Someone please explain the liquor prices in Japan to me...

Why is Jack Daniels the same price as Maker's Mark? MM > JD. Jim Beam was still cheaper, but the crap stuff like Evan Williams was more?

Also, wherever I bought some in the states Bombay Sapphire was as expensive as Tanqueray, but here it's like $10 cheaper?!

Is this just a case of different tastes they have? And how would you guys rate Japanese whiskey?

ive noticed it too, and cant really seem to explain it.
maybe, because its not selling well in the other country, then japan buys the remaining stock at a cheaper price and thus sells it cheaper.

many different friends have told me that many japanese people cant tolerate lots of alcohol.
so instead, they opt for wine.
maybe this has soemthing to do it the prices?

im not sure, ill ask my friends who is the heavy drinker and maybe he can find something out.

I dunno, I live in Kagoshima, which is considered the "shochu capital" (shochu = distilled sake, like vodka). There's as much shochu as sake sold here, maybe even more, but the western liquors don't seem to get much love.

Also, they sell hard liquor in some convienience stores. Are the laws in the rest of Japan like that, too?
