I want to but dropping 150-200 for a controller just to try it out is a bit offputting. I wish there was more than just DDR here.

>> No.22926980

So I visited las vegas arcade in London. I suppose you really need to bring headphones with you because it is so loud in there otherwise you won't hear shit. Even with headphones I can't imagine how crazy you need to be to play there for more than an hour. There were some hardcore-looking asians playing taiko and one was banging a piano keyboard-themed cab pretty good.

I liked Museca, its gimmick is pretty cool. Taiko was in a pretty good state I guess but the cab sticks are terrible and feel like worn-out heavy clubs compared to bachi. The sensitivity and the feel of the drums is very comparable to taiko force lv5.
I really wanted to try out sdvx and pop'n but sdvx wasn't working and popn cab was set so loud I was worried about my ears. That said now I really want a popn controller at home. What is the best way to get one nowadays? I remember someone mentioning buying dao asc and better buttons from some korean site.

If you do, go Yuan for SDVX. His controllers are a really good value. Very sturdy construction and unbreakable encoders for the knobs.

Define "actual". Problem is there just doesnt seem enough demand. Even the times its open you often get maybe 6 people there, and those are Friday and Saturday evenings, where youd expect the biggest turnout to begin with. Doesnt help its a little out the way for most people.

>> No.22940495

>>22940379
There definitely is demand, especially when you incorporate the e-Sports crowd, and it's worked in other places before (Krefeld, Amsterdam, Paris, Stockholm), so I just can't help but think that GameOn must've done a couple of things wrong, especially concerning promotion.

>> No.22940637

>>22940495
Their promotion/marketing was kinda shit, no question, but my point is there is barely demand for arcade games in Germany, and I dont think the places you listed go against that. Only Krefeld is in Germany, and unless theres another venue Im not aware of they have a gaming bar focussed on PC & console games that also happens to have a Supernova.

Now, whats interesting is after the closure in march it looks like the GO machines will be in a Lasertag place, open all week. Not sure how pricing will be handled, but it might be an improvement.

Do you have proof other than some chink's "feelings" and subsequent list of nonsensical timing windows in ms when the games run in frames?

Cause I know a guy who dug into the game files and each song has a file that includes its individual windows, and while Greats, Goods, and Bads might all change, Cools were always 2 frames.

>> No.22943695

>>22943653
I hate that chink list as much as you do.

>Cause I know a guy
You should introduce him to me.

IIDX and pop'n have chart-defined windows for everything except the best judgement, so you can't get them from just the chart files. It happens to always be 2 frames in IIDX and 3 frames in pop'n (barring some really rare glitch I heard about that makes it 4 frames on some cabinets, but I don't have firsthand experience with that). You can frame step through any lineout video if you want to see for yourself. The number of MAX scores in pop'n compared to IIDX should also be an indicator that pop'n has a wider COOL window.

>> No.22943793

>>22943695

I honestly just want to get to the bottom of it either way. Pop'n Cool window timing has been nebulous knowledge for so long. There's so much misinformation out there.

I'll take your word on the Max scores. I don't have access to eAmuse scores to verify. Makes sense though.

I just switched back to IIDX after maining Pop'n for a few years and I definitely feel it might be tighter. I'm biased though, since I want the silly Fisher Price looking kiddie game to be Bemani's hardest game and it's so close I think 3 frames over 2 might drop it down.

Another factor that probably prevents pop'n from feeling so much easier with its 50% wider windows is that IIDX note spacing is frame rounded in the same way that the timing windows are, so even though it's fucky looking, it's at least presenting the player with accurate information. pop'n note spacing is "too accurate" and based on the millisecond timestamps in the chart file, despite the timing windows still being frame rounded, so there's actually a small disconnect between the positions of the notes and the true judgement timing.

The grind on IIDX 11's is so fucking bad honestly. I think it's honestly gonna take me a year or two to reach early 12's.

I'm sort of taking a break from it for the time being. It's been difficult to make good progress. I've decided to try to learn 1-handing instead for right now. About a month in and I can clear most 8s and some early 9's.

I haven't entirely dropped practicing normally but I'm sort of focusing on the one-handing for the time being. I'm definitly noticing how helpful it is for certain segments when I play normally. Especially if any of you play Taka S, I'd say you should learn how to do this. It's pretty helpful for heavy scratching and parts that scratching is difficult on, even if it takes some time to learn. Pinky scratch can sometimes make my left hand feel really stretched when I'm being forced to hit lots of buttons at the same time.

God man. As much as I like Konami's games, they really need to learn how to balance the difficulty properly. SDVX at least seems like a step in the right direction. IIDX comes at you like a fucking wall when you get into the late game.

Some players in other rhythm games communities suggested it to me. This isn't some dumb attempt to be a special snowflake; this is a skill that a lot of higher level IIDX players have said I(or people in general)should learn. And in practice it's shown me that it's a useful thing to know. I get better scores on some songs with sections that are awkward to Taka S on after learning how to do it. And even if it wasn't useful to know at this point in time(which it is), it'd be a skill I'd need later regardless. It isn't time wasted.

Also, you know that 11 is just below 12, the highest level charts IIDX offers, right? Objectively speaking, they're not low level charts at all.

One-handing is necessary if you want to be good at scratch charts, and useful for other sections, but it's not going to help you much with the increasing density of regular 11s and 12s.
You can mostly bypass one-handing by simply increasing your reading skill enough to have some breathing room.
Plus, progress on 11s comes really easy once the ball starts rolling. I remember almost nothing from my "grind" with 11s apart from the very beginning.

>> No.22949323

Well, I never said it was going to help me learn to clear denser charts. I know they're apples and oranges, but it's still something good to know how to do. Like I said, it's not really time wasted.

Also, I don't know about that last bit. Player experience and difficulty is a bit subjective. What applied to you might not necessarily apply to others. You shouldn't assume as such.

No, it's dumb amerifat fanboyism at work. FEFEMZ holds a lot less world records than Chris, but only because he's never had easy access to arcade with DDR and only plays on rare occasions, while Chris plays DDR every other day for many hours. It's a classic case of "grind monkey vs top player". Not that Chris isn't high above (almost) literally everyone else, but it's telling how FEFEMZ gets low effort WRs almost every time he does play. Recently he came back for exactly one day of DDR play after a year of absence and casually got two SDPs on 18s that Chris couldn't crack afterwards despite trying for several days. His 994k record on Over The Period (the only high level chart on which he did anything resembling grinding, and even then nowhere near enough to the effort Chris usually spends) is practically untouchable, simply because no other dance game player in the world has the ridiculous crossover consistency that he does.
Chris is still #2 in overall skill, but even that may not last. Hibiki from Japan has recently taken a few records from him, including an impressive first-ever 990k on Valkyrie Dimension, I can definitely see him pulling well ahead of Chris if he keeps improving.

Since we can have a more rational discussion here than on facebook:

What is the logic behind choosing Prey CSP? It could have made sense in a format where its best-of instead of combined EX, but since its combined EX Prey has some notable disadvantages - namely the low total EX count, and the low EX difference between the players (moreso because they've flagged in and MFCed it, respectively). So, if the goal is to win KAC, what benefit did Brosoni have in picking it over something with a larger EX score and more potential for EX variation?

If so how come there isnt an option like this for rootage in bemani patcher? It would be such a godsend
