Congrats on getting through the easiest one to pass.

Like >>22559501 said, lower your speed. The game has crossovers from even the lowest levels. People just play so damn fast that they don't realize they're actually there.
Sunkiss Drop ESP or Electric Dance System Music DSP are a couple songs with plenty of crossovers that you should be able to get through.
Doublestepping can only get you so far and will hold you back from higher level play.

Another point to add, if you have access to Pump it Up give that a try. Once you get over level 7 the game absolutely forces you to crossover. The actual movements don't necessarily translate over to DDR but the mindset does. I used to always doublestep until I started playing Pump.

Another way to force yourself to learn crossovers is to try playing doubles. The charts will really throw you off if you're not crossing over.

The more I go out and experience club culture where all the music from rhythm games is inspired from (except for some of the videogame inspired stuff that slips its way into each release) the more I don't want to play rhythm games and the worse I become.

So, in essence, if you want to be good at rhythm games don't actually try and seek out what these games came from. Even if you're a basic bitch who just loves EDM it will ruin your motivation if you start actually seeing EDM shows.

Rhythm game music needs very different qualities than club music. They can overlap but are completely different in purpose. When I started playing rhythm games I was put off by a lot if the music since it was pretty different from what I listen to but now I have a lot of rhythm game songs I love playing to, but would not listen to outside a game and also dont miss most of what I listen to because I realize it wouldnt make for fun charts anyways.
