Here in /jp/, we appreciate Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni as its base Visual Novel, and the anime to be treated as an adaption. Season 1 fails tremendously as such, while Season 2 is successful.

No. In season one, I literally facepalm through the first 2 episodes of nearly every chapter, and apart from onikakushi-hen, the adaption was miserable.
It also made me hate Satoko, fucking bitch with her A.T. Field.

Season two was much better. It was drama, so less action. The first chapter totally redeemed Satoko in my eyes. Menly tears etc. QUALITY logs and Scooby Doo ending didn't bother me.

I'm a Higurashi fan, and liked Kai, but I think this is a really dumb argument. It doesn't even make sense. Just because it was a faithful adaption doesn't absolve it of it's flaws.

It's not suspenseful? It wasn't trying to be. That'd be like criticizing a show for something it's not. Kai is a continuation but it has a completely different feel and theme than season one.

It failed as making you shit bricks? It wasn't supposed to. There weren't really any twists in Kai, just revelations. Takano being the villain for example is something you could've figured out long ago. The reveal is for the slowpokes who haven't.

The pace is too slow? It's actually normal. It only feels slow because season one was so ridiculously fast. If it hadn't been like that then you wouldn't think Kai was slow.

It wasn't creepy during the final arc? It wasn't supposed to be. Notice how the club members were having a good time when taking out the Yanimu? To them, it was just like another of their club activities. It was the same in Minagoroshi until Keiichi was shot then reality sank in and they realized they were fighting for their lives.

There is also no "sudden removal". There were several months between the seasons, and everyone who cares knew what was coming to them. You also had the first chapter of the second season so there's nothing to complain about.

If you consider what Kai doesn't have flaws then you can do the same for season one. It's pretty much a mindfuck with few answers. Especially the anime adaptation; Many important clues and scenes were cut in favor of focusing more on horror.

More proof fanservice ruins everything.

It's not like I found Higurashi to be the best thing sliced bread you guys are trying to make it sound so I don't really care anyway.

Watching Kai was like watching a different anime altogether. Meanwhile...the manga makes everything from start to finish exactly like the first season, so its quite superior.

I like the anime for what it was and I like the VN for what it was.

IMO the main problem of this series is the story, it goes from murder and thriller to friendship and happy moments, and when it was supposed to give us answers and unveil the mystery behind everything it just fails pretty hard at being compelling. So you just read it like "oh is that it? ok"

Umineko is MUCH better than Higurashi when it comes to writing and overall setting, but I hope Ryukishi07 won't screw it up again like he did with the latter.

It wasn't a necessary trade. You can have revelation along with twists, you can have suspense along with answers, and when all is said and done you can calm the atmosphere. A problem is that the last two answer arcs calmed at the point in the story where it should have been building to a climax.
