Well, eroges pay better than anime, actually.

It's hardly an issue of self respect when you have folks like Hokuto Minami who have done some 400+ games in the past 10 years.

There's a whole caste of about 20-50 actresses whose forte are eroges. Something like Shin Koihime Musou has most of them, for example.

I don't see why they'd lose all self respect.
They're being paid to talk basically.
On top of that they have the knowledge that thousands will masturbate to their voice alone. That has to be good for your self esteem and sexual confidence.

So, lately whenever I play a video game I don't hear the characters anymore, just underpaid voice actors who probably inflate their ego saying these kinds of corny lines.

Definitely true, but Japanese people definitely have less qualms about doing weird stuff for money, as well as the ones paying for it don't feel guilt. I'd say that Americans have a forced sense of ethics and moralism which would prevent them from readily doing a lot of the things Japanese people do for money.

Also the actresses are really not underpaid considering what they are doing and the lack of training involved.

Imagine you are their boyfriend. When they go home at night, you get to surprise them with a hug and a bottle of champagne, and rub the stress out of their shoulders. Then later, sex.
