Actually, looking at this the nicest thing I notice straight away is no line between Marisa and Flandre. Tons of other crap born from fan theory, but no Marisa/Flandre connection everyone swears blind is legit these days.

It's been a pet peeve of mine for a while now, the two are often drawn as having a kind of Flandre plays with Marisa relationship, to the point several doujins make a point of showing Marisa as her only friend. But it never happened, it's entirely a fan made relationship.

Reimu (oddly) is the only one who offers to play with her just so she won't show up at her shrine. Marisa is too busy swapping cultural references and being SO RANDUM with her.

Alice gives so many different impressions between PMiSS, in-game dialogue, and Bohemian Archive, it becomes sort of difficult to tell what sort of Alice you enjoy when you say "canon Alice".

You guys don't want Touhou to become like the furry fandom - shitty usergenerated content out the asshole. I respect and understand that, but you can't stop some people from contributing nonetheless. And, as I've said before, Doujins are just visual fanfiction.

People aren't simple so it's nice that Alice isn't always hinting at one thing or another. The you do get a general impression of her.

Truth is most fanon personalities aren't much different then canon personalities. It's just more is assumed correct and often take to the extreme for comedic effect.

The extreme is commonly where problems occur. It's fair to assume Alice is lonely, there are many indications she is and taking it to another level in fan works to tell a story is perfectly fine, often making for a interesting story in itself. But when taken to the extreme, insisted upon that Alice is a lonely tsundere girl always pining for Marisa's love with the rest of her varied personality thrown away for that single purpose alone... well of course fans will disagree.

Eitherway, there is nothing wrong with most Touhou fan works and official works are interesting in their own way to fan themselves, if they weren't they wouldn't have spawned as much fan work taking it further. The point is not to take it too seriously and completely dismiss one or the other.

Also, making up things is fine. I actually enjoyed some of Chado's work even though it's rage material for many. However, using his work to prove one thing about a character is pointless and stupid. Fan work is fan work. Conversely, fan work isn't worthless and adds alot of character.

I agree. However, repeated jokes over a small aspect of a Touhou can quickly become a bit tiring over time, to the point where completely disregarding it is often in the best interest.
