Part 1
2 days after the previous events, Quinn regains consciousness, having been rescued by nearby villagers. Same goes for Samrukh. Samrukh had vehemently demanded that her wounds not be treated. Quinn reports back to her superiors and they are now waiting for them to come extract them.

Meanwhile, Magsarion has disappeared. As such only Samrukh is returning. Quinn will stay on to continue her mission of apprehending Magsarion.

Samrukh expresses envy at Magsarion's combat prowess and is bewildered at just how he managed to pull off that Alastor move on the Daeva. Quinn also has no idea but hypothesizes that it might be due to exploiting a bug/loophole in the way Vohu Manah's feathers work.

Sām (ATK buff) and Kshatra (DEF buff) strengthens material substances. Conceptually speaking, they enlarge and make more massive stuff/effects. It would be like having immense nutritional value in just a single bean enabling one to be fully satiated from just eating it alone. On the other hand, Fravard (Flight) and Shewatir (Teleportation) conceptually shrink, lighten, thin out etc phenomena. This is because in order to not be constrained by physical laws such as weight and distance, they have to render phenomena vague and indistinct. These two groups of buffs are thus conceptually incompatible. When you use Sām and Fravard together, either one of them will have their respective effect enhanced. However one has to account for the overall balance. Basically, it's much more practical to have a cavalry troop than a cannon that's difficult to hit its target with or a light aircraft that's solely capable of only speed.

However, Magsarion used Sām four times in a row followed by Shewatir. If this were all there was to it, the latter would have no utility in this case. However Shewatir is for teleportation. It is a shortcut between distant points that ignores distance. In other words, it is a hole in space. This most likely caused a runaway that allowed the "massive, heavy" entity of his attack to cut down the opponent. Even if the teleportation was cancelled out, it still resulted in massive speed which was more than sufficient here. In this way, Magsarion brought about the coemergence of both attack strength and speed effects whose source buffs normally cancelled each other out. And he apparently did this all from his battle experience.

Quinn and Samrukh continue talking about their Vows (Commandments) so they can better aid each other. For Samrukh, the max amount of energy she can put into one attack is the same as the total of her wounds. As she has lost her limbs for 7 or 8 times already, 8 is the number of times she can go all out per day. In a battle where she's unharmed, she cannot use her power while minor wounds enable her to pull off only minor effects. She doesn't know what happens if she exceeds her limit. However, while she's hard to kill because of this, she isn't immortal. Outright fatal wounds or lethal wounds that cannot be healed such as destruction of the head or heart would kill her.

For Quinn, her Avestan ability allows her to serve as the communications node for the Wahman Yasht. By sending her "voice" out into the universe she can communicate with the rest of the Yazata. She can also hear all of them. Their prayers, hopes etc. Vohu Manah has a similar ability but Quinn does most of the communications work.


However an important point crops up that Samrukh noticed which Quinn hoped she hadn't. Quinn broke her Vow when they encountered Magsarion. Why had she suffered no divine retribution as a result? Quinn was reluctant to answer but Samrukh ordered her to. Fortunately, a kid called Laley interrupted and inadvertently ordered her to speak with her instead.

Some stuff with the village men flirting with Quinn occurs etc etc.

Real trouble starts when after 4 days no Yazata had arrived or responded to Quinn's message. They try to leave the village to find they are stuck in a spatial distortion. No matter how far they travel, they always return to the same place. The distortion eventually tightens down to confining them in the village chief's house. Not a single villager in sight, place quite as a grave.

They try to bust down the walls and even the windows to escape but they cannot leave the building. Quinn is getting really anxious now since the possibility is high that the attacker is rampaging amnogst the villagers while trapping her and Sam in the house.

The warp tightens even further, confing them to a single room within the building.

They hear a knock on the door. It's Layley. Samrukh warns her not to enter or move. Layley had brought breakfast and it seemed like she wasn't caught in the spatial distortion. They question her about the other villagers and everything seems well with them. Quinn says they may be ale to escape if Layley is with them, despite there being a risk she may become trapped also instead.

Quinn offahndedly remarks that she and Samrukh needed to leave soon to which Layley reacts badly since she had grown attached to them after they essentially saved the town from the rampaging Daeva earlier. Layley commands her to stay and protect their village.

Quinn was able to disregard it since her Vow favors the commands of her superiors so refusing the commands of those below them would not trigger any divine retribution. This was why she could ignore Magsarion earlier. Quinn says it isn't because she sees the village as of little importance but that the enemy they are facing now is too evil to be ignored.

