みな!

I’m the new admin of itazuraneko! Please fill out this Google Forms survey: https://forms.gle/rrgofxNewVaGcg9JA

Right now, the site is completely static hand-written HTML, though the HTML books were mostly generated automatically. The library is well outside neocities' target use case and on the verge of exceeding neocities' capabilities. For example, itazuraneko is actually 5 sites on neocities because once a site reached a certain size the uploads stopped working correctly, so the old maintainer added a new one. There are many things like that, which in combination weigh down seemingly easy changes with complications.

My current trajectory, which can be altered, is to split the site in two: one site for djt guide content that can remain on neocities, and one site for the library, hosted somewhere with more developmental flexibility. I’ve posted the DJT portion of the site on github if you’re interested in contributing to the content or layout. I also included part of the library site which, if it gets remade into a separate site, will eventually be retired. That repository doesn’t include the HTML books or the old djt guide library as together they’re around 20GB on disk.

What will Library v2 look like? The library does not have to be directly tied to DJT threads, but I think it should be at least tangentially related to learning Japanese. At the same time, I want to focus on the things that significantly differentiate itazuraneko from other services. Some people said they wanted a tracker, but in what ways are current trackers or libgen insufficient? Maybe there are some things we can add:
- More specific metadata fields, for example, statistical information about the text, such as the number of kanji used
- More administrative involvement in curating uploads
- Better assurance that content stays available
- Focus on Japanese source material: for example, only accepting video uploads with Japanese subs
- Focus on specific media types that have poor coverage elsewhere
What do you guys think?

Initially I was really committed to the idea of a revamped library but having talked to several people I’m a bit less confident that such a site is filling a need in the community. Many have been outspokenly ambivalent toward improving the library, suggesting that maybe I should focus my time on something else. There are a few possibilities I can think of in this category:
- Improving the general maintainability of the site: you won’t really see much of this directly.
- Updating the site look and layout
- Browser extension(s) helpful to Japanese learners, or to make your browser play nicer with Japanese

What’s hard about using your computer to learn Japanese? I want to know.

がんばります!

didnt read op sorry

Your thread may get deleted because DJT is a containment general on /jp/ so be careful. If that happens you should post on the thread.

The manga/LN library is good, since that kind of stuff is somewhat difficult to find copies of.
On the other hand, anime is something you can easily get through other websites like nyaa or even stream through kissanime, so there's not much of a point to it.

Sent in my response on the survey. Main problem I have is that the previous DJT library felt better curated with interesting books and it had buttons to navigate genre titles, while the current one is swamped with everything, especially erotica, and there isn't any way to filter those out if you want to browse or search for interesting books.
