Well, A week after completion of RTK1, my reps now only take 40 minutes per day. I think it's time to get back into all my other Anki studies. As a rule, I'm going to limit myself to 90 minutes a day, which in combination with setting New cards to come after Reviews, shouldn't be too difficult to keep self-regulating.

If you made a huge effort to consciously replicate to replicate Japanese consonants, vowels, etc. all as described in phonetics manuals or on Wikipedia articles, I do not doubt that you could slowly become accustomed to being able to almost naturally sound like a Japanese native. I know this goes against the unconscious part of language acquisition that Stephen Krashen hypothesized, but then again so does pitch accent study and "shadowing" as put into the AJATT/MIA guides.
The truth, young people's minds are just as bad at learning stuff like languages or anything else as older people. In addition, people who don't sleep well or do drugs can fuck up their memory quite badly.
As a matter of fact, I'd say young people seem like they're better at learning stuff because they're still in the habit of having to cram stuff into their minds for the sake of passing tests or impressing people or any of that kind of shit. That is to say, they're good because they have to make lots of effort to remember stuff. Older people seem like they're less willing to do this kind of extreme challenges (be it because they have full time jobs, children, or they just genuinely don't care about such trivial pursuits), even though, given enough motivation, they could easily do them.
If somebody like Nuke didn't learn Japanese, I'll guess it must be because of a lack of motivation to keep consistency, not because he's dumb or old or anything like that.

Hypothetically, if we found a 69 year old mega-autist who had never been exposed to Japanese, but had insane amounts of motivation to learn everything about Japanese grammar, phonetics, vocabulary, culture, etc., and were willing to become a hikiNEET for 2 years for the sake of AJATT, I believe he should be able to become just as good at speaking Japanese as Khatz, Matto, or anybody else.

Matt says that khatz wasn't as good as he thinks he was about 18 months in since matt needed an additional 2 years of ajatt to be able to read any topic with ease, I wonder if Khatzz maybe was the real deal and matt was just doing a light variant of ajatt.

Khatz is almost definitely lying, and at best is just so delusional he doesn't realize how much he's exaggerating. I think some of them are seemingly within the realm of possibility, for someone studying 16 hours a day at inhuman levels, but anyone with 18 months experience will know this is bullshit. 4500 kanji from memory is the real clincher, like come the fuck on.

With language learning you really have to be on constant guard about people lying about their abilities. Although it's harsh (and Quizmaster embodies how taken too far you can end up as an obnoxious asshole), you really shouldn't believe the claims of anyone who doesn't attach solid proof of said claims. Especially with time-based claims since you might end up comparing yourself to impossible achievements.

by sentence cards do you mean the sentence on the front? anime cards have the sentence on the back, if you are talking about cards with the sentence on the back without sentence audio they are context word cards
you can practically keep them all in the same deck is doesn't matter

Yeah, I've noticed when I tried subs2srs that when you don't use padding for the timings you sometimes end up with part of the line missing, and when you do use padding you often end up getting part of the previous or following line (or both) mixed in with the one you want.

I was actually considering trying to manually crop audio using frame-precise timecodes in ffmpeg, generating the card screenshot with mpv's built in screenshot feature, and auto-generating the card itself with a combination of nazeka+mpv's subserv plugin (sends subs to the browser), but I'll wait and see what method your site offers as an alternative.

Why the fuck would you re-encode (worsening quality via lossy-to-lossy compression) rather than just downloading H264 in the first place? That's what you should be telling people to do.

BTW, anyone releasing shit in H265 doesn't know what they're doing and you shouldn't be downloading their encodes in the first place.

>> No.21989730

sometimes jp subs are timed for a particular release and you know it'll be synced whereas it can be a crapshoot with other releases. i've never noticed the quality loss so i don't care if i have to re-encode but obviously if someone does care they can find a different release.

>> No.21989743

>>21989730
You can just adjust the timings with Aegisub by however many milliseconds you need and overwrite the sub file. Much quicker and all around better idea than re-encoding the video.

but it doesn't take long and you don't have to do anything. the process you're describing is fast but you have to do it for every subtitle which is annoying. but you run the script and bam no more worries. it doesn't take long for the first episode to convert and at that point it's smooth sailing because by the time you finish watching it the rest of the episodes will be converted. also you can convert ahead of time while you do something else. if the quality loss bothers you then don't do it.

Where do facts come from?
Sense experience. The only shit that's a priori is pure logical relations, like A = A, B =/= A. If something holds true in one case under an extremely specific set of variables, then it holds true. If it holds true with a very broad set of variables, then it holds true in all those cases. You aren't God. You can't guess how anything will turn out unless you've seen it.

It's possible for something to be true even in spite of it not being a priori.
But then, if we wanted to state true stuff about the fragments of the world as we see it, we'd have to rely on extremely long descriptions and boring descriptions, as follows:
"At the moment conventionally counted in our human society as part of one hour ago, I was putting my gaze towards that which would be recognized as my computer scene onto what I subjectively judge to be an erotic scene from a eroge of two girls fingering each other, which I found to be quite sexually stimulating."

We're talking about Japanese here, so use characters. The average Japanese novel ranges from 150,000 characters to 250,000 characters, as determined by ripping the raw text content from ebooks and scanning them. (Note: This isn't as big as Wareya's VN corpus, just some series I bought for myself.)

For the books on the lower end of that range, with a bit of speed at your foot, you can blast through them at 2-3 hours. Back in 2017 it was taking me 8 hours to finish a 200k book. A neet skilled in Japanese could very easily read 2 books a day with plenty of time to spare.

How about "context cards" or something?

If you haven't already, read something on basic grammar, e.g. Tae Kim, Sakubi, Japanese the Manga Way or whatever. You aren't really supposed to memorise it, rather get some basic understanding.

You can either start reading right away or learn some basic vocabulary first.

Start reading something you enjoy, learn more vocabulary and more grammar. I should warn you that you will read very slowly and it may take quite a bit of your energy, but if you persist, you will gradually get better.

My main motivation for writing is isn't for a million people to read but to have a definite retard proof guide on anime cards that I link knowing anyone is capable of making the exact same cards that I do. I can't really stress how great I think these cards are once you get the hang of reviewing them and that people who talk shit about them don't really understand them.
Same thing with most of the other points, those talking points keep popping up and why do we need to answer the same dumb questions over and over again. So when someone asks me 'But what is wrong with subs2srs' or 'but why shouldn't I do WaniKani'I just link them that page. Not sure if it'll save me time ultimately but I like the idea of having a place I can collect my thoughts on these topic and share conveniently. That said you are right about me putting off my kanken study for a bit. I still haven't checked when I can do the test (might even be in September next year) but I do know I still have a good amount of time during which I'll continue to learn words and my ability to write everything out using my kanken study method. Which if anyone wonders what it consists of I'll also talk about on the site.

>>21991919
I'm calling them audio cards because I don't want to tall them anime cards as people seem to get confused when I make cards out of things that are not anime. Context cards could also be cards without without the audio, that name doesn't really hit the nail on it's head.
Either way I explain exactly what I mean in the very first section so there isn't much to be confused by.
Yeah I suppose you are right about the second part. I may post a bit less about the site just because it's boring if I talk about it but nobody can see it yet. I'll see about getting it done a bit faster.
