Just play all the games in whichever order you prefer, focus on the ones you enjoy the most until you can consistently 1cc them on normal or above, then work on the other ones. PC-98 ones are optional due to being so different from the Windows ones but it's good to give them a try too. There's no set order to do anything, just do whatever you feel more comfortable with.

Good game entry points are EoSD (requires a few extra steps to run perfectly on Win10 though), PCB and MoF. They're all relatively easy, with EoSD being the hardest of them, and don't rely on previous games. Once you hone your skills and get your first Normal 1cc, you can just play the rest in chronological order. The PC-98 games are fun, but they require an emulator and they're mostly a different continuity, so you might want to save them for later.

I like the music. I dont like shmups.

Some people will say start with IN because it was the easiest, others would tell you thats fucking stupid because it makes you learn bad habits with longer deathbomb timings, some will say EoSD because its the first PC game, at least one retard will say start with the first game because its the chronological order even though its vastly different to everything else, but at the end of the day the best game to start with is whichever one clicks with you on your first playthrough. Just don't start with SA because that game is pretty hard, and for my own personal recommendation while the games a bit too new to properly judge WBaWC with otter... anyone, really, is shockingly easy. If you can't get a good grasp on the other games and no one game immediately clicks with you, try that.

They're half hour games stretched out to a few dozen hours because of how much you have to play it over and over just to beat it. Outside of Lunatic there are very few instances where the game does "if you don't do thing RIGHT now you're dead" without proper warning, in most cases you should be able to have just enough memorization to remember the basic idea of how a pattern goes and how to deal with it. Even more often than that, a focused look at how a pattern develops should be enough to give you an idea of what to do without any memorization whatsoever. It's much more learning than memorizing, I'd say.
Also, consider trying LoLK out, as despite the game's crazy difficulty it doesn't send you back to the start if you fuck up (but then again this is the one game that loves throwing surprises at you and punishes bomb spam, so it might not give you the best playing habits).

Shmups are a niche genre and arguably one of the hardest ones too. An average person would get annihilated playing a Touhou game.

The internet blew up about how hard Sans was, and his difficulty is honestly about the level of Stage 3 on Normal. So that should be an indicator for something.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is probably biased for having practiced countless hours to become good enough in the genre and only consider Dodonpachi and Ikaruga hard.

if anything, it's better to share what people might not figure out on their own, like the existence of tools like spoileral that can greatly increase practice efficiency.