For Quinn right now, the highest priority imperative is to fulfil Khvarenah's order to gather miracles. Following that is her duty to Suirios (the head of the Wahman Yasht) to apprehend Magsarion. While Layley's desire is earnest, it just could not compare with the will of a demon lord and the head of the Wahman.

Layley despairs saying why despite praying to God every day they are still being abandoned. This is the first time Quinn has heard of the concept of "God."

At this moment, the tip of a blade bursts from Layley's chest. She has no idea what is happening before she dies.

The door opens and there is Magsarion. The girls are enraged but Magsarion simply turns to leave, leaving them with Layley's corpse.

They try to destroy the room in an attempt to break out. As Quinn comes into contact with Layley's blood, she is filled with Layley's last remaining thoughts and at the same time, the barrier broke, freeing them.

Before leaving Quinn closes Layley's eyes and apologizes saying her death was Quinn's fault. In those last moments she had noticed something about the ever regenerating Daeva that had mysteriously appeared from nowhere. Magsarion had said he was going to cut out the root. if Quinn had realized then, this could have been averted.

"There's no God Layley. There's only Avesta (真我). This instinct that we have been granted to end this war," Quinn says as she leaves. That's why they needed a miracle. Layley hadn't been wrong. if there was no God then they had to create one

According to Masada, the majority of the strong yazata are similar to Magsarion in personality and he's perfectly one who belongs from the side of good.

After reading the second part of the first chapter, I was just thinking Kouha had some fucked up sense of aesthetic to describe evil as beautiful where forge daddy is a supergiantlike entity with an unsettling mouth and the daeva from the first part was a flesh monster with tentacles and good as ugly. But so far all we've seen was that the Ashavan seemingly lined up with the traditional meaning of good, with the exception of Magsarion and Layli's dad
I guess we'll see some more of the ugly with the Wahman, at least the upper brass.

The phenomenon in which one turns from good to evil and vice versa gets some mention in the second half. The phenomenon is called 転墜 (fall) and it seemingly works in a more localised scale with individuals shifting rather than the definitions and values of good and evil shifting. But it's extremely rare, so rare that it's thought to be fairy tale and that there are only vague theories as to why such a thing could occur. and the slightest possiblity of it occuring was enough for Magsarion to kill a 6 year old girl and massacre an entire village Maybe Masada changed his mind like how he did with the first shinza's description in KKK. This just means that no one we currently know about has demonstrated the knowledge of such a thing(or just hasn't revealed it). Forge Dad stopped short of completely wiping out the good guys before the current plot started to satisfy his autism so it was close to happening.

Stuff about Shinga's name towards the end of the prologue didn't really touch about reversing. It was all being ambiguous about her being... ambiguous. That part was mostly about how Shinga and Marie were the exceptions to the Hadou God line-up in that they weren't driven to their positions by anger. I imagine it means they didn't emanate out of a motivation to fight against some other concept or force that they strongly oppose or hate.

Nadare is seemingly the oldest demon king, she has been around since beginning of the Whaman Yast, despite that she has the appearance of a young woman. She's constantly moving and warping around, never staying in the same place. Where she appears is completely random. Her being ranked number 2 by the Wahman Yast is due to her being quiet for a few hundred years. She might even be above Khvarenah in regards to destructiveness.

Whilst Nadare and Khvarenah are described as akin to calamities, Bafravān is a full on warrior. The Wahman Yast even know his commandment "Whoever he meets, no matter who they are, he must fight them with his utmost strength" . No matter who or what it might be, man, women, children, the elderly, animals, insects, fucking plants, he pays no mind to good or evil. You meet him, the gong rings. In regards to the changes within the Demon Kings, 90% of the time, he's the reason for it. Funnily enough he's also similar to Muzan in the "looking into his opponents eyes whilst listening to their agony as they die, bathing in their blood". The last one left is the strongest - operates on that sort of reasoning. Samluk even noted how he's like a fallen Magsarion.

Frederica is a crazed murderer, as such she (?) shows no interest in anything other than humans. Despite her (?) youth, she's still regarded as extremely dangerous. She (?) also has an infamous suburbanite who is extremely powerful.

