2216866 No.2216866 [Reply] [Original]

Well, I just finished Ever17.

...What the fuck do I do with all these goddamn bricks?

Thoughts:
Kind of sad that Sora only got a mildly good end, compared to the SO D'AWWWW YOU'LL VOMIT RAINBOWS endings for everyone else. Unless, of course, Tsugumi is open-minded enough...

I figured out You was a clone (though not the complete situation, obviously) long before that bit was revealed. I also read a misleading "spoiler" which indicated that Tsugumi WAS Sara, which threw me off track for...well, pretty much everything else.

Why is "17" kana-ized as "sebuntein" (instead of, say, "sebentiin" on the title screen? Unless I'm misreading it...my moonrune skills are weak...

Everyone's immortal except for You-Aki, Hokuto, and Sara. Kinda sad that You-Haru, Takeshi, and Tsugumi are gonna have to watch their kids grow old and die while they stay young forever...

"Hi, guys! I need you to help me to engineer a disaster on this multi-billion dollar amusement complex, possibly putting hundreds of lives in danger if something goes wrong. This disaster needs to *exactly* replicate the conditions of the disaster that hit it seventeen years ago, and we need to waste all this time and money because a four-dimensional superbeing told me I needed to in order to save my friends who are in cryo suspension in IBF, and...why are you all staring at me like that?"

Kind of a shame that this would be impossible to animate due to the (masterfully executed) first-person-only mind screw.

>> No.2216877

>>2216866
At the end of the game, Sora is already a robot, so Tsugumi has to be really, really open minded.

How You orchestrated the entire thing, I assumed that she had gotten into a position of considerable authority to be able to pull it off. Or she pulled a hell of a lot of strings. She had 17 years to prepare for it, which is enough time I suppose.

>> No.2216895

>>2216877

Well, considering Sora's outwardly realistic enough to pass as human (realistic skin, can show emotions...didn't it even imply she had body heat?), I wouldn't be surprised if whoever designed her included all the naughty bits. Possibly at her request.

>> No.2216898

>Everyone's immortal except for You-Aki, Hokuto, and Sara. Kinda sad that You-Haru, Takeshi, and Tsugumi are gonna have to watch their kids grow old and die while they stay young forever...

wasn't it stated that children of immortals are immortals themselves once they reach of age? They have Tsugumi's blood after all.

One thing I didn't get about Ever17:

If Blick Winkel is a being of the 4th dimension (which the game wrongly assumes is time) how could he be two different people in two different times (ie the one who tells the others to trick him and the one who gets tricked by himself)?

Obviously 3D beings such as ourselves can be considered different entities at different times and along different time paths/brances, but if 4D beings can move freely through time as we move through space there wouldn't be such a thing as two different versions of the same being at different times. For a 4D being each time is not a seperate world, just like for us 3D beings each location in space is not a seperate world.

There should only be one Blick Winkel moving throughout time, not multiple Blick Winkels stuck moving along seperate time paths (as is the case with the humans).

Hopefully that made sense. It was something that was bugging me a few weeks ago when I finished the game, but I forgot about it until I read this thread.

>> No.2216908

>>2216898
No, in fact it specifically explained how that's not the case.

>> No.2216910

>>2216898
Sara and Hokuto are half-Cure, and Tsugumi was relieved to know that, since they would not 'carry the same burden'. I assume being half gave them their extraordinary abilities, like Sara being a genius and Hokuto surviving a dive to the ocean floor, but does not give them the same level of resistance or immortality as Tsugumi.

>> No.2216905

>>2216898

It has been awhile, but I'm fairly certain its the opposite. The kids gain a few nifty abilities, but no immortality unless they're injected with the virus directly at a later date.

>> No.2216912

>>2216898
Actually, it said the exact opposite--while the infravision is a dominant trait, the immortality is recessive. And the Cure virus only works on pure humans, so half-and-half Sara and Hokuto got completely screwed.

>> No.2216913

I finished this a month ago and my head still hurts.

Blick Winkel at some point gets dragged down to the base reality (due to Coco powers?) and forgets who he is, melding himself with Takeshi or Hokuto. Metaphorically speaking, it's like each time you start playing you, the player, think you are the player character. It takes Ever17 plot to tell you, the player, that you aren't your character but an entirely separate being from a superior dimension.

>> No.2216924

>>2216904
The game does get a bit vague on that, but I assumed that he suffered memory loss, which is obvious in the Kid scenarios. He lined himself up at a certain point in his 4D world to be visible to the 3D world, and since he is there and did not move, he did not pay attention. I know I sound vague, it's not that easy to explain.

Blick was never present at the same time with himself. He dissapeared with Takeshi's 'death' at the first incident, so when his future self came back to talk to You, the Blick of that time was no longer present. Something like anyway.

I felt bad about Sora too. I picked her route first (robot moe) and felt kinda gypped when it came to her. She was so moe at the end, internally fussing about being able to touch Takeshi. I could never get attached to Tsugumi... she never showed enough emotion or what she was thinking, even after learning her past, I still think she was kinda bitchy. Ah but that's my opinion.

How'd you figure You was a clone? that caught me by complete surprise. I think the only thing I kind of guessed was that Sara's dad looked pretty familiar.

In a nutshell, Ever17 > Remember11 / 12Riven > Never7

Never7's still good, though.
Remember11 and 12Riven are a great deal more action-y than the others, but I felt they had great stories too. None of them are quite the ties-everything-together-at-the-end masterpiece that is Ever17, though.

The amusement park was rebuilt after the first disaster with insurance money using the original plans. You then got into enough of a position of authority that she was able to sabotage it again in a similar way. She probably wasn't entirely responsible for the rebuilding; I would assume that the company still wanted to hide their labs, and so would still need the cover of the park. Plus, the "official story" in the media is that everyone got out fine in the original disaster, so the park didn't get a particularly bad stigma as a result.

Seriously? I mean, different strokes for different folks, sure, but c'mon! Involved in a car crash and taken from her parents to 'hospital', spends the next 7 godamn years undergoing tests without making any real friends, learns she posseses a kind of contagious immortalilty and escapes, then spends the intervening years till the start of the game dodging hunters Leibliech sends after her. Not only does she have good reason to be suspicious of people, she is terrified that if she gets too close to someone they'll be cursed with immortality as well. Far easier to push others away then risk getting hurt.

One thing that bugged me is that they never explicitly explained what was up with the fluctuating life readings. Like, why did it go as high as 7 when there were only 6 living people in total? The confusion was because of the ambiguity of numeric dates. Is it written as mm/dd/yy? yy/mm/dd? dd/mm/yy?
Kid hears that one date was fifteen years ago. He assumes that the 02 (February) means 2002, which is fifteen years ago from 2017. For everyone else who knows the correct date, the 19 in the date means 2019, but Kid thought that it meant the 19th of February.
