Canonically, she's alone because people dislike her ability.

Do you go with that, or do you see Satori in a different way?

You don't have to go against canon in this case.

I see Satori as a girl shunned by society because of who she is. The fact that she didn't close off her abilities like her sister means that she wasn't willing to let go of a part of herself to be accepted which shows she is both stronger emotionally, and wants to be accepted for who she is.

I imagine many who come here have similar ambitions.

I worded it sort of poorly. There's some people here that see her as a wild, "crazy cat lady" that cares little about how others see her ability, while others see her as a very lonely recluse that can only find comfort with her animals. Do you see her situation in a much darker value, or do you see it in a much more light-hearted manner?

I think she cares, or I doubt she would have sought out the company of animals (or kept them around her afterwards). I also don't think she's lonely since she has those around her that care for her, and besides, I did say I feel she just wants to be accepted for who she is. Her pets do this, so she's happy.

I actually see it being that the animals sought HER out, instead of the other way around. I personally get the impression that she could be all by herself for all she cares, just because of how she presents herself and talks. It might be a bit too quiet without anyone in the palace, but I see her as a nutcase anyways.

No, if she didn't want the animals around, she would have shunned them away. I guess you could suggest that she's indifferent about Rin and Utsuho, but then why is she apparently on good terms with them? Plus, if she really didn't care about being alone, why try to help her sister open up more? Just because she loves her? I think it's more likely that she also wants her sister to relate to herself who chose not to shut away her powers.

I didn't say that she didn't want the animals around. I'm just suggesting that I think she could do well by herself, and isn't under much emotional pressure from being shunned by society. Of course, she'll become acquainted with the pets eventually.

>Plus, if she really didn't care about being alone, why try to help her sister open up more? Just because she loves her?

I think that's only because she has her pets and Koishi. Otherwise, she would want to seek out at least someone to be with.

Notice that she's covering her third eye. The original text was probably "Do you like me?" or something, not wanting to peer into Anon's mind and see all the perverted things we want her to do.

I actually like seeing her as being on the extreme opposite side of the spectrum in comparison to Koishi. The in-game dialogue reflects their abilities and personality a bit, but really, the dialogue shows their different characters off rather weakly, so I exaggerate their personalities a great deal. Just a word of warning to those who stick heavily to canon stuff.

Whereas I see Koishi being much more subtle and subdued, I see Satori being far too direct and blunt. When they say that Koishi acts with her subconscious, I really want them to mean that. She should look and act as blank as a clean slate, but she should always end up being one step ahead of most everyone else.

Satori, on the other hand, is very much open with her emotions. I like to think of her as a judging sort, avoiding youkai and humans because they often lie or do hypocritical things for no reason at all, whereas animals need to deceive and trick their prey in order to survive. She often acts and thinks solely with her emotions, and acts on emotional impulse. I suppose you can say that she wears her heart on her sleeve. Hurr.

┐(´―`)┌

We've pretty much hit the block where our views of character are so different, we're pretty much just going to go back and forth nonsensically until the topic dies. It's pretty much clear that we both see her in a completely different light, and that it's sort of silly to say that one idea is right over the other.

I much prefer Satori as a sad character, seeing as she's pretty much the only one Gensokyo has.

People don't like her being around so she just mopes around in her mansion, being reserved, hanging out with her pets.

But is that even relevant to the topic or is it just your way of saying, "I've read SICP"?

>> No.2191853

I like seeing Satori as a brutally blunt person. She knows what people are thinking, and, kinda like Ms Cake in Discworld, she has the tendency to answer you before you even ask, which is very offputting to people. Basically, to a being whose whole species can read minds... secrecy, plotting, dancing around issues are things that probably seem completely useless - most likely she has never even learned them.

That said, she's a very good person. Excessive empathy tends to make you willing to help others. But her help can take some really strange shapes, as she goes with what she knows what will help you, not what you want to hear.

All these things are what made her shunned. After all, people do *not*, in fact, want someone to tell them what they need.

So I like writing her as a girl that has come to terms with herself, and isn't really sad, but still wonders about people at times (also, as a very smart woman who tends to be three steps over most everybody, but being able to hear people's thoughts will do that)