On the point of youth, Mashyāna is similar. On her planet, a great number of people awakened to the deeper parts of the Avesta after the death of Vahrām. The planet served as the largest battleground of good and evil

Kaikhosru differs greatly from the rest in his disposition. He acts as a tyrant and focuses on the exploitation of others rather than killing, as such his danger rating is low. However he has served as a Demon King for quite some time, as such he must have some power given he was able to defend his position for so long

Not much is known about the Seventh Demon King given that it hasn't been active at all, All that is known it that it resides on a planet similar to the Holy Kingdom, hides in the darkness, completely unknown,

Chapter summary:

First of all, at the introduction of the chapter we get a description of the planet Wahman Yast is situated (HQ of the Yazata), as an archetypical world of Good. Basically, all of nature is in perfect harmony, it is a true paradise. Its oceanic life lives in perfect harmony, with strictly regulated competition and cooperation and a tighly preserved equilibrium of weak-strong living things. The same goes for ground dwelling life, who live in perfect harmony with their environment and wildlife in a single continent. All of these beings are cared for by their homeworld itself, and its Star Spirit: all stars are alive, as much as the beings dwelling within them. Even those inhospitable planets with scorching environments and icy landscapes are. If a planet's dead, it cannot even be called a planet: it's just a lump of rock.

These are the planets aligned with the side of Good, all inhabitants receiving their homeworld's blessing as worthy Ashavan. Even though humans are the only intelligent species, these worlds are far from being an uncontested dictatorship of mankind. Humans, considering all living things their brethren, live in absolute harmony with nature, neither burning forests down nor polluting the seas. As their Avesta determines, Ashavan are inclined for respect and preservation of the world's natural order, and mostly anathema to anything disturbing it. There are a few people who can indeed build craft and technologies that allow them to twist this natural order somewhat, but such people are extremely few in number, and they do not share their craft with the common folk. In order to respect the natural order, and to maintain the inherent a harmony to it, the Ashavan relinquish all selfishness and just seek to lead a pastoril, idyllic life in communion with nature.

This is exactly the reason why the advancement rate for Ahura Mazda is so low, and why indeed all civilizations are on the technological level of the Middle Ages. And also, the very reason as to why there's a quality disparity in Ashavan in comparison to Dragvant: as Evil, they are the very opposite of the Ashavan, they are selfish beings who seek to monopolize and take over everything, fucking up and disrupting the natural order in the process, which is the moment they enter into conflict with the Ashavan, driven by their Avesta to end them. The Yazata, formed as the warriors of Good, use all their technology to become strong enough to face their opposing enemies, the Daeva (that is, their tech is only remotely more advanced in terms of tools useful for war). And even though the Dragvant are qualitatively better than the Ashavan, they surpass them in quantity. This is exemplied in the fact that the Yazata in Wahman Yast are an entire army, while the Seven Archdemons leading the Dragvant are fixed at 7.

The Workshop of Destruction, Archdemon Khvarenah, in light of this is a terrific entity. A force equivalent to a natural disaster that disseminates its artifacts through the universe with no care for Good or Evil, therefore expanding tragedy's reach and turning the universe into a gigantic whirlpool of chaos. He also breaks somewhat the differences in between Ashavan and Dragvant, as he is the summit of quality while also possessing massive quantity, plus his artifacts.

The current world that serves as the foundation of Wahman Yast, basically what has been described above (called "blue gem shining in the void" or something to that effect), is not the original HQ of the palace of the Yazata. Their original base fell 20 years ago, during the attack of the Star Cluster of Extinction. Basically, on top of all casualties in the battle, the entire planet was gulped down by Khvarenah and his kenzoku. The guardian Star Spirit of Wahman Yast, previously defeated and devoid of a yorishiro, Vohu Manah, used the last of its power to allow barely 30 survivors to teleport away via its blessing (that is, Sewatir). The current planet they are in was a previously unexplored one. Even though this planet is barely on the development level of the Middle Ages, their original one was different. Not only have they lost huge amount of warriors, but also the people who knew how to operate their technologies, therefore their development level has been set back considerably. Which means Wahman Yast are a far cry from what they were in their golden age. The previously lustrous palace of heroes now looks like then den of assassins and rogues, and the Yazata inhabiting in have lost their previously heroic and glorious aura to give way to grief, gloom and desperation. Frankly they are not in their best moment currently, on top of basically being forced to hide and to use hit and run tactics till they recover their former strength.

