For me, the voice in 1999 really fits the image of Hisoka as a demented, crazy person (particularly the way his voice quivers whenever he speaks), and the high pitch of his voice gives you the impression of him as being a sly and deceitful character. The 2011 voice just makes him sound like the generic sort of ikemen badguy I've heard in half a hundred other shows. It doesn't feel special or unique at all.

But like you say, I haven't watched 2011 properly yet. Maybe I'll change my mind when I have.

I will object to this though. I saved that gif probably 6 or 7 years ago and hadn't ever participated in HxH discussions on /a/ until I was already well into the show (up to the GI OVAs), and even then I've probably made a mere 2 posts or something.

I'm perfectly aware that I'm basing my opinion of 2011 so far on a handful of scenes which may not be very representative of the series as a whole, and I'm still open to the possibility of 2011 being a better show overall, even though the scenes I've seen so far were a disappointment.
