It's normal. Most eroge have way higher resolution than what they ship. Usually twice of the resolution shipped. That's why there are actually a bunch of "HD" re-releases in the first place, and why a bunch of 800*600 games got twice of that in a western release. In other words, Sorceress Alive is probably 1080p at most in the game.

Having higher art resolution can be interesting if you only want to show a cut of a CG without making it blurry (though way too many VNs just make it blurry by only zooming in), for promotional reasons and so on. Also I don't think it's much more effort on the artist's side.
Due to how VN engines commonly suck, they usually choose a "save" resolution and simply don't support anything below it, while using shitty upscaling for higher ones. Yuzusoft's first 1080p release also shipping with the 720p assets kinda showcases this issue. I'm sure this could be handled better, but if the main audience in Japan doesn't care enough, and they also try to save money on discs needed to ship the game, it's not going to change.

Finished Nanatsuiro Drops.

The premise is pretty simple: the protagonist accidentally drinks something that turns him into a plush toy at every sundown, so he has to get the main heroine's help in finding 7 magical doodads that allow another character to prepare a medicine that restores him to normal, all the while hiding his identity from muggles to prevent his change from becoming permanent.

My biggest beef with the game is that the setting was ridiculously underdeveloped. It’s not like I was expecting a thick plot considering the initial premise and overall lighthearted atmosphere, both of which I liked, but the game still somehow managed to land below my expectations in that regard: nothing in the setting gets fleshed out or explained apart from the bare minimum required for the plot to work. I mean come on, you just don’t mention there’s a magical realm and then never show any of it, or at the very least do something to establish it further. The スピニア (mahou shoujo of the setting) don’t receive any sort of explanation for why they even exist as a job or what they do apart from the fact that they collect star droplets that appear in regular world, while the latter are also just plot coupons that happen to be required for the protagonist’s medicine for him to return to normal. I guess we’re meant to assume they’re used for making all sorts of magical things, but whatever these things happen to be, are never mentioned even once as far as I recall. Unless I completely blacked out while reading. The competing otherworldly schools two of the heroines technically represent only get mentioned by name, and that’s it. At one point the other magical girl heroine Nona is surprised that apparently the other school’s スピニア grow wings for flying, but it’s not like the player can even give the slightest shit, because that’s literally the only part in the entire game where it’s even mentioned that there’s something different between said schools that are mentioned by name only.

Plot advancements in general and the whole stardrop catching business where most of the magic happens often felt lackluster as well, because every time the characters come up against a wall, there exists a convenient magical book that always just tells them the right spell for the occasion. The same plot advancement crutch gets used almost constantly, from small problems to big endgame drama issues. That, or the teacher preparing another medicine. Why does it always have to be books that solve or explain everything? Is it an Unison Shift trademark? Or I might just be an overly pedantic retard for even complaining about these sort of things that you’re probably not supposed to think about, but regardless: considering the magic stuff is the main thing that constantly pushes the plot forward I really wished the game would’ve fleshed out everything more, even in a lighthearted manner. Because just watching the characters chase after generic plot coupons isn’t very entertaining. Even the supposed competition between two of the heroines hardly has any presence in the plot, apart from seldom being a drama catalyst for other being the better magical equivalent of a janitor, I guess.

Side heroine routes felt kind of wonky because the game is so heavily focused on Sumomo that she even butts into their routes for additional drama: Nadeshiko feeling guilt for falling for the same guy as her best friend, and Nona thinking that the protagonist likes Sumomo instead + being sad for getting absolutely trashed by the latter’s inherent talent. Nona herself was alright and the only of the three heroines who hails from the other realm, however as previously mentioned, the game doesn’t really ever bring up the otherworldly stuff or background info so her character is basically just a proud heroine archetype you’ve probably seen countless times already. No backstory apart from the fact that she’s an otherworlder who takes the competition and representing her school quite seriously. A big missed opportunity for establishing both her character and the setting more. Nadeshiko was even worse: her entire character through the game boils down to just “muh Sumomo”, and she doesn’t really manage to stand out as a heroine of her own at all. I kept expecting her trait of constantly breaking things to be foreshadowing for something later on, especially since it’s repeated several times but never really played as a joke, but no, apparently it was just me overthinking things. Side heroine routes in general suffered from being mostly drama-driven for aforementioned reasons, where the proper confession / start of relationship was shoved towards the very, very end, so it’s not like you can really enjoy them for ichaicha either. Sumomo route was much better in this regard because the relationship actually starts relatively early after the common route, not that it was any less drama-focused.

Production values were pretty alright though. Even the numerous side character students who barely have any plot presence get sprites, and the protagonist gets voice acting while transformed into a plush toy. Music wise I loved they remixed the triplets’ theme from Komorebi, and their surname added a nice touch for what likely happened to them after that game. Said games are completely unrelated though if anyone was wondering, and it’s just a small reference for reference’s sake.