The story begins as Samruhk is taking her vows, she is being inducted as a Yazata officially, in a ceremony presided by Holy King Sirius himself. Alongside him, stand two princes of the planet, as well as 50 other Yazata. The government system of Wahman Yast is a pure meritocracy, not determined by someone's bloodline, extending to Sirius himself. One who is to become Holy King must be able to establish a connection to Vohu Manah, as well as taking on the extremely rigorous Commandments that the position entails. The two princes were born after the catastrophic defeat 20 years ago as natives of this planet, belonging to powerful and influential families. So are the other 50 Yazata, none of them witnessed the attack of Khvarenah. No one, but Sirius himself. Of the 30 Yazata who survived such event, only 5 people still remain alive: Sirius, a certain "sister", Vohu Manah, a lone Yazata currently on a mission in some far away planet, and Magsarion. Quinn tells us she hasn't read the minds of those 5, and due to that, she can only know what happened back at the time through what they tell her (remember, Khvarenah shat her out right after this affair, she didn't personally witness it). Additionally, it's not that she hasn't, it's that she's unable to read the minds of both Sirius (who has a fortress-like mind) and Magsarion (whose mind is just a vortex of rage and violence). Sirius himself is just about 40 years old, but he looks like a really old gentleman, as the position has taken its toll on him. Nevertheless, he remains extremely powerful, and Samruhk is afraid to look him in the eyes ( he’s basically KKK Old!Second Heaven).

In the process of her introduction ceremony, Samruhk receives pitch black metal prothesics to make up for her lost limbs in battle (even though it is said there are people in Wahman Yast who can perform strong Haom to just regen her limbs, that'd go against her Commandment. While prothesics don't). Upon receiving Quinn's report of what went down in the village (murder of Layley and the villagers), it is on Sirius' hands to determine what to do about Magsarion. He faces three possible punishments: execution, exile or just taking away his Yazata rights and being put under surveillance, if he is deemed to valuable a resource to lose. Magsarion acted within their rules of engagament, though, and Samruhk is of the mind that he shouldn't be allowed to die so easily, he must make up for his crimes first.

The conversation with Sirius reveals the existence of a miraculous hero of the Yazata, Varhram... Sirius' sworn friend, as well as Magsarion's older brother. He had been one of the strongest Yazata ever, being responsible for the take down of no less than 3 ARCHDEMONS all by himself, concretely ranks 4, 5 and 7. Which is all that Wahman Yast has managed in 2,000 years of history. To the point finding a successor for him is a key point of their counterattack strategy as, sadly, he met his end 20 years ago fighting Khvarenah. His death marked Sirius and Magsarion's lives, it is said that Magsarion's bottomless hatred for Evil is, in part, due to his death. Quinn foresees that civil war might break out within Wahman Yast, given the situation.

After the audience is over, Quinn takes Samrukh to the Planetarium: Mandala-like space that shows a map of the entire universe, drawn thanks to the universal awareness of Vohu Manah. Even though it is not perfect, they can track the position of anything within the universe with it, including their enemies.

Quinn lists the demon kings’ location/domain or their kenzoku first, then their rank, then their true names:

Singularity Angra Mainyu, Rank 2 Archdemon, Nadare.
Violent Locust Swarm Aeshma, Rank 3 Archdemon, Bhavan.

Khvarenah goes without saying, we already know a lot about him as opposed to the others. The only one which represents kenzoku is Bhavan's Violent Locust Swarm Aeshma, according to Masada. The others are the Archdemon's location, that is, their domain. Seems like he's treating the Star Cluster of Extinction as a star system despite them being Khvarenah's kenzoku too.

Quinn says all of them are set apart a humongous distance from each other. So much, that crossing it at the speed of light, would take some 10,000s of years. However, this means shit to the Archdemons, as they are able to replicate Vohu Manah's Star Spirit blessing to just teleport (remember, there are a few Star Spirits among them, Khvarenah is not the only one). Samruhk inmediately asks what's the criteria Wahman Yast uses to rank them, and Quinn simply answers that they are ranked in accordance to the Evil and harm they cause, that is, the number of Ashavan they have killed. It's not a power ranking. But......... Ranks 1 to 3 are on an entirely different level from the others. In the first place, not only are those 3 the strongest of the Archdemons, all of them having a track record of destroying multiple stars (with Khvarenah, a star devouring star, being the main example), they are also the oldest and most ancient, having lived for at least 1,000 years straight. Samruhk is totally baffled by this revelation. Quinn reveals that they aren't human, in the same way as she isn't too. However, even while their bodies might be undying, their mind is certainly not, and time would take its toll on them. However, these three have souls capable of trascending the very laws of physics/nature, and just by their force of will they are able to remain just as they began.

