... Now I'm not saying ZUN is anywhere near Tolkien, but to say he's entire devoid of creativity is hyperbole. Adapting mythological creatures/symbols into lolis is probably harder than it sounds; if it was extremely easy, some coroporation would have done it with greater success than ZUN.

Mouse youkai is rather cute actually with a fairly fitting power it seems. The sticks seemed odd at first, but they make sense now I know the context.

Then you have the forgotten umbrella youkai. She has her own charm even if that tongue looks ridiculous... but then really, Utsuho has a TEA COSY on one of her feet. I still beleive ZUN is taking the piss with some of his characters these days.

Undefined Fantastic Object is just business as usual. Best not to take Touhou too seriously like a lot of the doujin born fans seem to, it's a shoot based on one man's idea of a fun shooter. I agree with that man, it is pretty fun.

It won't take long for Japan warm up to them all and pump out fanart.

ZUN acts pretty much like how any normal guy does. He has bouts where he decides to flesh out his stuff a bit because he feels like it. Sometimes, he'll add a serious story just because he can, and other times, he'll make it relatively light-hearted. While it's mostly overall light-hearted, I wouldn't say that he doesn't have any focus on the more serious stuff, or that he has no interest in fleshing out his characters.

In hope he makes an updated PMiSS or something. At the moment, it really looks like most of his sights are set on Lunarians and stuff, which, ironically, are the things in the Touhouverse that I'm the least interested in.

Partially I agree he does take some stuff a little more serious, but it seems to only happen in whatever he's interested in at the time. There will be a bit of depth towards the explanation of his pet topic, then the usual drinking tea and laid back characters.

I don't think he takes the whole series very seriously at all and just goes with whatever he's interested in at any one time.
