22202647 No.22202647 [Reply] [Original]

The site was old and unmaintained, but it hosted a large collection of translated doujinshi works and replays. Now the domain has expired.

Someone has made a new replay archive here:
https://maribelhearn.com/gensokyo

But I think the most valuable part was the translations that had been uploaded during many years. I don't think all of them are in e-h.

>> No.22202679

Shit, I had a feeling months ago that the site was gonna kick the bucket soon and tried to download as much of the translated doujins as I could but not even half of those links worked before so I gave up. Rip
You can try this: https://web.archive.org/web/20190309094626/http://www.gensokyo.org/manga-links but I doubt half of the links will work this time around, especially with Wayback Machine. You could try later dates too.

Because technically, anything that isn't sanctioned by ZUN, the creator, is just categorically false or at best speculation and not canon. So why would you bother discussing it seriously? You can have good fun if you don't take it seriously but you took it too seriously.

Which is why at best, doujinshis are usually best read as porn and non-erotic doujinshi only works best if it is completely unrelated for the most part to what has been established by ZUN.

In fact, just to give those who haven't has the chance to read any secondary material because they never bothered to or didn't know where to start I'll drop 2 reccomendations. It'll also let the shitposters know I'm not just talking out my ass.

Fuantei makes some some really funny stuff, a lot of focus on Futo, but also on other characters.

Bomber Grape also made a few really good doujins. I'm pretty sure he made Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou, which had a really great anime too.

I have no problems against secondary material but the namesake of secondary is bestowed upon it for a good reason.

As >>22292980 states, It's not unreasonable again to have fun with it either and good fun can be had, but people rightfully will not like material that flies against canon or twists established characteristic traits too much, which happens all too often in big fandom for various reasons, so you can never ever make unreasonable claims or take stuff too seriously about it.

You nor anyone else are not controlling the direction of the work/franchise, you are participating in a fandom that you like along with many other people, so don't make a mountain out of a molehill when it comes to works that aren't from or sanctioned from the creator that is for the sole purpose of extending your enjoyment of said work/franchise.

even ZUN is fine with this shit. look at the list of the people who he's had on nikenme radio. the people he did the 20th anniversary stream with. the people who he picked to do his various manga. people who act like they're too good for "unserious" secondary material are just being pointlessly elitist cunts and should be ridiculed for it.

>> No.22308254

So, wait. The point you're trying to make is that ZUN is cool with that one circle who has been with Touhou since forever and made a lot of fanon shit a good deal before a lot of canon was established and became relatively well known? IOSYS is fine. The older stuff doesn't hold up well because as time went on, we got much more established characterization. A good deal of other stuff is also just blatantly not even trying to follow canon with over the top parody. They aren't writing stories. This isn't even a valid comparison.

You're trying to argue people hate secondary works and are being elitist, but several people here have stated otherwise. Please tell me this isn't >>22290362 I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt and assume not.

>> No.22308308

>before a lot of canon was established
there was never a point in time in which tasukete eirin or alice stole the precious thing or convictor yamaxanadu held up well against the canon. it wasn't new, more developed characterization that did those in. they were never even remotely faithful to the canon and they were never intended to be anything of the sort. they were, from the very beginning, intended to be over-the-top fucking dumb. nor did rocket fuel 21's doujins ever have any basis in canon: they invented ships - often multiple competing ships - out of whole cloth. and ZUN's perfectly fine with that because it's secondary work and people can write as much fanfiction about gensokyo as they want, the same way as ZUN's entire stock in trade is writing fanfiction about japanese mythology.

>but several people here have stated otherwise
well, i guess if people say they're not being elitist, it must be true, despite having standards even higher than ZUN himself.

I disagree with your first point. Both on the basis that when I say canon was 'established and well known' I'm saying when people started to care about it. Marisa Stole the Precious Thing was back in 2006. Secondaries were rampant back then.

>rocket fuel 21's doujins
I don't even know who this is. Why are you bringing up examples FOR me? You're doing this with IOSYS too. You're basically trying to tell me what I'm having a problem with and then saying I'm wrong for it. That doesn't make for a good argument at all.

And again, for the last time, there's serious fanon, and fanon in good fun. And frankly, I think there is a lot worse than IOSYS. I can understand why ZUN has a good rep with them. They've been fan creators for a LONG time, and frankly a lot of their fan music is damn good. I'm not talking about the meme songs either. Unsure if you even know this, but they made proper albums and such.

i'll tell you a secret: all fanon is in good fun. literally fucking everybody knows it is not "real." that's what it means to produce doujin work. i can't tailor a general argument about secondaries specifically to each individual who claims to hate secondaries but are entirely incapable of identifying anything they don't like.

Oof. Did I hit a nerve? You seem to keep mentioning this. Either way, you sound full of shit.

You're conflating parody with unintended misrepresentation. And I'm pretty sure you're interpreting 'I don't like it' as 'nobody should make these.' But it doesn't exist so you look like you're just flailing around.

And honestly? Looking back at our conversation? I think I see where the problem might lie.
>but people rightfully will not like material that flies against canon or twists established characteristic traits too much
I didn't post this, for clarification. Which is what seemed to set off your tard rage. But what I was arguing was why people have both a tendency and a right to not like it. My explanation about canon? I was saying that over time, more people -naturally- became more familiar with the canon.

>ZUN is cool with that one circle who has been with Touhou since forever and made a lot of fanon shit a good deal before a lot of canon was established and became relatively well known
Nothing here is incorrect. A LOT of canon has been established since 2006. And a LOT more people are familiar with Touhou canon since 2006.

i do realize it's useless to give you arguments because you literally just ignore them. the only argument you actually have is "WELL THINGS WERE DIFFERENT IN 2016" without ever explaining how parody representations in 2006 were any more faithful than parody representations in the 2019.

As title.
It's sad that Gensokyo is no more, I want to re-create it but not sure how.
At first, I'm looking for torrent of all Gensokyo's Doujinshi, anyone know that thing is exit or not ?
