I have made 0 progess on Uni's outfit, but I am talking to Lovely Dollie and she says she can fix the face-up so that'll be cool. Being the retard I am, I got a blonde wig in the wrong size, but they threw in a free skateboard. Also got a nice sweater and replaced her DDP hands with MDD size. Thinking I might try a skater look since only baggy clothes will fit her anyway, but the skateboard isn't even the right scale.

I was never able to get her right leg in properly so it's still loose, and then her right foot popped off when taking off a sock so now that's loose too.

Trial and error and a lot of practice -- and I still don't think I'm that great at it, so thank you very much! For me I think the smallest details make a big difference. The hands in particular- in people photos, you don't just have them floating in space (action shots aside!), they're gesturing, or pointing, or laying flat. Practice and then looking back over your photos to see what works and what doesn't helps, too- "ah, shit, I should have done this" and "oops, shit, I didn't even notice that" are common things I find myself saying.

I think seeing a lot of photos from other people in this thread has helped, too, looking back. Seeing so many good photos, it helps me figure out what I need to work on. More than anything, just taking photos and trying not to get too hung up on your mistakes will help, at least in my opinion.

(Googling photography tips helps, too. There's so much shit I didn't THINK about in the beginning!)

I do suggest putting some body tape on the spine where the back of the dress clasps together if your doll has a L bust. The blue edge outside the lining may be pressed against the dolls back since the dress is tight and stretchy

It isnt iron on, it's definitely been printed directly on the fabric. The base color of the fabric appears to be white, so the entire thing seems to just be an image that was printed onto fabric, which is exactly how the chinese company I've ordered from does it

I got some tacky from hobby lobby too in case the eraser didnt work but I had read that the tack can leave residue while the eraser doesnt. They were both about the same price for the same amount anyways

Got some of those 1/4 size shoes from Fatiao on Etsy, fits my DDP well if a little tight. Compared to my self made clown shoes. Might mod them for Uni, but would this material look okay painted a different color(purple)? The pink color could work, and the purple color was out of stock.

Do you know what material it's made of? You could try dying them if it's a material good for dying. They look light enough that the pink shouldnt effect them much

I've had tack in my dolls eyes for years no issues. The "residue" issue with tack is if you play with it all the time. It will absorb oils from your fingers and as it breaks down the oils will leak out. that's why tack used over and over again to hang up posters leave spots and leak into drywall. NOT an issue when setting plastic doll eyes on vinyl.

Other than some youtube videos of questionable quality, no. I just look at how to sew normal sized things and make my own patterns based on that but with a smaller size. You can buy doll sized patterns but that kind of defeats the point for me at least. Long story short, no I'm completely winging it.

Hey anons, do you know of a place to buy like.. plain doll-scale barrettes and hairclips things like that? I want to customize my own but I have no idea where to find ones that haven't already been dressed-up. I know Cool Cat has headbands at least, but I'm at a loss where to get barrettes that aren't humongous and made for people.

Lomi's Playground is a decent youtube channel for sewing doll stuff, and she shares a bunch of free patterns she uses in the videos. A 1/4' quilting foot helps for small hems. A straight-stitch presser plate should also help prevent fabrics getting pulled into the machine, but I haven't gotten one. Just do a bunch of random crap to develop your skills and get a feel for how stuff works. Also sewing classes at your local fabric store if they offer. Sometimes you can just go in and ask for advice on how to do this or that.

DollyBird routinely has DD patterns, occasional MDD and MSD as well. They’re very easy to follow. You can try using the digital scans someone linked for just reference, or search out the actual books which have full scale pattern pieces

I got a doll jacket off mandarake with a fur collar and it came in looking like a stringy mess. Five seconds with a slicker brush and it's glossy again. I keep finding doll-related secondary uses for the weirdest things.

I'm trying to put together Uni's wingcape, but it's a real pain in the butt. The collar part overall shape seems to look okay now, but when I attach the wing, the weight of the wire droops it out of shape. I figured I could just wrap the wire around her neck or something, but I need more wire, and would need to redo it all with a longer piece since it's been trimmed too short.
