What is going on with SP and their release schedule? If they started to release one title per month they would need exactly 34 months to get rid of their backlog (HRPG, DLsite and the occasional EVN trash not counted), but that isn't going to happen and considering that they will announce at least 10 new licenses this year, not even one release per month would help them out of this situation.

The Senren Banka release I got uses some kind of weird fucking Steam emulator. First time i encountered one of those. I know that some video game scene releases make use of Steam resources to launch, but this one literally connects to their servers and syncs with steam cloud.
I know because as soon as I switched that off, my save file+settings were gone when it took effect and I had to retrieve them from Steam cloud in order to get it back.

Hate when releases connect with Steam. I know valve couldn't give any less of a shit but you never know when it'll backfire one day.

You’re right. I’m not saying they should stop brining those trashy moe eroges, the majority of VN payers are into them after all and that’s the business, even in Japan. What I’m trying to say is there’s no variety when it comes to VNs with powerful plots. I can count the number of VNs I played in the last decade with my two hands. For example, why is Minikui Mojika no Ko isn’t picked yet? Or Tokyo Necro?

It has always been that way and applies to any industry. If shit sold then there would be more of them but beyond the odd exception most plot heavy titles flopped. After all these years I do wonder how much they paid for that exclusive access and how much Nitroplus regrets accepting that contract. At the time it probably seemed like a good deal for them but they ended up missing out on the steam boom and having titles stuck in limbo for years or nearly a decade in the case of Sumaga due to JAST being JAST.

There are a few reasons why:
1. Nobody can pay better than JAST thanks to J-list money
2. Nitro+ is popular enough and has enough money from the Japanese sales and their DMM gacha

Yeah, I meant for VNs, I doubt anyone would bother going through the effort of removing the steam DRM for a visual novel.
Although most VN uploads from official releases are of the DRM free versions of the games from JAST, MG, Denpa, Nekonyan, Sol Press ect so I guess it's not that common. A lot of releases don't even bother using steam DRM and just slap the .exe in the folder so in those cases it isn't even needed.

No, it's pretty easy. If you can speak Japanese you are creating an additional unnecessary workload in choosing to translate from French and then cross-reference the Japanese to make sure it's right instead of just translating from the Japanese in the first place.

Seems SB peaked yesterday at 1,439 putting it only behind Nekopara 3's 2,571 peak.
We'll see how well it holds those numbers since that's what matters most for long term sales but it's off to a great start.

I do wonder if Yuzusoft/Sprite will begin to hire Hikari Field and Nekonyan to do Chinese and English translations on launch for their newer titles.

It bothers me that TroubleDays releases on Steam with an off-site patch for ero content but they don't show anywhere any previews of that ero content; they just expect you to buy it in faith that it'll be good.

It keeps the nuance of the original text, its a good read. The language might be too simple at times but that's not a problem, Mahoyo isn't full of Nasu spasms like Tsukihime and Fate/stay night were.

I don't even know what a mediocre translation would look like. Translations are black and white. It's either deleting lines, mistranslation, removing nuance, and localizing, or its not. The latter is French.

In the end it's still basically translating something then translation checking it. My guess is the person who knows Japanese is lazy and doesn't want to do the heavy lifting, so they're just going to point out mistakes they notice. But if they're that lazy, then I don't trust them to do a good job.

The french TL have all of that. Missing lines, mistranslations are found every week on the error section of their discord and it's not about removing nuance at that level the french translation sounds fucking flat.

Senren Banka managed to hit 1450 concurrent users this morning for a new peak. That is beyond more mainstream releases like Steins;Gate and approaching Danganronpa 2's launch peak of 1632. It is up to 1073 total reviews, of which 52 are in English. Obviously the Chinese sales are going to overshadow its Western performance, but it should still be tracking to be another successful Western release even if it isn't nearly the same degree of success as in China.

For what it is worth, reviews to date of the rest of NekoNyan's catalogue.
Fureraba - 87 English reviews, 163 total reviews (26 reviews the first week)
Sanoba Witch - 197 English reviews, 820 total reviews (243 reviews the first week)
Hello Goodbye - 14 English reviews, 27 total reviews (2 reviews the first week)
Sankaku Renai - 93 English reviews, 113 total reviews (25 reviews the first week)
Aokana - 228 English reviews, 947 total reviews (144 reviews the first week)
Senren Banka - 25 English reviews, 1073 total reviews thus far

Based on the Steam achievement leak nearly every Visual Novel had an at least 20 reviews per review ratio (with titles not having a Kickstarter or bundle averaging 20:1 to 45:1), which makes seeing 1000+ reviews already look exceptionally impressive. Although it is difficult to tell if this review ratio holds with titles that are particularly Chinese heavy because of a lack of such VNs during the Achievement leak. Nevertheless, it is likely destined to be one of the best selling VNs on Steam, especially for a full length R18 title.

It was an older title without any name recognition by a generally unknown developer and nothing that immediately sticks out. It isn't too surprising that it disappointed, comparable titles from other developers have routinely struggled. It's probably why NekoNyan put Melty Moment on indefinite delay in favor of IxShe Tell.

But IxShe Tell is as vanilla as Melty Moment.
I just don't get their logic replacing one vn with another similar one.

>> No.23031808

>>23031688
It's more about age than content. A lot of people apparently buy VNs solely based on the art, especially on steam, so it makes more sense for companies to release new titles with nice shiny art.

Melty Moment doesn't look too bad but I do think it looks a little washed out and "outdated" compared to IxShe Tell, so I can understand why they'd want to prioritise the newer title.

Flowers 3

Did SLC quit or what? Esclayer R and Rance 01 are being worked on by the other Alicesoft programmer AFAIK and them already beta ready and Quest not is kinda strange.

Probably more testers since the game is fucking huge. Not sure about Rance 01/02, but Escalayer's programming is being done by BDH (which is done now).
Also it's not that strange since I imagine Rance 01 is much simpler than Quest and it is a lot shorter.
