cpu" and decides to ignore window manager events that every other game responds to just fine.

>> No.22972099

>>22972049
> none that I've played has eaten more than just 20% of my CPU load
20% of how many cores? The way Windows displays cpu load considers 100% of all cores to be 100%. If you have 2 cores that's nothing, if you have 8 cores and a game idles at 20% that's a problem.
Nukitashi is usually, combined, using around 15% of my 8 core system when idle (1 core is 12.5%), so more than 1 core in aggregate, but none of the cores are actually fully utilized so no lag
I used Spy++ to look into the blackscreen problem and found it was basically sending itself timer and WM_PAINT events at 24hz or 30hz or something.
Most games use almost no cpu when idle, but this one is probably wasting all its time in a message loop needlessly repainting.

Definitely an abuse of the message system and an astounding hack for a newish game that's supposed to support Windows 10 out of the box.
Haven't found another game that constantly sends itself messages at such a high rate when idle. Most don't send any since messages are for responding to user interaction, like when you mouseover and click

>> No.22972178

Maybe it would be better on 8/7, now that I think about it maybe turning off some exploit mitigations will lower CPU usage since it's DX9. Game explicitly supports 10 though.
But receiving hundreds of window messages a second when idle is ridiculous and certainly shouldn't have anything to do with the newer OS.
I guess they decided to use the window system to time their shit instead of doing anything reasonable?

I don't think dealing with unlocking and locking, and turning off and on a screen, is something that changed in Windows 10 either. Might have something to do with being on display port, or DPI scaling.
Pretty much all titles deal with it transparently. 美少女万華鏡 gives you a notification and resizes back to default, but again no black screen and works perfectly.

the previous game had bad endings for each of the girls and some unavoidable stuff. If you're going to read it, there's a release of the manga called JINKI-真説 that compiles only the volumes that are not remade into the game's plot. It doesn't matter that much since Tsunashima only cares about drawing cute girls and robot fights, but the VN will be confusing at times without it.

Which ones specifically?
The reason lots of stuff doesn't run on Win10 is because of overly intrusive copywrite protection. Often you can find a crack or even occasionally an official patch to fix it.
Obviously super old stuff can be an exception (e.g. 16 bit), but that's more a reason to run DOSBox or a Windows 98VM than a reason to not use Win10.

No, that's a pain in the ass and running something like 98 or even XP on a modern machine may not be a very pleasant experience either in terms of drivers.
Dedicated retro rigs are a thing though and can be nice, but not necessary for eroge which are glorified spreadsheets and aren't too hard to run right compared to old 3d games.

That's a nonsensical refutation. I never claimed 12 year olds were completely done learning kanji, just that they knew enough kanji to read a typical eroge, which are mostly full of easy kanji.
Obviously they keep learning kanji so they can read actual literature and technical material, not so they can read typical light novels and eroge.
The screenshots of Love Destination that have been posted certainly didn't have any kanji a 12 year old wouldn't know.

Yeah, they're all great. Just a warning though, depending on your tolerance level, the stories might be a bit too heavy to be relaxing since they all start with the protagonist and heroine(s) being depressed/isolated and bonding over that. But if you're the right type of person, it's great 癒し系. In terms of both story and porn, they definitely go above and beyond what's expected for nukige, along with the circle's other titles.

The first three have the most story, while the ones after that (with two heroines each) are a little bit lighter with more focus on porn.

Do you think it would impair workflow much to just use a texthooker and copy/paste terms into my browser to use Nazeka on them? I haven't used one in a long time, so I don't remember if that's how most people would look up terms or not (translation add-ons aside). Moreover, have any advice for making this method work well? It is my goal to accrue more vocabulary by reading from raw texts without mining for an SRS or doing anything like RTK. As it stands, I just look at the kanji and think of simple mnemonics for the words using the radicals and readings as a base. I wonder if even that is a waste of time in the grand scheme of things.
>>23004701

From what I looked nazeka is like a browser version of TA so I think TA is more convenient but it depends on what you prefer.
And I acquired all my knowledge by just reading so I couldn't give you other advice than just read and read as in my opinion learning a language is almost just practice; as you read you will learn the kanjis naturally so don't worry about it too much.

>> No.23005685

Not that person.
I'd say it's easy to sum everything I believe on this matter up as follows:
the more you practice reading, the better you'll get at reading.
You can read on grammar, use mnemonics, make any sort of cards, etc., and in any case, you'll remember some stuff, and you'll forget other stuff. Some sentences will make sense right away, others might not.
Any specific details on the method you might want to apply should be entirely up to you, since it's impossible to infer a priori what will work for anybody.
If you ask anybody, they'll most likely recommend the method they used, but that doesn't necessarily imply it's the best possible method.
Therefore, trust yourself before others.

It's long sure but the vocabulary isn't very complex. Because of the setting there are almost no loanwords or slang so you can get by with just a normal dictionary. None of the characters wax philosophical or get into the nitty gritty of social or civil management, it really never gets that complex.

What would be a big problem for you however would be all the fucking Chinese. Every character has 2 or 3 different Chinese names on top of their normal name and Chinese geography is brought up constantly. Chinese literature and history is also sometimes brought up. Your question is misplaced since Koihime is almost definitely not above your reading level but yeah unless you are already familiar with RotTK you might be doing a lot of googling just to see who/what/where the characters are talking about.

I could never replicate that one 6 hour long fap session's culmination I once had. Literally felt that ripping noise they used to put in hentai OVAs inside my head. Had a couple of seconds where I almost lost conciousness. In retrospect, I think that was just heightened blood preassure and a couple of days of nofap due to preoccupation. I wonder what my nuts would be like after those couple of days if I can cover my whole chest in spunk fapping each day.

町ぐるみの罠 and 最終痴漢電車
Now if someone can rec me something similar that doesn't start off as rape, and is just the woman being slutty I would love that.