First thing's first, Rank 2, Nadare. She's mysterious as fuck to say the least, and her location cannot even be accurately pinpointed. Her behaviour is hectic: she appears on some location, then dissappears and reappears at a whim in an entirely different place, ad libitum... thus Singularity. Her power basically lets her jump outside of the universe, then reappear wherever she desires. She apparently used to irregularly gather the other Archdemons within her realm outside of the universe, this Singularity, which gets interpreted by Samruhk as being the Archdemons' collective HQ. She is a fearsome if unknown existence, since as her name indicates, she is able to "break" the world. Her appearence, as recorded, is that of a young girl, but Quinn advises Samruhk not to be fooled: she is in truth the oldest Archdemon, having existed for the entirety of Wahman Yast's history. Yeah, she's even older than Quinn's old man, and is really fucking powerful as well as important. Quinn speculates that, if she were more active, she'd be Rank 1 instead of Khvarenah. Apparently, her activity follows cycles, and she so far has been hundreds of years without appearing, probably chilling within Singularity (is this THE Singularity?), so she got an automatic demotion.

Rank 3, Bhavan, is also fearsome but quite different from Khvarenah and Nadare. While these two are destroyers, Bhavan is a warrior. While they are forces of nature/natural disasters, Bhavan's point of view is extrictly human. His Commandment is known to Wahman Yast to be Fight whoever you meet with your full strength, as long as both of you recognize each other. Which means that he must kill anything he meets. Man or woman, adult or child, animal or plant or bug, Good and Evil, anything. He's a relentless force of destruction that kills anything he meets without any regards for them being Ashavan or Dragvant, he's reduced to waste numerous planets already in his quest, and killed numerous Star Spirits. He'll fight anything and everything, last remaining thing being the universe's strongest individual. Furthermore, he's also responsible for 90% of the Archdemon replacements these last 1,000 years. So yeah, this guy is insane and kills his fellow Archdemons for sport, he's probably source of most of the infighting within the Dragvant. His reckless, bloodthirsty behaviour makes Samruhk spitefully compare him to a Tentsui'd Magsarion.

Summary for ranks 4 to 7 is far more brief. Rank 4, Frederica, is refered to as being a murderous demon (and given the wording, she's likely to be the Princess of Slaughter mentioned in Saoshyant Desatir). Therefore, she's only interested in humans. Do not be fooled by her youth (given Varhram killed the previous Rank 4 20 years ago, Frederica is the previous Rank 4 Archdemon's replacement), as her Rank indicates she's quite a great threat. BTW, replacements for the core groups take place after 1 year if the opposing side faills to kill them all within that time. It's also noted her kenzoku are notoriously dangerous.

Rank 5, Mashyana, is also a rather young Archdemon, being a replacement for one of those killed by Varhram. Despite her youth, and similarly to Frederica, do not be fooled. In her planet, people were born without regard for Good and Evil, so it was quite a gruesome battlefield... till she came out the decisive victor.

Rank 6, Kaikhosru, is ranked so low because of his behaviour. He's more of a tyrant than a killer. He heavily oppresses people living in his domain and makes their lives a living hell, but he's far more unlikely to resort to killing than his peers.

Aaaand finally there's Rank 7, Aka Manah... another huge mystery. Samruhk realizes his location, Domain of the True King Jihir (reminder, Wahman Yast's kanji say "Domain of the Holy King". Kinda funny how in a few chapters of Avesta we've gotten more world-building detailing the 1st Throne than we've gotten in the entirety of Dies irae about the 4th Throne. I'd assume there are variations in tier 6 given that three of the Demon Kings stand heads above the others, so non god Reinhardt would probably be the creme de la creme of Tier 6. So probably manhandles 4 of the lower Demon Kings like Methuselah and no idea about the top 3. But then again, Reinhardt manhandling Methuselah could be attributed to him being Snek's death wish incarnate giving him great compatibility against the gods born from his law.
The key is compatibility I suppose, though Machina is tier 5, he could probably one shot a decent number of the tier 6s if he can punch them in the first place.

PL hasn't aged well in my opinion, the actual writing itself is the weakest amongst all of Masada's works. However, it does have some really cool world building and lore if that's your speed. Otherwise I'd recommend moving onto Senshinkan, which I personally preferred over the Shinza works.
