IIRC the old keyboard player from Casiopea did a lot of them.

Some of these sound like something you might hear starting up an old game.

Pretty sure these first two are the ones I heard on the long shinkansen trips using the last of my rail pass, coming back on he last kodama train back to Hiroshima.
These tunes would put me to sleep and make the rides so comfy.

While it's true he missed the context, that hardly makes him a retard. That's pure hyperbole, and it was a fair question. The only reason I know the context with confidence is because I use the Yamanote line every so often, and can look up the 発車メロディー info on Japanese Wikipedia. How many posters on /jp/ actually know if and when the melodies are retired?

Further more, why did you feel the need to make that comment after someone had provided the answer? Are you trying to shame them for having the audacity to be helpful?
Your post only serves as an unsuccessful attempt to humiliate others, and does not benefit anyone, including your own image. Hopefully this post at least benefits you.

Ueno's Yamanote melody, "Bell B," is probably my favorite, but that's because of nostalgia more than anything.
It sounds like a telephone ringing, but it's actually an imitation of a device called a "Departure Bell." It's what was the norm before they introduced the melodies.

ZUN sampled the chime at the end of this song:

It looks like the guy behind the sound of capsule, perfume, kyary, etc. was asked to make a jingle.
I was initially surprised at how reserved it was, but I'm pretty sure these melodies operate on the KISS principle.

Pretty good. It only makes sense such a prolific producer knows when to hold back.

My favorite ones are the Astroboy and Dragon Quest themes. I forgot where in Tokyo they were, but it was on the way to Ikebukuro. The Japanese and their mastery of comfiness is truly marvelous.