Overall, a game I can recommend if you find Sumomo extremely cute right from the word go and like the general atmosphere, and the idea of the protagonist acting as a mahou shoujo sidekick. Definitely not if you’re mainly picking up the game for side heroines considering Sumomo’s overbearing presence even in their routes. Side heroines are completely skippable as well, so if you do pick this up for Sumomo, you can just safely ignore them without missing anything. I would’ve probably ended up liking the game more if I just did that. In general, apart from side heroines’ lackluster treatment, nothing really stood out as overtly bad or good to leave a lasting impression either way. If you’re looking for a game specifically about mahou shoujo, then there’s several games better serving that purpose in my opinion, and other games better geared for pure sugar overload as well. Apparently the non-ero rereleases added more routes and characters, so I don’t know if they managed to fix some of the issues I had with the game.

Alright well, this game is basically the Time Cube in VN form written by a chuuni as fuck Japanese guy who respects Hitler "as a dreaming politician, outside of good/evil" and hates the fuck out of religion. This game is basically 5+ hours of him ranting about his view of the world and Gnosticism and so on. On the one hand there are very interesting ideas in this, since the author is both insane and seemingly very well-read. On the other hand, it is a chore to sit through. At one point he writes a thesis on Gnosticism that would probably be about 100 pages long in print if not more. That's when I started holding the CTRL key.

The first hour or so of the game is fairly entertaining as the author chronicles history and lays out the groundwork for his idea, some of which were actually intriguing to me. One chapter was a rich person in the modern era trying to influence politics to maximize happiness in Japan, and he had some keen observations I think about happiness and capitalism and so on. But once the Gnosticism rant hits, shit hits the fan. The game loses all structure and descends into pure ranting. I want to emphasize that we're talking literally hundreds of pages worth of text with no plot, no characters, just the author ranting. Pic related is what it turns into.

I can appreciate purely intellectual ventures, and in fact I think someone might come from this enriched. But you have to go in carefully. The author is mentally unhealthy and ideas can travel like poison between people. If you can wade through his rants without getting bored or being influenced by his more poisonous ideas, you might find this game worth giving a look - it's quite unlike most VNs and covers topics you might only find in historical/philosophical papers elsewhere. Again, 100 page treatise on Gnosticism in this. But most people, myself included, will end up either bored or thrown off by the author's ranting. An interesting VN for sure, and I'm sad to say I can't call it a hidden kamigem.

Man, the shit really hit the fan pretty hard. Yoshiya's scene with his dead mom was pretty rough honestly, guy had a pretty mature bearing for the most part of the game with his 真面目 schtick, but that shit crumbled during that scene were he's running all that awful shit in his head. Seijuurou seems pretty interesting and I'm wandering what his whole deal is and why he's such a massive asshole. So I tossed out the warning. It's not a big deal, just something to consider. The Hitler apologism alone is enough to be wary, since the path of neonazism is a pretty fucked up one.

Just read the chapter of WWII and I didn't interpret it at all as apology of nazism neither as praise of the figure of Hitler. Rather the contrary. Basically the chapter is about totalitarian ideology with the leader/führer taking over the role of God, now that we know that God doesn't exist. And therefore now the Paradise is created/provided by men themselves. Hitler in the role of Demiurge fits like a glove into Gnosticism.

There is the mention of the (Jewish) banking system collapse that was one of the reasons for the WW's. It even puts the banking system as part of the jewish paradise. How long is this? I'm only on chapter 3 but I'm already enjoying it quite a bit. The premise seems to be that after humanity has realized the Gnostic ideal of pleroma and essentailly entered Godhood in an everlasting utopia, the main character takes you back on a journey through the history of mankind, discussing his mind from an ascended point of view. So far,I think his introduction to Gnostic philosophy has been very interesting and extremely digestable as well. I finished the book part. It was short enough to get through in one sitting at least. Like you said, after the yakuza story it kinda switched into a really personal and opinionated writing. The politician bit is him laying out his political view, economically right wing libertarian who thinks Japan is communist. I completely saw it coming when he wrote himself into prime minister and had a good chuckle. Rather than rambling, I think the book is rather unlike his manifesto. He goes over social politics with rather broadstrokes and the takes aren't too out of the ordinary. I found the part where he denies on the goodness of God and the Cosmos to be most interesting as it further expends on his version of Gnosticism. Especially interesting is the fervent fanaticism for Transhumanism. I ended up skipping the rest of the game to see how much was left and I seem to only be about 1/3 or 1/4 of the way through. The entirety after the book seems to besomething like a dialogue between a couple of Demiurges and a Devil?

Personally, I think Gnosticism is extremely fascinating and most optimal when working alongside Christianity. My biggest problem with his Gnosticism is the utter lack of a moral system applicable to the "cosmos" and it's inability to translate into real world politics. But the author would no doubt reject the idea as his belief fundamentally opposes the concept of duality(反宇宙的二元論) and thus has no interest in a system of "good" vs "bad". As for his politics, I think at a few points he had stressed the necessity for social equality and even class equality. If that were the case, it would collapse a lot of his arguments. I don't find /pol/'s conspiracy theories to be that repugnant or all that harmful myself so it was really intriguing when he brought up his belief about Jewish banking families. There was also mention of Free Masonry but they appeared to be directly related to Gnosticism itself. I don't think the mention of Jews was a sign of him being an antisemite, quite the opposite in actuality, he documented their history in earnesty and was very opposed to ww2 imperialism. If I would to take up the tinfoil hat myself, I would say that he may regard the certain group of Jews as fellow secret society Gnostics to bring about humanity's evolution. (The nightmare that awakened him to transcendence was brought by the hands of the Free Mason Girl)
