I posted a video showing a few cards a few months ago but don't care to find it. Only one who has a part of the deck is ciaran (to be precise cards covering kanji for the first 5 levels). The newest version I haven't shared yet and don't really plan to until I finish the whole thing. Writing kanji is kind of a pain in the ass and it's not like you really need it for anything so I'm struggling to find the motivation.

The book I am reading is introducing new vocab with both the kana and Kanji representations, but the Kanji is a bit too overwhelming for me as I am just beginning. Should I focus just on kana for now? From what I am told, people learn Hiragana, then Katakana, and then finally Kanji?

Well my anime list is what I have watched (and mostly anime mined) in the last two years or so. Seems it's above 1800 episodes which isn't a crazy amount but it's not little. And my VNDB has 20 entries, and that's just what I remember having read. I have definitely read into more than 30 VNs although, yes I have only finished 1. It doesn't make the input I got undone though.
Now the more important thing is that anime and VNs aren't all of my input. I get a lot more especially from audio books and Youtube. Trying to quantify all this undocumented shit is stupid.

Sentence cards are simply less advantageous than anime cards/word context cards. They take much longer and are less effective, they are simply not suited to the flashcard format. It's why Matt spent 2 hours a day on flash cards. Other sentence cards users are the same spending ridiculous amount of time on reviewing sentences they already know.
It's not fun and you lose time to actually consume Japanese. That's the problem with sentence cards.

I definitely think that listening is more important for beginners, but they have to reach a certain vocabulary and grammar level to really profit off of listening properly imo. So learning some words and reading some manga will make starting to listen less intimidating. I would say start seriously listening after about a month of study, but at least do some passive listening through anime and stuff before that too.
